Butthese are not always words we use to describe the role of money in our lives. In the classic film, “It’sa Wonderful Life,” a crisis of money creates vastly diverse reactions from several characters that canhold up a mirror to our own relationships with money. In this four week series, we will “look”squarely in the face of our money issues in compassionate ways that can offer more depth of meaning, healing, and wholeness and a whole new “outlook” on what constitutes a wonder-full life.October 6Looking with GratitudeWorld Communion SundayBev Anderson, preachingOctober 20 Stewardship SundayHealing Prayer Service in worshipRev. A NOTE FROM THE COUNCILWe in the Church Council want to keepeveryone of Grace Church’s family up to dateregarding events ongoing in our church. Wecontinue to be very busy and are fully engaged onseveral fronts.First, the Council’s diaconate members haveformed a sub-committee called the Committeeon Pastoral Leadership. Its members are Ruthand Richard Westfall, Diane Chartrand, BarbaraKirk-Elkin, and David and Carolyn Hazen. Theircharge is to discuss and identify pulpit ministersfor the time being and to name an interimminister search committee. It is commonpractice that, in order to find a good fit interim,we as a church collectively go through a processof discerning what it is we are looking for.Secondly, it is important to engage as manypeople as possible in honest open dialogue aboutwhere we are and where we are headed as achurch. To that end, a small group gathered tobegin this process on September 16th. Thediscussion was honest and heart felt. The groupfelt that we are just beginning this process andare planning to include as many church membersas possible, including getting help from theVermont Conference. All action options are onthe table with many ideas shared. Finally, a personal note. I am optimistic that wecan see our way to a future where Grace Churchwill continue to be a place of love andunderstanding, recognizing that humans will behuman, but like families that deal with differentpoints of view, we can remain in a lovingcollection of folks who commonly believe in Godand His teachings and in Jesus His loving son.Greg Ellis,Council ChairNEWS FROM THE CONFERENCESouthwest Association Fall MeetingOctober 13, 2:00 — 5:00 PMSecond Congregational Church of Bennington“All ministers with standing in the SouthwestAssociation and four delegates from eachmember church are hereby warned and all otherinterested persons are invited, to be present onSunday, October 13, 2019 at the Fall Meetingof the Southwest Association within the VermontConference. Bob BoutwellGrace Church offers the powerful Healing Ministry of Jesus Christ with the Rev.Bob Boutwell. We have a Healing Prayer Service on the second Sunday of eachmonth in the Chapel at 11:25 AM following the regular worship service. At thisservice persons who need prayer are invited to come forward to receive the layingon of hands, healing prayers, and the anointing with oil by the pastor and deacons ofthe church. This is a sacramental-like ordinance by which people are offeredblessings, cleansing of the soul, forgiveness of sins and healing of physical, mental, spiritual, andrelational ailments. At these services, we have been blessed to receive many miracles of healing inanswer to our prayers. In Genesis 1: 26, God said, "Let us make humankind in our image, according to our likeness." In1:27,"Male and female he created them.” In 2:24, "Therefore a man leaves his father and his mother andclings to his wife and they become one flesh." Together in marriage the husband and wife are blessedwith children to form a family. In an article in Spirituality and Health magazine, Paul Sutherland writesabout how important the husband /father is for the spiritual health of the children. Children needfathers. According to the American Psychological Association, the absence of a father can result inchildren who are bullies, who lack social skills, get lower grades in school, and have lower self esteem. This in turn often results in drug abuse, alcoholism, jail, and divorce for the father-deprived child.Dads express love, interact with the children, and play differently than mothers do. Boys and girlsneed both their mothers and fathers. Both styles of parenting make for a healthy balance. Throughhealing prayer Jesus can repair a broken relationship and the Holy Spirit can restore the health of asick marriage and repair an incomplete family. In October, the Healing Prayer Service will take place not after worship on the second Sundaybut during worship at the 10 a.m. Sanctuary service on October 20. Members of thecongregation will be urged to come forward to receive healing prayers by Rev. Boutwell and deacons. The Rev. Boutwell is also in his office at the church every Wednesday between 9 and 11:30 AM forChristian Healing Prayers and consultations. No appointment is necessary. You may contact him bytelephone at 773.3057, by email at revrbtwl@myfairpoint.net, or at bob@gracechurchvt.org.Support in Your Time of NeedDuring this period of pastoral transition at Grace Church, the Visitation Ministrywants you to know that you will not be forgotten!
