MYFAITHMAGAZINEFromTheEditorWALDO MALANThe time is here - the final three months of theyear, and for all intents and purposes, the mostimportant being the final month. I have always foundit quite appropriate that we are able to end our yearwith a celebration of God. Debates and argumentsaside of whether or not Jesus was actually born onthe 25th of December, I still believe in the value ofChristmas.the hands of God. Amazingly God chose to useus for His glory, to spread good news throughoutthe world through our mouths, and to touch thebroken-hearted through our hands! We are Hisfeet, hands, touch, grace and love to all peoplearound us. Handing out gifts at Christmas is simplyan extension of this. We surround ourselves withall kinds of decorations (including fake pine trees),good food, and intimate family times filled withlaughter and joy. Not only do these express ourjoy at life, but it also celebrates the joy of God.I understand that the value I place onChristmas is totally different from, forinstance, a storeowner or toy manufacturer! The value of Christmas doesn't lie in the date, but rather in what that date represents. We cancelebrate the goodness of God and greet oneanother with a heartfelt "Merry Christmas!" Thisis the time where we remember the sacrificialand unconditional love of a Father sendingHis Son to earth, and a time when we can joinangel choirs proclaiming peace has come.Christmas is not about us, but it is about Christ. The'merry' in our greeting is not about a drunken party, but it is about the joy of the Lord that is our strength! So, may I wish you and your family a blessed andmerry Christmas, as you celebrate the goodnessof God. May you come to see this Christmas, and all the Christmases yet to come, that you areimportant to God, and that you have a significantpart to play in His purpose for this earth. May youbecome the love, joy and peace to a world that isdesperately seeking salvation. May you experienceHis joy, not only this December, but for the yearsahead! There are many people who refuse to hand outpresents, have a Christmas tree or do anythingthey consider is a commercialization of Christ'sbirth. In our home we choose to give presentsto one another, not because it is "the thing todo" but because we consider ourselves to be4

MYFAITHMAGAZINEObedienceANDRÉ & JENNY ROEBERTJames tells us that we often ask and have not, because we ask amiss. That means there isboth a correct and appropriate way to exercise ourfaith when we pray and bring our needs before theLord, as well as an incorrect or inappropriate way.In our earlier discoveries concerning faith, we’veseen some of the things that could very well causeour prayers to be fruitless, and prevent our faithfrom working and appropriating what the Wordsays is ours to have and enjoy. We believe the problem lies with us notunderstanding certain principles in His Word thatactivate our faith instead of crippling or makingit ineffective. There are two important truths weshould pay attention to before we come to theLord in prayer - the first one being obedience! The Bible teaches that even if we do have faith, and speak God’s words over our situations, if weare not obeying God’s voice, whether it be Hisspontaneous, rhema Word in our spirits, or Hiswritten Word, we won’t receive what we ask for.If you’ve been asking and believing the Lord for abreakthrough in your life, but feel as though yourprayers have fallen short of reaching heaven, weare here to encourage you, and perhaps answerwhy your faith just doesn’t seem to be working. In John 14 and 15, Jesus clearly says we mustbe vitally connected to Him, to the point whereHis Word must be alive in our hearts and we mustobey it, if we want to see what we ask for. A living, intimate relationship with Jesus certainly involvesobedience to His Word. If we aren’t doing this, Hesays we have no right to expect anything from Him.Two factors that could be neutralising your faithand making it inactive are doubt and an incorrectperspective of God and His Word. Since we’veestablished that God desires to see us blessedand walking in the fullness of all His promises; wemust conclude that the problem with our faith notworking doesn’t lie with Him.We are so quick to say we love the Lord andprofess Him to be on the throne of our hearts, butJesus makes no qualms about what His opinion ofthat statement really means.6

MYFAITHMAGAZINEIn John 15:7 Jesus says, “If you live in Me [abidevitally united to Me] and My words remain inyou and continue to live in your hearts, askwhatever you will, and it shall be done for you.”His Word must bealive in our heartsThere it is, loud and clear - loving God is far morethan lip service, it’s a daily decision to invest in aliving relationship with Jesus, through His indwellingHoly Spirit, where His Word and ways becomeour own. When they do, we are guaranteed thatwhatever we ask, will be done for us - it’s thatsimple.John 14:21, 23 “The person who has Mycommands and keeps them is the one who[really] loves Me; and whoever [really] loves Mewill be loved by My Father, and I [too] will lovehim and will show (reveal, manifest) Myself tohim. [I will let Myself be clearly seen by him andmake Myself real to him.] . If a person [really]loves Me, he will keep My word [obey Myteaching]; and My Father will love him, and Wewill come to him and make Our home (abode, special dwelling place) with him.”7

