Hotels have been closed,employees have been furloughed or fired, new projects are put on hold, and it is clear that near-termprojections for the industry remain highly challenging.As the coronavirus curve gets flattened, and as hotels reopen to welcome guests again, hoteliers knowthey need to find ways not just to recover, but also to rethink and reimagine their business and operatingmodel. Tomorrow’s hotels will require new ways of thinking and doing to deliver the brand promise andguest experience expected by tomorrow’s hotel guests.We are pleased to launch the Executive Certificate in Hospitality Management, the first programme ofits kind that delivers a unique learning experience aimed at developing future leaders in the hospitalityindustry. He is the Academic Director of Nanyang Executive Education, and Programme Director of the Executive CertificateProgramme in Hospitality Management. He was the Programme Director for the Management Development Program (MDP)in Asian Hospitality. He is a member of the Editorial Board of Cornell Hospitality Quarterly and a reviewer for the InternationalJournal of Contemporary Hospitality Management. He has been a Visiting Research Scholar at Cornell Hotel School anda faculty in Cornell-Nanyang Institute of Hospitality Management (CNIHM). He taught in the Master of Management inHospitality (MMH) programme and has been involved in the General Managers Program (GMP) as well as ProfessionalDevelopment Programs (PDP) for hoteliers and hotel executives around the region.

This module provides a conceptual toolkit to harness criticalfinancial information for tactical planning and strategic business decision makingwithin the hospitality sector.You will learn to assess financial statements, determine the nature of costs and theirinfluences on pricing and strategic business decisions, apply different budgetary controltechniques, as well as analyse profitability and financial performance of differentmarket segments within the hospitality industry. Hands-on practical exercises andcase studies will allow you to reinforce technical knowledge and concepts.Besides learning to analyse various types of hotel industry data and make strategicinferences based on that analysis, you will also gain a comprehensive understandingof benchmarking and performance reports in this module.With this knowledge, you will be able to make informed business and executivedecisions that will substantially impact revenue optimisation for your organisation,as well as understand the importance of revenue management as a core strategy.At the end of the programme, you will receive a Certification in Hotel IndustryAnalytics (CHIA), for industry professionals through a joint effort between SmithTravel Research (STR), American Hotel & Lodging Educational Institute (AHLEI)and International Council on Hotel, Restaurant, and Institutional Education (ICHRIE).In this module, you will explore strategy fundamentals including competitiveadvantage, capabilities, resources and industry structure, get an outward view ofindustry forces and economy-wide mega trends and an understanding of consumerbehaviour and business expectations.This module includes an immersion programme, where you will see first-hand howcustomer experience is designed and delivered, and eventually apply it as a strategyin your own organisation.You will gain critical competencies, skills and drivers to become an effective andstrategic leader in the hospitality industry.
