Advanced Placement for the LPN (Transition Student)Admission for Summer 2020A Nursing Transition plan has been designed for the Licensed Practical Nurse who desires to enter the AssociateDegree Nursing program with advanced standing. Applicants who meet the admission requirements outlined belowand successfully complete the Nursing Transition course (NUR 214) with a “C” or better, will be allowed to enroll inNUR 211 and complete the Associate Degree program requirements. Applicants who are taking NUR 214 havebeen accepted into the associate degree nursing program. Each step of the admission procedure must becompleted before moving to the next step.Admission Procedure Summer 2020The nursing applicant will be required to meet steps I-IV before admission. Each step of the admission procedure must becompleted before moving to the next step.STEP I Application Process: Deadline: October 15A. Applicants must submit an admissions application to Wilson Community College with an official high school transcript orequivalency and all post-secondary coursework.B. Applicants must submit all required documents and complete the admissions process, to be officially admitted to thecollege.C. Applicants must complete an Allied Health Intent Form available under Allied Health at www.wilsoncc.edu.STEP II Test of Essential Academic Skills (TEAS): Deadline October 15A. Applicants who have completed Step I will schedule an appointment to take the TEAS by contacting Student Developmentat 252-246-1281 or 252-246-1276. Applicants are allowed to take the TEAS twice in a 12 month period at least 30 daysapart. The highest TEAS score taken within the last two years will be used for ranking.1. Applicants will be required to pay a 65.00 testing fee to the Business Office (F-101)2. Picture ID and payment receipt must be presented at the time of testing.3. Applicants who opt to take the TEAS at another institution must submit final TEAS scores by the October 15 deadlinein order for them to be considered.4. Applicants must achieve a 63.3% on the overall adjusted score.B. After successful completion of the TEAS, applicants will be notified of the test date for the RN Fundamentals 2016,Content Mastery Test by ATI. Applicants are allowed to the take the test twice in a 12 month period, at least 30 daysapart. The highest test score taken within the last two years will be used for ranking. The deadline is October 15.1. Applicants must pay a 37.00 testing fee to the Business Office (F-101).2. Picture ID and payment receipt must be presented at the time of testing.3. Applicants who take the RN Fundamentals at another institution must submit final scores by the October 15 deadlinein order for them to be considered.4. Applicants must achieve a Level 1 or 51.7% on the RN Fundamentals 2016, Content Mastery Test.STEP III Program-Specific RequirementsA. Applicants must be eligible to enroll in ENG 111 and MAT 143 without a co-requisite. In order to be eligible, all prerequisites courses must be completed, substituted or waived. The pre-requisites for each course can be found in theCourse Descriptions section of the catalog. If you have questions regarding eligibility please contact Student Developmentat 252-246-1281.B. Applicants must be enrolled in or have completed BIO 168 by applications deadline.C. Applicants must have a grade point average of 2.0 or higher on all general education (non-NUR prefix) courses that arerequired for the Transition Program.D. Applicants must have and maintain an unencumbered LPN License, with no history of disciplinary sanctions or actions,with the North Carolina Board of Nursing.E.Applicants that received their LPN license more than three years from the date of admission must provide evidence ofhaving worked at least 1040 hours as an LPN in the past 3 years. Should there be more qualified applicants than space available, a point system will be used to rank applicants anddetermine selection for admission to the Transition program. The following items will be used in consideration for ranking: TEAS Adjusted Individual Score. Non-nursing (NUR) courses. If an applicant has taken courses more than once, the highest grade will be used toaward points. Diplomas – excluding LPN (5 points), Associate Degrees (10 points), and Bachelor’s Degree or higher (15 points). 3 points will be awarded to students that graduated from Wilson Community College’s practical nursing program.All documentation for ranking is due by October 15. Documentation received after this date will not be considered.B. Qualified applicants will receive a letter of conditional acceptance by November 15th. Enclosed with this letter will be aCertificate of Acceptance (COA), a physical form and a form with instructions on how to complete criminal background,drug screen, and immunization tracking.C. COAs are due to Student Development (F-100) by December 1.D. Physical forms are to be submitted through Viewpoint Screening by December 1. Physical exams must be completed bya physician, nurse practitioner, or physician’s assistant within 12 months prior to the first day of class.E. Immunizations required:a. CPR Tetanus – Tdap within the last 10 years,b. Measles, Mumps and Rubella (MMR) – 2 shots or a positive titer with results and date,c. Hepatitis B (Hep B) – 3 shots or a positive titer with results and date,d. Varicella times two or a positive titer,e. Annual flu vaccine by October 31st; andf. 2 Step TB Skin test or proof of annual test for two years. If last annual TB skin test is more than a year old a two stepwill be required. Two steps must be completed less than 30 days apart.Immunizations may not be declined except by a written statement from the applicant’s health care provider for acceptableexemptions which may include pregnancy or an allergy to the vaccine.STEP V Final Acceptance Requirements:Final acceptance will be determined by the Dean of Allied Health & Sciences based on the following conditions being met:A. Student must order and complete the Criminal Background Check, Urine Drug Screen and immunization tracking asrequired by all clinical agencies by February 1st for final admission. Criminal background and drug screens will bereviewed by the clinical agencies and must be deemed clear by the clinical agency.B. Student must be in good academic standing (not on academic warning or probation) for consideration for final admission.C. Students shall attend orientation during the spring before starting the program in the summer and uniforms shall beordered at that time.D. Students must earn a “C” in all NUR and BIO courses.E.