MYFAITHMAGAZINETake YourStand andConquer YourEnemyJOYCE MEYERAs children of God, we have power and authorityover the devil. And we are to use that powerand authority for good and for service to others. That almost sounds like something you could sayabout a superhero, doesn’t it?No matter whether we view ourselves like soldiersor superheroes or whatever, our warfare is spiritual. And our weapons and armor are also spiritual. It reminds me of a letter I once received from awoman, telling me about her four-year-old son andhis cousins playing together one day. They wereall pretending to be superheroes. One of themexclaimed, “I’m Superman!” Another said, “I’mSuperwoman!” And this lady said her son proudlywielded his imaginary sword and proclaimed, “I’mJoyce Meyer!”In this spiritual war, we fight on the battlefield of themind. Every day we are subjected to unrelentingattacks in our thoughts, such as worry, fear, doubtand other concerns. The devil is behind many ofour problems, and some we create ourselves.Doing Warfare God’s WayBut Ephesians 6:11 tells us to “put on the fullarmor of God, so that [we] can take [our]stand against the devil’s schemes” (NIV). Ourthoughts are very important in this warfare whatwe think of ourselves as well as what we think ofothers or of our circumstances. The reason is that“our struggle is not against flesh and blood, but against the rulers, against the authorities, against the powers of this dark world andagainst the spiritual forces of evil in theheavenly realms” (v. 12).What a compliment to the Christ in me! That childsaw something in me that he thought was “super”and wanted to imitate! What he saw is simply aresult of the work God has done in my life throughHis Holy Spirit. And isn’t it interesting that while theother kids’ superhero gear included a cape, hislittle weapon was a sword! (See Ephesians 6:17.)We are often referred to as soldiers in the Wordof God. Soldiers are well trained in combat; theycarry all kinds of offensive, as well as defensiveequipment, and are taught to be vigilant, alert, andaware. So, while the devil may have power, we have thepower and authority of Jesus Christ at work in usby His Holy Spirit. Our job is to get to know God forourselves - get to know who we are in Him and the8

MYFAITHMAGAZINEpower that is available to us through Him. We needto learn how to follow the Holy Spirit, because Hewants to lead us in our individual battles accordingto what is right for each of us. The truth is God ison our side, and that already makes us more thanconquerors in Him! (See Romans 8:31, 37.)God will do what you can’t. Don’t be so concernedabout how everything will work out; just trust Godto do what’s right for you!For more on this topic, order Joyce’s four-teaching CDseries Overcome the Enemy with God’s Truth. You canalso contact us to receive our free magazine, EnjoyingEveryday Life, by calling (800) 727-9673 or visiting www.joycemeyer.org.What to Wear to BattleIn this war, there’s both offensive and defensiveequipment. With our weapons we fight the enemy. And we are protected from him by our armor. Bothare vitally important to our success.Joyce Meyer is a New York Times bestselling author andfounder of Joyce Meyer Ministries, Inc. Bear witheach other and forgive one another if any of youhas a grievance against someone. Forgive asthe Lord forgave you. And over all these virtuesput on love, which binds them all together inperfect unity.”Please note: The views and opinions expressedthroughout this publication and/or website are thoseof the respective authors and do not necessarily reflectthose of Joyce Meyer Ministries. These verses reveal the weapons and armor of ourspiritual warfare. We defeat the enemy’s tacticsevery time we forgive instead of hold a grudge every time we have patience with someone ratherthan rush them every time we speak with humilityrather than arrogance.Ephesians 4:25 says to “put off falsehood andspeak truthfully to your neighbor .” Verse 31goes on to say, “Get rid of all bitterness, rageand anger, brawling and slander, along withevery form of malice.” These are things that willhinder and weigh us down in life - and certainly aspiritual battle. The Battle PlanTo win our battles, we have to learn to cooperatewith the Holy Spirit as He leads us, accordingto His purpose and plan for our lives. Practicallyspeaking, we do this as we commit to seekingGod in prayer and by studying His Word, and thenchoosing to trust what He says above and beyondanything else. That means we believe the Truth ofwho God is and His promises to us in the Bible nomatter what our circumstances look like, what wefeel, or what lies the enemy is trying to put in ourmind. So, tighten up your belt of Truth (Ephesians 6:14).In other words, learn the truth of God’s Word, especially what His Word says about you. Thendo what you know to do what you can do and9

