CANCER – THE FORBIDDEN CURESA 2010 film by Italian film director Massimo MazzuccoOverview:This film discusses how certain wealthy people took control of American medicine in theearly 1900’s and created a medical establishment based on allopathic medicine (a.k.a.conventional medicine) which acted to unethically shut down alternative or natural medicine(a.k.a. homeopathic medicine).The film then goes on to discuss numerous specific, alternative, nature based cures forcancer and how each of them has been shut down by the medical establishment.Below is a somewhat detailed summary of the contents of the film:The first portion of the film,about the medical establishment and its control over the medical industry:About conventional cancer treatment(starting from the beginning of the film)Using conventional cancer treatments a cancer patient has a one in three chance of livingfor five years after being diagnosed. That statistic has stayed about the same since the 1950’s.So conventional cancer treatments have not improved significantly since that time. The film alsoexplains that the cancer industry has a large incentive to not cure cancer because there areenormous sums of money to be made off of cancer patients.Conventional treatment for cancer only offers three therapies: surgery, chemotherapy andradiotherapy. And all of those three methods of cure have problems. Surgery can only be usedon localized cancer, a minority of the cases. Radiation can itself cause cancer and has otherserious side effects. Chemotherapy has serious side effects, including memory loss and othercognitive impairments; and many chemotherapy drugs are carcinogenic (i.e., they cause cancer).One study (by John Cairns of Harvard University and published in Scientific American) cited inthe film shows that only 1 out of 20 cancer patients are helped by chemotherapy drugs. Andthese three flawed treatments are the only types of treatment that conventional medicine – themedical establishment – has authorized in the last 100 years.The war on alternative, natural medicine and on the doctors who promote it(starting at counter # 11:25):The film explains that in the 1800’s there were two types of medicine being practiced (inthe US and/or in Europe): allopathic medicine (conventional medicine, in which the doctor is tasked withdriving the disease from the body based on science), and homeopathic medicine (natural medicine, in which the body is stimulated to healitself with non-toxic substances).Then in the early 1900’s the fortunes of the Rockefeller, J.P. Morgan and Carnegiefamilies began funding allopathic medicine, as there were some very profitable allopathicmedicine cures which could be invested in. They first took over the universities. They offeredlarge amounts of money in exchange for allowing one or more of their agents to sit on the boardsof directors of those universities. So all the great universities were then skewed towardspromoting and teaching about pharmaceutical drugs as cures for medical problems. Homeopathic1

medicine was not similarly promoted. So from then on all the doctors have been trained topromote pharmaceutical drugs as medicine.The pharmaceutical drug companies together are known as “big pharma.”Big pharma also took over the drug testing process. Before 1980 most medical researchwas being funded by the National Institute of Health and much of the money was sent touniversities. In the 1990’s most of that money was pulled from universities and redirected to forprofit research organizations. That gave almost complete control over medical research to thedrug companies.A summary of how big pharma and allopathic medicine took our medical system (startingat counter # 19:01): First big pharma (or the financial interests behind them) took over theuniversities. Then it gave the American Medical Association the power to exclude all othertypes of doctors (besides allopathic doctors) from practicing. Then it took over the entire drugtesting process. Big pharma also began heavily influencing the medical publications thatreviewed those drugs. And then big pharma extended its control to cover the FDA.The FDA will never approve natural treatments for cancer(starting at counter # 21:40)An important fact to understand is that due to the way in which the system is set up theFDA will never approve a natural cure for cancer. This is because it takes about 20,000,000 toget FDA approval of a drug and the big pharma companies will never spend that kind of moneyto get approval of a natural remedy because they won’t make any money on it. Now that almostall medical research is in the hands of big pharma there is no one else who could do the researchto get FDA approval for natural remedies. So all natural remedies will automatically be rejectedby the FDA and condemned by them as “unproven.”The second portion of the film (Cancer – The Forbidden Cures),a discussion of a list of natural cures for cancer and explanations