InstallationInsert the output cableinto the rear of thecamera.Plug the transformer intoa wall socket and Plug the SCARTconnector into thetelevision* and power onthe television. plug the powerconnector into the socketlocated mid-way alongthe output cable.You should have animage on the TV. If it is too far or too close to the textthe camera will not be able to focus correctly.The light can be rotated as shown. A blue imagewill appear on your TV and, after a few seconds, thepicture from the camera will appear on the TV.Pushing the Power button again will power-off thePrisma AF.ModeRepeated pressing of the Mode button will cyclethrough the three available viewing modes. Photo mode – full colour for general viewing. Positive mode – high contrast black on white. Negative mode – white letters on a blackbackground.MagnificationPress the Zoom-Up button to enlarge the image andZoom-Down to reduce the image size. Whenreading you should generally choose the smallestsize that you can read comfortably. The Prisma AFhas limits set for each end of the magnificationrange, but you can override these limits by holding inPage 5Prisma AF English Rev 1.00

the zoom buttons though image quality willdeteriorate.OverviewOverview allows you to easily locate a point ofinterest on the page you are viewing. Press andrelease the Overview button to make the camerazoom out fully and revert to full-colour mode. An “X”is displayed in the centre of the screen as an aid tolocation. Place the point of interest under the “X” andpress any key to restore the magnification to theprevious level.FocusThe camera will continuously autofocus to achievethe sharpest image. However, please be aware thatthere is a limited range over which the camera canfocus. Raising the camera too high (greater than30cms from the base of the camera to the page) orplacing the camera too low (less than 25cms fromthe page) will mean the camera cannot focus at highmagnification correctly. If the image does not appearto be in focus, try raising or lowering the camera tocorrect it.BrightnessThe image brightness can be adjusted to suit yourpreference. Press and hold the Mode button forthree seconds and text of the form “Bri: 3” willappear in the centre of the screen. Use the ZoomUp and Zoom Down buttons to adjust the image asdesired. Press Mode again to save the setting. Thesetting you choose will be saved and usedsubsequently for that mode of operation.Page 6Prisma AF English Rev 1.00

Using the Prisma AFReading with the Prisma AFPlace the Prisma AF on a suitable table near thetelevision and sit in front of it. Ideally the televisionshould be at eye level or slightly below, and thePrisma AF reading table should be level with yourelbows when seated. A good reading positionprevents problems with your back, neck and arms.Place the material you wish to read on the readingtable, looking at the TV screen to see where you are.Adjust the magnification to suit. Ensure the camerahead is horizontal for optimum image quality.Move the book on the table until you locate the top ofthe page and then locate the start of the text. Simplyslide the book side to side and watch the televisionscreen while reading.There is a mat provided with your Prisma AF tofacilitate reading heavier materials. across the reading table with the rubber sideupwards. Place the book on the mat and slide themat from side to side.Writing with the Prisma AFRemove the mat from the table. Place the pageunder the camera and locate the area of the pagewhere you wish to start writing (the overview functionis useful for this). Holding the page firmly, bring yourpen, raised well above the paper, until the nib isvisible on the screen at the point you wish to write.Lower the pen to the paper carefully and write. Youshould watch the screen as you write.Locating the Prisma AF camera in a well-lit area willenhance the image available from the unit. Ifpossible, avoid direct overhead lighting as this cancause shadows on the page, leading to shadingdifferences on the screen.Mirror viewThe Prisma AF has a mirror mode that is useful forchecking your appearance. The mirror modeengages automatically when you tilt the camera headupwards to face the camera outwards. The unit willPage 8Prisma AF English Rev 1.00

switch to photo setting when in mirror mode andswitch back to the last reading mode when returnedto the reading position. You should try to keep thePrisma AF close to the TV screen for ease of use.Focus lockPress Mode and Overview simultaneously to turn offthe autofocus facility. Repeat to re-enable autofocus.Lighting on/offIf you wish to turn off the LED lighting then, with theunit powered off, press Zoom Up and power the uniton. Repeat to allow the lighting to function again.Sound on/offThe sounds can be disabled by Pressing ZoomDown while powering on the unit. Repeat to enablethe sounds again.Factory defaultsPress Mode while powering-on the Prisma AF torestore factory settings for sound, lighting andbrightness settings.Taking Care of your Prisma AFDo not touch the lens. Dirt on the lens will appear asa blurred or dim image or as fuzzy spots on thescreen. If you believe the lens is dirty, it can becleaned with a soft, dry cloth applying minimalpressure. As the lens is polished and coated, do notuse a wet or coarse cloth, avoid detergents andabrasive substances or solvents to clean it.Page 9Prisma AF English Rev 1.00

If the hinges loosenwith use they can betightened with theAllen key provided.To do this, pull off thecaps covering thehinge screws andinsert the Allen keyinto the screw head.Turn each screwclockwise about aquarter turn – do not over-tighten. Replace the caps.Use only the supplied power supply and inspect thecabling regularly for damage.