MYFAITHMAGAZINEBe SpecificANGUS BUCHANWhen we look at the Word of God in Habakkuk2:2-3 (NKJV), it says: “Write the vision andmake it plain on tablets, that he may run whoreads it. For the vision is yet for an appointedtime; but at the end it will speak, and it will notlie. Though it tarries, wait for it; because it willsurely come, it will not tarry.”be steadfast; we need to keep our eyes fixed onthe Lord Jesus Christ, and He will direct us rightthrough this very awkward time where many seemto not know what is going on or where they aregoing. Even international leaders of nations they have no idea; they change their attitude andtheir ideas daily. It can be very disheartening; andit can cause a lot of unnecessary fear, stress andheartache - especially if you do not stick to yourgame plan.I really do believe that in this time of lockdown, when a pandemic seems to be running rampant,we really need to keep the vision. We need to bespecific and we need to really seek the Lord for Hisabsolute plan for our lives. This is not a time to belike the waves of the sea as we see in the Book ofJames, being tossed to and fro (James 1:6). Weneed to keep the course; because if we don’t wewill surely flounder, and we will eventually sink.Write the visionand make it plainIt’s like sitting on the top of a hill, watching a manwith a chainsaw cutting trees down in the forest, but he is cutting around in circles. When he looksat the one sitting on top of the hill, that man seesclearly and can be directed in the path that hemust follow. In our lives, the one sitting on top ofthe hill is Jesus Christ, and the man cutting withthe chainsaw is you and me. If we do not followthe explicit instruction of the Lord, we will fail. Thatis what scripture teaches us in Proverbs 29:18,when it says, “Where there is no revelation, thepeople cast off restraint” (NKJV).Remember what Smith Wigglesworth said, “Godsaid it; I believe it; and that settles it!” That isexactly how we need to conduct ourselves at thistime and the Lord will see us right through to theother side.Do not worry, do not stress. Have good quiettimes; get up early in the morning; spend lots oftime with your family; and just do what you havebeen doing in the past. There is no need for you totry and reinvent the wheel at this stage in your life.We really need to keep ourselves disciplined. We need to “cross the t’s and dot the i’s” andcarry on, taking one day at a time. That is howyou get through any crisis situation. We need to10

MYFAITHMAGAZINE7 Steps ToBecome AGodmotherLISA BEVEREGodmothers. Pause for a moment and considerwhat comes to mind when you think of one.Perhaps you immediately thought of fairies ormobsters.but did you consider the fact that youcould be one? Godmothers are not a new idea, but I believe it’s time they become a renewed one.faith, relationships, careers, marriages, and evenparenting were designed to be filled by each other.Godmothers help us fill in the gaps. So, before we delve into what’s involved inbecoming a godmother, there are a few thingsI want to make clear. First, godmothers aren’tperfect. It doesn’t matter how messy your life is- there is something in it that others need. Lovelyone, just begin with where you are! And the lastpoint I want to make before moving on is that youdon’t have to know everything to offer something. There’s more in you to offer others than you realize. The role of godparents originated in the firstcentury church when persecution raged, andbelievers were scattered abroad. It was a timewhen churches met in homes and community andconnection mattered more than programs andperformances. It was a time when life happenedaround a table and individuals were woven intoa beautiful tapestry of love and interdependencewith one another. With that being said, let’s explore 7 ways you canbegin to engage as a godmother. One of the beauties of godparents was that theywanted more for their godchildren than they hadexperienced themselves. They were way makers, creating pathways for successive generations tofollow. And as they journeyed together, sharingstories of both triumph and trial, both generationsgrew in faith and strength.1.
