L I G HT S , CA M E RA .Hello and welcome to The Florida Film Institute’s Annual CINEMA Screening & AwardsPremiere Event!I sincerely hope that everyone has remained safe this past year while navigating through anunbelievable global pandemic! Clearly, it has been a challenging time for many and I amoptimistic that the light at the end of the tunnel is slowly beginning to shine. And speaking of shine, our CINEMA students are some of the brightest in Miami-Dade County – they are true stars inthe making! Even though this school year has been quite full of high pressure (yet exhilaratingmoments too!), these high school teens stayed mindful and are full of spirit, drive and endlesstalent! Their efforts shown during an unusual (and unexpected) kind of year will be applauded foryears to come! While all of our CINEMA sites have remained online since the beginning of the school year, you would never know that these students have not collaborated in a classroom together. They have proven the known truth that there is no “I” in TEAM. These exceptional students havebeen given the tools to think outside of the norm and work inventively within an online productionteam as well as completely solo. Becoming mobile creators and learning the art of filmmaking hasbeen eye-opening for the student crews. This kind of progressive filmmaking has demonstratedthat young and fresh filmmakers are readily able to produce at home with only a computer andsmartphone the new technology has been fascinating to explore! Now in its 6th year of production, the after-school CINEMA program has been an astonishingexperience for my staff. FFI teaches the art of filmmaking to participants who have the focusand heart to excel at the craft. With that being said, I am deeply honored and beyond delighted to present the diverse projects that have been developed by our remarkable studentsover the past 9 months of perpetual production. And today, we are finally ready to premierethe 11 Haiku Poems, 6 Short Films and 9 Narrative Films. Overall, the CINEMA studentsproduced over 50 film projects this year – WOW!FFI is already in pre-production for the 2021-2022 CINEMA program and as we head into our29th year of production, I would like to express my deepest thanks to FFI’s Board & Staff, ourloyal sponsors, and the community for their ongoing support. We are always working in a teamdynamic to establish prospects for students across Miami-Dade County and we plan to continueour recognition of young filmmakers well into the future and beyond. CINEMA truly is a visual andeducational adventure for all to experience!flfilminstitute.orgCongratulations to all of the CINEMA Participants and Lead Teachers. It is now time to celebratetogether and engage in a cinematic experience that showcases the talent of our phenomenalfilmmakers & actors. So please sit back, relax and enjoy the show!Stephanie G.
