1. INTRODUCTIONxWelcome to the final year of your primary schooleducation journey. This is a milestone year whereyou will be sitting for the Primary School LeavingExamination (PSLE).xThis booklet contains instructions and regulationsfor the PSLE. Please read carefully and complywith them.xYou may use the checklist in Annex D as a guideon what to take note of and bring for the PSLE.xWe strongly recommend that you share theinformation in this booklet with your parents /guardians.xIf you are sitting for the Non-Tamil Indian Language(NTIL) examinations, you will be given a set of“Instructions for Candidates on the NTILExaminations”, in addition to this booklet. Pleaseapproach your teacher / school for the set ofinstructions on NTIL Examinations if you did notreceive it.xFor details on the examination syllabuses, you canvisit SEAB’s website at https://www.seab.gov.sgxIf you have any queries, please approach yourteacher for clarification.xWe wish you all the best for your PSLE.1

2. SITTING FOR EXAMINATIONSxIt is compulsory for you to sit for all of yourregistered examinations, including all componentpapers.xIf you are a Singapore Citizen as of 24 March 2021,you will be given a full waiver of the examinationfees.xYou will not be entitled to a waiver of theexamination fees if you are granted Singaporecitizenship after 24 March 2021.xThe examination timetable can be found inAnnex A.xWith the evolving COVID-19 situation, candidatesmust also observe and comply with any additionalinstructions and safe management measures thatSEAB may announce nearer to the examinationdates. Candidates will be informed of any updatesof instructions and procedures through theirschools.2

2.11 Points to note in the ExaminationFOR ALL PAPERSShading of answers to Multiple Choice QuestionsxYou should use a 2B pencil to shade youranswers on the Optical Answer Sheet (OAS).Shade the oval completely and firmly. Not doingso may result in unclear answers.xDo not write the answers in the question booklet asthey will not be marked.xYou can use a soft eraser if you wish to changeyour answers. Erase the shaded oval completelybefore shading the new oval.xYou should not crumple, fold, tear, wet, damage theOAS or make any unnecessary marks on any partof the form, other than shading the oval for thequestions.Questions that require you to provide your answers onthe answer booklet:xYou should write your answers clearly in blue /black ballpoint pen with 0.5mm tip size. If youneed to change your answers, cross them out andre-write the answers. Candidates should not writethe answers in pencil as the responses mayappeared too faint for marking.3

xDo not use correction fluid / tape in theexaminations as it may affect the legibility of theanswers. There are instances where candidatesdid not complete their answers after the correctionfluid / tape had been applied. Correction fluid / tapemay also damage the answer scripts (e.g. coveringother parts of the answers or the pages may sticktogether).xYou should not use highlighter to highlight anypart of your answerss as this may also affectlegibility of the answers.s.xThe duration of each examination paper includesthe time for reading the questions, writing and/orshading your answers.ORAL EXAMINATIONxThe Oral examinations for English Language (EL) /Foundation EL and Mother Tongue Language(MTL) / Foundation MTL will be held on twoseparate days.xYour school will inform you of your reporting timeand the examination that you will be sitting for, priorto the two days of your Oral examination.xDo not bring any reading materials or notes to theexamination rooms, including silent preparationstation.4

LISTENING COMPREHENSIONEXAMINATIONxThe Listening Comprehension (LC) examinationconsists of multiple-choice questions (MCQs).xYou should shade the appropriate oval on theOptical Answer Sheet (OAS) for your answer toeach question.xYou must complete the shading of answers withinthe duration of the LC examination. No extra timewill be given at the end of the broadcast to shadethe answers.xIf you are not able to hear the LC broadcastclearly, you should raise your handimmediately to inform the invigilator.WRITTEN EXAMINATIONxThe written examination will be held over five days.xYou are required to write your index number on thecover page of the answer sheet / booklet andquestion booklet. For some papers, you will also berequired to shade your index number in the ovalsprovided.xYou should read and follow the instructions printedon each question booklet and answer sheet /booklet carefully.5

For the Composition papers, You will be given a Composition AnswerBooklet. You must only write your answers on all the linedor boxed pages. You may do your rough work on the blank pages.For papers with MCQs, you should shade theappropriate oval on the Optical Answer Sheet (OAS),answer sheet or answer booklet for your answer toeach question.2.22 Examination RegulationsBEFOREthe start of the examinationYou mustxbe punctual for all examination papers. You will notbe given make-up time if you are late without validreason(s).xbe seated at your assigned desk at least 15minutes before the start of each examination.xbe in your school uniform when you report for theexamination at your school / examination centre.6

