Needs Assessment:Obesity rates remain high and more people are seeking for bariatric surgeryas a treatment option. Healthcare providers must demonstrate continuousquality of care as well as integrate new medical findings into their practicein order to apply safe and efficient care to the bariatric surgery patient. Thecourse will familiarize participants with updated care for the bariatric surgerypatient by providing didactic lectures, panel discussions, and interactiveaudience participation.Course Overview:This two day course is designed for general and bariatric surgeons, alliedhealth professionals, and dietitians whom are interested in comprehensivecare of the bariatric surgical patient. The course will review the latest updatesin nutritional guidelines, operative procedures, and patient management inthe bariatric surgery patient.Objectives:Completion of this course will enable participants to:1.Identify and describe the different dynamics of adolescent bariatricsurgery programs in psychology and family training2.Identify and describe the immediate and long-term psychologicalchanges for the post-surgical bariatric patient in body image andcross addictions3.Identify the importance of bariatric surgery for the overallimprovement in sexual functioning, in most reproductive hormones ofinterest, and in psychosocial status4.Describe the latest nutritional guidelines for the bariatric patient5.Describe the effects of bariatric surgery on diabetes and diabetesmanagement6.Identify and describe the importance of pre-operative endoscopy ona bariatric surgery patient7.Identify and describe the different vitamin deficiencies
