It will be held over the course of 3 days (July 24, July31, August 1) and include pre-recorded ondemand webinars.ABIM Certification Exam Date:October 21, 2020This activity will use concise didactic presentations by nationalexperts, case studies, and panel discussions. An audience responsesystem (ARS) will be utilized throughout all presentations andto deliver ABIM style questions in designated session time.Additional question and answer periods with faculty will enablingattendees to drive the discussion of according to their mostpressing clinical challenges. Advanced Heart Failure & Transplant CardiologyHFSA Virtual Board Certification Review 2020HEADERSABIMCERTIFICATION DEADLINESCOMPETENCIESHEADERSLEARNING OBJECTIVESThis HFSA Virtual Board Certification Review 2020 has beendesigned based on the competencies identified with practice inthe area of Advanced Heart Failure and Transplant Cardiology.Upon completion of the activity, participants will demonstrateimproved competence and ability to:These competencies include epidemiology, causes andmanagement of patients with HF, management of hospitalizedpatients, management of comorbidities, cardiac surgery inHF, medical management of the heart transplant patient andpatients with mechanical circulatory support, and evaluationand management of patients with pulmonary arterial hypertension.CREDIT DESIGNATIONThis HFSA Virtual Board Certification Review has been designed based on the competencies identified with practice in thearea of Advanced Heart Failure and Transplant Cardiology.These competencies include epidemiology, causes and management of patients with HF, management of hospitalized patients,management of comorbidities, cardiac surgery in HF, medicalmanagement of the heart transplant patient and patients withmechanical circulatory support, and evaluation and managementof patients with pulmonary arterial hypertension.PhysiciansThe Heart Failure Society of America is accredited by theAccreditation Council for Continuing Medical Education toprovide continuing medical education for physicians.For the Certification Examination in Advanced HeartFailure and Transplant Cardiology:1. Identify gaps in knowledge about advanced heart failureand transplant cardiology2. Focus study efforts on filling identified knowledge gaps3. Practice for the certification examination with ABIM-stylemultiple-choice test questionsFor Clinical Practice:1. Describe the epidemiology of heart failure, includingenvironmental factors, and implement strategies for theprevention of heart failure2. Describe the pathophysiology of heart failure, includingnormal physiology and compensatory and maladaptivemechanisms3. Assess and follow the patient with acute or advancedheart failure, using non-invasive and invasive tests andbiomarkers.4. Implement guideline-based therapy for patients withchronic heart failure, including pharmacologic agents;non-pharmacologic options, such as diet and exercise;and implantable devices5. Implement appropriate care strategies for patientsundergoing chemotherapy or with pulmonary hypertension,heart failure with preserved ejection fraction, or cardiorenalsyndrome.The Heart Failure Society of America designates this liveactivity for a maximum of 17 AMA PRA Category 1 Credits. Physicians should claim only the credit commensurate withthe extent of their participation in the activity.6. Manage comorbidities in patients with chronic heartfailure, including sleep disordered breathing, anemia,and depressionSuccessful completion of this CME activity, which includesparticipation in the evaluation component, enables theparticipant to earn up to 17 MOC points in the Maintenance ofCertification (MOC) program. It is the CME activity provider’sresponsibility to submit participant completion information toACCME for the purpose of granting ABIM MOC credit.7. Implement strategies for effective disease managementof the patient with advanced heart failure, includingpalliative care and transition to outpatient care8.