xpay attention when the exam personnel isgiving instructions.xbring all materials needed for the examination.They include blue / black ballpoint pens with 0.5mmtip size, 2B pencils, soft erasers, sharpeners r and set-squares).xDo not have in your possession anyunauthorised electronic, smart, computerised orcommunication devices in the examination venue(e.g. examination room / hall, quarantine room,waiting room). These include, but not limited to thefollowing:x Computerised devices Tablet Pocket PC PDA Digital diary eBookx Smart devices Smart watch Smart glasses Fitness trackerxx Communication devices Mobile phone Smart watch Earphonex Other Electronic devices Camera Audio recorder / player Gaming device Storage deviceFor papers that allow the use of dictionaries orcalculators, do not bring printed dictionaries /electronic dictionaries or calculators that are not onthe approved list into the examination venue (e.g.examination room / hall).7

xPlace your bag outside the examination venue orin a place identified by the examination personnel.Do not bring any unauthorised materials within theexamination venue (e.g. Examination room/ hall).These include, but not limited to the following:x Writing papers Sticky notes Booksx Writings on entry proof Notes / reference materials Conversion table / Formulaesheets in mathematical setor calculator coverPlease surrender any unauthorised devices,equipment, materials and personal belongingsto the invigilator immediately if you havebrought them into the examination room / hall.You will not be penalized if you do so before theexamination begins.DURINGthe examinationxDo not attempt to cheat or assist in cheating.xFace the front, do not turn or look around duringyour examination, as this may be perceived y) with other candidates before andduring your examination, and before you arereleased from the examination venue.8

xPay attention when the exam personnel isgiving instructions, stop writing and put downyour pen immediately when instructed to do so.xIf you are not feeling well or need to go to the toileturgently, remain seated and raise your hand toinform the invigilator. The examination personnelwill bring you to a rest area or toilet.xDo not eat in the examination venues (e.g.examination room / hall, quarantine room, waitingroom).AT THE ENDof the examinationxYou must stop writing and close your answerbooklet immediately when told to do so by theinvigilator.xYou must remain seated, face the front, and notcommunicate (verbally or non-verbally) withother candidates, while the question booklets,answer booklets and/or OAS are being collected.xDo not remove any used or unused papers,question booklets, answer booklets and OAS fromthe examination room / hall.9

xDo not leave the examination venues (e.g.examination room / hall and quarantine / waitingroom) without permission from the invigilator.You are only allowed to leave the examinationroom / hall and quarantine / waiting room whenyou are told to do so by the invigilator.If you cheat, attempt to cheat, assist in cheating,misbehave, or do not follow the examinationregulations during the examination, you may:xxxxxxbe banned from taking the examinationbe expelled from the examination venue (e.g.examination room / hall)be disallowed from sitting for subsequent papershave your examination results terminated or beimposed with a grade penaltyhave your result slip and/or examination certificatewithheld or confiscatedbe banned from registering for the examination inthe future10

2.33 Use of DictionariesMother Tongue Languages (MTL)xYou are allowed to use an approved dictionary forPaper 1 (Composition) of MTL and Higher MTL.You can refer to Annex B for the list of approvedprinted and electronic dictionaries.Non-Tamil Indian Languages (NTIL)xYou are allowed to use a dictionary for NTIL Paper1 (Composition). There is no list of approveddictionaries for NTIL. You can bring in anymonolingual dictionary.Other General InstructionsxNo annotation on any pages of your printeddictionary are allowed. Annotations include stickers,highlighted text, and/or written text. Your dictionarymust also be checked by your school beforehandand bear the school’s stamp.xIf you are using an electronic dictionary, it must bechecked by your school beforehand, but a schoolstamp is not required.11

xThe electronic dictionary must be set to silent andbattery operated. No ear-pieces are permitted inthe examination room / hall. You are advised tobring along a spare set of batteries for yourelectronic dictionary.Any unauthorised dictionary found in your possessionduring the examination will be confiscated.You are not allowed to borrow any dictionary from othercandidates during the examination.2.44 Use of Scientific CalculatorsYou are allowed to use only approved scientificcalculator models for Mathematics Paper 2 /Foundation Mathematics Paper 2. You can refer toAnnex C for the list of approved calculator modelsrecommended for use.Your calculator must:t:xbe silent, with a visual display onlyxindicate the original model number and brandclearly, for verification purposesxbe in working condition (this includes the powersupply). This is the responsibility of the candidateand any calculator fault will not be accepted asjustification for special consideration.12

You are to ensure the following:g:xdo not share calculators with other candidates duringthe examinationxdo not bring in calculators with an external storagefunction which can allow users to input and storedata via external storage media, e.g. cards, tapesand plug-in modulesxdo not bring in calculators with wirelesscommunication capability with other machines, e.g.infra-red communication capabilityxdo not bring in calculators with capabilities for storingand displaying verbal informationxdo not bring in any instruction leaflets containing anymathematical formula, conversion table orinstructions, into the examination venue. Any suchinformation that is found on the calculator andcannot be removed must be securely covered.It is a violation of the regulations to use calculators withunacceptable features or for retrieval of information /programs during the examination.13

