Healthcareproviders must demonstrate continuous quality of care while integrating newmedical findings into their practice to apply safe and efficient care to the bariatricpatient. This course will familiarize participants with updated care for the bariatricpatient through didactic lectures, panel discussions, interactive audienceparticipation and an optional hands-on activity for surgeons.Course OverviewThis two-day course is designed for general and bariatric surgeons, allied healthprofessionals and dietitians who are interested in comprehensive care of thebariatric surgical patient. The course will review the latest updates in nutritionalguidelines, operative procedures and patient management in the bariatric surgerypatient. An optional hands-on activity for surgeons to learn stenting will beavailable.

Differentiate the various types of bariatric surgical procedures and choose theright one for the patient. Identify and describe the importance of endoscopy on a bariatric surgerypatient. Identify and describe the immediate and long-term psychological changes forthe post-surgical bariatric patient in body image and cross addictions. Describe the latest nutritional guidelines for the bariatric patient. Describe the effects of bariatric surgery on patients with diabetes and theirdiabetes management. Identify and describe different vitamin deficiencies.AccreditationThe Ohio State University Medical Center, Center for Continuing Medical Educationis accredited by the Accreditation Council for Continuing Medical Education(ACCME) to sponsor continuing medical education for physicians.The Ohio State University Medical Center designates this educational activity for amaximum of 14.5 AMA PRA Category I Credit .