ofhow in each case the medical establishment fought to shut it down:Rene Caisse and Essiac (22:38): In 1922 in a small town in northern Ontario, CanadaRene Caisse, a nurse, discovered a cure for cancer. That happened as follows: Rene was treatinga patient who had a scar on her breast. The patient told Rene that it was leftover from a cancershe had cured over 30 years earlier using a mixture of herbs suggested by the medicine man ofthe local Ojibwe American Indian tribe. Rene Caisse tried the mixture on some cancer patientsand they were healed. She named the mixture Essiac (her last name spelled backwards).She eventually had a clinic in which she successfully treated thousands of patients. Thepowers that be said that she could only use her treatment if she offered it for free and if she firsthad a doctor’s diagnosis for each patient showing what disease they had. She proceeded to treatmany people under those conditions.But then the medical establishment stepped in further to stop her. First a mysteriousgroup of entrepreneurs showed up and offered Rene 1,000,000 for the secret formula of Essiac.She refused because they would not guarantee that it would remain available for free to anyonewho wanted it. Various attempts were made to get Essiac approved by the FDA but each ofthese efforts came to naught for one reason or another. Eventually the powers that be preventeddoctors from diagnosing patients which were to be sent to her. And at that point she had anervous breakdown relating to that and she finally closed her clinic.2

After she recovered from her breakdown she continued to treat people from her home.The authorities harassed her and arrested her more than once.In about 1977 many of her patients who she had cured from cancer came to Bracebridge,Ontario to a gathering to meet with her and celebrate her 90th birthday with her. She continuedto treat patients from her home until her death in 1978.Harry Hoxsey (35:12): Harry Hoxsey was a very wealthy man from Texas. He treatedand cured thousands of cancer patients in his clinics in the 1930’s, 1940’s and 1950’s. Histreatment included a herbal formula.According to the Hoxsey legend, the remedy was discovered by John Hoxsey, HarryHoxsey’s great grandfather. John Hoxsey was a veterinarian who discovered this herbal formulawhile experimenting with treatment for his sick horse.The medical establishment waged a war against Harry Hoxsey. But Harry Hoxsey waswealthy and willing to fight. Thus, what ensued was the largest fight between a citizen and themedical authorities in the history of the United States. He was slandered by the medicalestablishment and labeled a “quack.” But he had many supporters, including U.S. Senators,judges and even some doctors. He was arrested more times than any other man in medicalhistory (more than 100 times). He was compelled to fight in the courts and two federal courtsupheld the medical value of his treatment.At one point Hoxsey made a successful demonstration for the American MedicalAssociation (“AMA”) doctors. A day later a high official from that organization offered to buythe rights to Hoxsey’s treatment. The deal would have given the rights to a group of doctorsassociated with the AMA. Hoxsey refused because he could not get a guarantee that thetreatment would be made available for free to anyone who ever needed it.A battle raged on for 25 years in the media. Dr. Fishbein was an influential person at theAMA and he controlled certain medical publications and he had influence in the media. At onepoint Hoxsey sued Dr. Fishbein for slander and he won in court, forcing Dr. Fishbein to resignfrom his post at the AMA.Hoxsey repeatedly asked the medical establishment to come and investigate his treatmentat his clinics but they never came.Eventually, although the government could not prove that Hoxsey’s treatment wasineffective, they proceeded to outlaw it based on technicalities, such as improper labeling.Hoxsey had 17 clinics across the country at one point. But the FDA stepped in and padlockedthem all in one day. He did not have the money to fight all these battles in all these differentstates.Thus, after 25 years of fighting he finally gave up his fight against the medicalestablishment. He went to Mexico and set up a new clinic there which is still treating patients.The treatment is not available in the U.S.Max Gerson (48:53): Dr. Gerson, of Germany, was the first to suggest that good healthdepends upon good nutrition. The Gerson treatment aims to achieve a complete detoxification ofthe body through a series of intestinal washes based on organic coffee and a strict diet of rawvegetables and fruits. Meat is absolutely to be avoided. Once detoxified the body can heal itselffrom diseases, including cancer. Dr. Gerson fled Germany during the WWII period and thenthroughout the 1940’s he had a successful clinic in New York which cured many cancer patients.He had great support from many people.3
