Advanced musical theatre repertoire study in preparation for professional auditions.Student Learning OutcomesIn this course, the student will: Develop professional-level audition techniquesDevelop and expand audition repertoire for musical theatre auditionsEnhance development of vocal technique (breath, pitch, tone, intonation,articulation)Utilize Stanislavski acting technique as it relates to musical theatre performanceExplore repertoire written by musical theatre composers of various culturalbackgroundsDevelop a personal aesthetic related to audition preparation for musical theatreMethodology/AssessmentStudent learning outcomes will be assessed with: Performance of musical theatre repertoire in mock auditions Participation in classroom discussion and exercises Research and analysis of musical theatre show history and character breakdown

Grades are not “given” – theyare “earned.” Therefore, equal weight will be placed on the following: Communication with the accompanistPreparation for and execution of audition materialProfessional attitude and appearanceClearly-demonstrated performance techniqueUse of discipline-specific vocabularyAny lowering of the final grade due to attendance problems will be completed once allassignment grades have been totaled.Grading questions should be discussed with the Professor by private appointment only. Nodiscussion of grades will occur during class time. Please be aware that all grading is subjective,and the Professor will make every attempt to clearly define what criteria was used in the

The grading scale for this course will be based on the followingsystem:Letter GradePercentageA97%A-95%B 90%B85%B-80%C 75%C70%C-65%D 60%D55%D-50%F49% and belowIncomplete GradesThe University of Central Florida catalog lists the following information regarding “incompletegrades”:A grade of “I” (Incomplete) may be assigned by the Professor when a student is unableto complete a course due to extenuating circumstances, and when all requirements canbe completed in a short time following the end of the term. The student is responsible toarrange with the Professor for the completion of the requirements of the course.Effective with incomplete grades assigned in the Fall semester 1997 and thereafter, astudent CANNOT graduate from the University with an “I” on the transcript. Theincomplete must be changed within one year of the last day of the semester attemptedor prior to graduation from the University, whichever comes first. Unresolvedincomplete grades automatically will be changed to “F” by the Registrar’s Office.Unresolved “I” grades in courses graded with “S” or “U” will be converted to “U.”Extra CreditNo extra credit is offered in this class. Careless attendance will not be tolerated.If you are ill, please notify the Professor as soon as possible and seek medical attention. If youmiss class due to illness, see a doctor or go to the Student Health Center.If you are unable to participate in a class session, it is your responsibility to notify theProfessor of your absence via phone or e-mail. Failure to do so will result in the absence beingmarked as unexcused.Any work missed due to EXCUSED absences may be made up through special arrangement withthe Professor.
