About this campaignCount Me InOf the 30.3 million Americans living withdiabetes, 7.2 million are undiagnosed. 90% ofthe 84 million Americans that have prediabetesdo not know it. What if we told you that numbersmake all the difference when it comes to stoppingthis disease? From the number of advocates’voices fighting for those living with diabetes tothe number of research breakthroughs towards acure. From the number of people who know theirrisk, to the number on your blood glucose meter.Numbers like these can change everything.But these numbers allow us to face the threathead on. Let go of the “what ifs” and plant ourfeet firmly in the reality of what’s next. Becauseunlike some numbers, these are numbers youcan change.So thank you for joining us this November forAmerican Diabetes Month (ADM). This yearthere is a way for everyone to get involved. We areencouraging those who are unaware of their risk fordiabetes to take the Type 2 Diabetes Risk Test andlearn their risk. We want to empower those whocurrently live with the disease or already know theirrisk by encouraging them to talk to their doctor,learn more about the resources available to helpmanage diabetes and commit to a healthy lifestylechange. Finally, we are asking everyone impactedby diabetes to get involved in the fight by raisingtheir voices as advocates, volunteering, donatingand sharing their involvement with others.Where can I start?Nearly half of American adults live with diabetes or are at risk for diabetes.This American Diabetes Month, we challenge you to change the numbers. Discover your risk for type 2 diabetes.Check your blood glucose. Know how to spot the warning signs. Learn how diet and daily activity can prevent adiagnosis. ImplementationHow to ParticipateThere is a way for everyone to count themselves in forthis year’s campaign. We want everyone to educatethemselves on diabetes and their risk and take actionby committing to a healthy lifestyle change, donation,volunteering or advocating on our behalf. We alsowant everyone to share how they got involved.Show Your SolidarityOn November 1st, to kick off American DiabetesMonth, show your solidarity, whether you havediabetes, you’re supporting someone who has it,or you’re a caregiver, health care provider, or friend.Raise your voice, mark your fist and share your imageon social media using #CountMeInADA and showthe world that we are united.#CountMeInADAKnow Your NumbersAwareness is the first step in managing the diabetesepidemic. Take the Risk Test and learn your numbers.Take a blood sugar test or an A1C test. Encourageeveryone in your network to do the same so thateveryone is aware of their individual risk.Commit to a Healthy Lifestyle ChangeIf you are at high-risk, reach out to your doctor aboutgetting tested for diabetes. Once you have learnedyour risk, take action by committing to a healthylifestyle change. This can be as simple as addingphysical activity to your day (aim for 30 minutes mostdays of the week) or making a positive change in yourdiet. Share your pledge on social media and use thehashtag #CountMeInADA and encourage others tojoin you in making a change.Become an Advocate or VolunteerCount yourself in by raising your voice and supportingall those living with diabetes. Get involved as a localadvocate or give your time as an ADA volunteer.Donate or FundraiseThe American Diabetes Association leads thecharge against diabetes by funding research forprevention, cure and management, offering servicesand programs for those living with the diseaseand providing a voice for all who are impacted bydiabetes. Support our mission by donating todayor starting a do-it-yourself fundraiser.Share Your InvolvementAfter making a commitment or taking an action,spread the word via social media channels and askothers if we can count them in, too.
