IntroductionAbout the Heritage Resource GuideWho is it for?The Heritage Resource Guide gathers together awide range of online materials aimed at guidingindependent explorations of various aspects ofheritage – past and present - in Ireland and elsewhere, at local, regional, national, and international scales. Subjects covered in the guide includemonuments and buildings, archaeological sites, arthistory, historical records, folklore and oral histories,food, music, literature, and natural heritage, in theform of online materials, video channels, podcasts,and even mobile apps. Emerge yourself in the travels of Irish individuals who set off to Scandinaviain search of work in the post-medieval period, themany stone monuments of the Irish landscape, thenoble tree specimens standing in parks and woodlands throughout the country, or the traditional foodculture of Galway.The guide has been assembled for the benefit ofthose interested in learning more about the heritageof Ireland and its connection to the wider world,whether that be historical, environmental, or traditional elements of our past and present societies. Itis hoped this resource will be used by communitygroups and heritage enthusiasts, schools, students,and any other interested individual or group. It isimportant to note that this guide is not an exhaustivelist of available resources but is, instead, intendedto form a starting point and further guide researchundertaken.Most of the resources included are from or are affiliated with reputable sources, i.e. national or otherstate-sponsored bodies and university institutions,where the accuracy of the information is considered to be trustworthy.