2.55 Access ArrangementsxAccess Arrangements (AAs) are granted tocandidates with specific learning and/or physicalneeds that have been diagnosed before thecandidates’ examinations, to enable them to sit fortheir examinations without compromising theassessment objectives. AAs are not intended togive a candidate an unfair advantage over othercandidates in the same examination.xYour school would have assisted you in applyingfor AAs for the 2021 PSLE for any existingconditions that you may have, by the closing datein January 2021. You can expect to receive yourAA outcome letter through your school in aboutthree months after the submission of yourapplication. If you have not received the letter afterthis period, please approach your school forassistance.xYou should bring along and show the approved AAoutcome letter to the examination personnel beforethe start of each of your examination.xIf you wish to withdraw the granted AAs, a letter ofwithdrawal is required from your parent / guardian,and it must be submitted through the school toSEAB, at least five days before the date of theexamination that the AA has been applied for.SEAB will not reinstate the provision of an AA onceit has been withdrawn.14

xYour result slip and examination certificate will beannotated if you have any of the approved AAslisted below. Your result slip and examinationcertificate will still be annotated even if you did notmake use of the approved AAs during the PSLE,and if you did not submit your withdrawal requestby the stipulated deadline.- Extra time allowance (including preparationtime for Oral examination);- Exemption from a component e.g. Oral,Listening Comprehension;- Modification of examination papers;- Use of word processor facilities and othercomputer aids;- Use of reader; and- Use of scribe.Note: Other approved AA provisions will not beannotated.2.66 Annotation SymbolsxThere are three types of annotation symbols. Theexplanations for the symbols are provided on thee.back of the result slip and examination certificate.- Exemption Symbol (#)#)‘The candidate was exempted from satisfyingthe full range of assessment objectives in thissubject.’15

- Access Arrangement Symbol ( )‘The candidate sat the paper under AccessArrangements.’- Absent Without Valid Reason Symbol (*)‘The candidate was absent for the subjectwithout a valid reason.’2.77 Instructions for Unexpected SituationsIf you are hospitalised or are suffering from acontagious disease, necessary arrangements willbe made, provided that: you have been certified medically fit to sit forthe examination, you have informed your school, sufficient time is given to makemthenecessary arrangementstsand subjectbject to prevailing conditions related toCovid-19.9.If you are hospitalised, your school will makearrangements for you to sit your examination in thehospital.If you are recovering from a contagious disease (e.g.chickenpox or Hand, Foot & Mouth Disease) and arecertified medically fit to take the PSLE, your school will16

make arrangements for you to sit the examination in aseparate room.If you are not feeling well and are not able to sit forthe examination, please inform your school before theexamination for advice.3. RESULTS & CERTIFICATES3.1 PSLE Results ReleasexThe tentative dates for the release of the 2021PSLE results are between 22 and 26 November2021.3.2 Result Slips and CertificatesxYou will receive your PSLE result slip andexamination certificate through your school.xYou will receive your PSLE examination certificateif you are awarded a grade for at least one PSLEsubject. Ungraded subjects are not reflected in theexamination certificate.xIf SEAB suspects that any examination rule orregulation has been breached, SEAB may withholdyour result slip and examination certificate, pendingthe outcome of the investigation. Following theinvestigation, a decision will be made on whether toissue your result slip and examination certificate toyou.17

xAny request for a reprint of your examinationcertificate due to an amendment of your personalparticulars must be made through your school by17 December 2021. Requests received after thedeadline may not be considered.xAn administrative charge of S 50 is payable foreach request.xThe original examination certificate must bereturned to the school in exchange for the reprintedexamination certificate.xSEAB does not issue duplicate copies of the resultslip and examination certificate. A Statement ofResults (SOR) is available instead.xA fee is chargeable for each SOR.xFor purchase of SORs, you may visit SEAB chaseof-statements-of-results.3.3 Withdrawal from PSLExIf you have withdrawn from the PSLE, you will notbe issuedany result slip or examinationed withwcertificate.e.xYou will not be entitled to any refund of theexamination fees that have been paid.exa19

3.4 Appeal for Review of PSLE ResultsxIf you wish to appeal for a review of your PSLEresults, you must submit your request through yourPrincipal.xAn appeal fee will be charged for each subject.xYour appeal must reach SEAB through the schoolwithin one week from the date of release of thePSLE results.xAppeals received after the deadline will not beconsidered.3.5 Ownershipp of All Documents Issued toCandidatesxAll documents issued to candidates, including butnot limited to the result slips and examinationcertificates, are the property of SEAB and areprovided to candidates on condition of strictcompliance with the Examination Instructions andRegulations contained in this booklet.xSEAB may recall any issued documents from anycandidate at any time in its sole discretion. Thisincludes, but is not limited to, the discovery of acandidate's breach of the examination rules andregulations.xCandidates shall comply with any demand ordirection by SEAB to submit or surrenderdocumentstoSEABwithoutdelay.20
