Despite lost mefrom weather, it has been an incrediblyposi ve, produc ve school year so far, andwe look to build upon that. As we movethrough the year, we con nuously look to“ramp” things up and expect a bit more fromeach learner over me. For our 8th graders,we need them to con nue their focus as weproperly prepare them for high school andbeyond. Transi on ac vi es, which includeHS open houses, visits, selec ons and courserequests are well underway. Wealready look forward tonext year’sperformance, whateverit may be!School Geography BeeCongratula ons to all par cipants in our recent schoolGeography Bee. House winners par cipated today todetermine school winners, who will compete at the next level.AssessmentIn January, over 100 of ourstudents par cipated inAccess tes ng.Addi onally, our other 400students par cipated inprac ce Smarter Balancedtes ng. The goal of this wasto orient staff and students tothe format and tools of this test.As you may know, this is thestate tes ng which replaces theNECAP tes ng. It is aligned tothe Common Core StateStandards. The data serves asanother data point to accessstudent progress and schoolprogramming. All studentswill par cipate in this tes ngin March and April. Stu‐dents spent a day in area businesses learning aboutknowledge and skills necessary to be successful in thework world. We thank Junior Achievement and our par c‐ipa ng businesses for helping to prepare our students forSafe, secure, valued, and respected:At this point in me, I hope thateveryone has heard those words.These words represent a large part ofour work in the past with the localNAACP in our work to assure that allstudents are in an op mal learningenvironment. We con nue to use thislanguage to outline expecta ons for posi ve behaviors at ourschool. Students receive SOAR cards when they exhibit properbehaviors. These cards are used as currency to purchase itemsSnow daysWhat to do as astudent on snow days?!Please encourage yourchild to con nue theireduca on on such daysby reading and doingmath. All studentsMrs. Trieu enjoying the latestsnow dayhave access to Aleks formath work. On a snow day, studentscould complete at least anhour of math prac ce athome. They could also read forat least an hour. Literacy andnumeracy skills areessen al to all learning inmiddle school, high school,college and in the world ofwork!Basketball Season Ended (new sports begin)Congratula ons to all of our studentathletes who par cipated in therecent basketball season.
