TheArchives websiteis now up andrunning. Representing one yearof preparationand over 500items uploaded,the website willaid patronsthroughout theworld. Legacy Museum NewsThe SGA had its Opening Mixer at theLegacy Museum. Approximately 150200 students attended this event whichincorporated fun, food and planning forthe year.The ladies of the Beta Xi Omega GraduateChapter (Tuskegee, Alabama) of AlphaKappa Alpha Sorority, Incorporated (AKA)visited the Legacy Museum on September10, 2010. The following is a list of thethings that you should know before usingthe ILL service. You must have a valid Tuskegee University identification card. You must print out an ILL form fromwww.tuskegee.edu/libraries, and complete it. Books, dissertations, journalarticles, archival materials, and newspaper articles can be requested. A total of ten items may be requestedat one time - it can be 10 books or tenarticles or a combination of books andarticles as long as they do not exceedten in total.Before we place a request externally,we check our own resources to ascertain that the material is unavailable inour own libraries.Delivery time depends on who is supplying the material - within the state, 3- 7 days; from outside the state, 7 - 10days. Employee Spotlight: Mrs. Frances Davis, Engineering LibrarianMrs. FrancesDavis is anative ofTuskegee,Alabama. Shestarted working with theTuskegeeUniversityLibraries in1954. Mrs.Davis startedat the MainLibrary,known today as the Ford Motor CompanyLibrary, when the libraries were just developing. She has also worked at the NursingLibrary (now closed) and the VeterinaryLibrary (now the Veterinary Medical Library).Mrs. Davis has had many accomplishmentsduring her career. She was among the firstblack librarians from Tuskegee University tobe allowed membership in the Alabama Library Association. She went on to serve aspresident of the Special Libraries Associationof the Alabama Library Association in 1974.Mrs. Davis plans to retire in December.When asked what are some of her mostmemorable moments at Tuskegee, she said,“When the students were striking about thecafeteria food and they locked the trusteesin Dorothy Hall (which is the Kellogg Centertoday).” She says that she will miss the students the most. She has seen some students go on to graduate and then send theirchildren and then their children’s children tothe University. That is why she says thatshe feels like a grandmother and a great-grandmother to the students.Mrs. Davis hopes that Tuskegee’s future willcontinue to do well and make progress withthe new president. She believes that Tuskegee is on the right path.The Engineering Library is designed to servethe research needs of the students and facultyof the College of Engineering and PhysicalSciences. It is located in Luther Hilton FosterHall, and has approximately 11,000 books,3,500 bound periodicals, and subscribes toover 200 journals in Engineering and relatedareas.-Alicia PichonGovernment Documents Assistantpichona@tuskegee.eduStudents in ActionIn an effort to keep the Legacy Museumavailable to visitors and guests, Dr. Jontyle Robinson, curator, has recruitedmany student volunteers. The LegacyMuseum now has over 30 volunteers,ranging from all 5 colleges on the Tuskegee University campus.
