Practical Nursing ProgramUpdated 2/12/2021Licensed practical nurses (LPNs) work in all medical areas such as hospitals, schools, nursing homes, healthcare clinics and even in a patient’s home. Upon completion of the program, graduates will receive acertificate of completion and will then be eligible to sit for the NCLEX PN exam to receive licensure.The day program offers a fall semester and spring semester start with classes Monday-Friday 7:30 a.m.-4:30p.m. The evening/weekend program offers a spring semester start ONLY with classes two evenings a weekfrom 4 – 9:30 p.m. and clinical experiences every Saturday from 8 a.m. – 3:30 p.m. All PN classes and labsare held at Stark State College Akron. Clinical experiences are at healthcare facilities within a 75-mile radius.There are 46 seats available with each new cohort.The Practical Nursing website has been created to give you a broad overview about Licensed PracticalNurses; the PN program; and the requirements for admission. Please let them knowat that time that you are interested in pursuing a Practical Nursing major.Initial Requirements for the PN program:1.Proficiency requirements:*IDS102 with B or better (or proficiency [Accuplacer Reading Score 246 ])*MTH022 with B or better (or proficiency [Accuplacer Math Score 250 ])2.High school or post-secondary GPA of 2.0 or greater3.FBI/BCI Background check through Stark State Security Valid for 1 year4.TEAS Test – 58.7 percentile or higher Valid for 3 yearsTest can be taken more than once – the PN program does not limit the number of times the test istaken or the time frame between taking the test – although applicants are encouraged to utilizeremediation resources before retesting.5.SSC101 and BIO101 (or equivalent) with a C or better. These courses may be completed duringthe 1st semester of the PN program. However, it is strongly recommended that they are takenprior to entering the PN program to ensure a successful foundation.**Applicants must submit three (3) items to Stark State College Akron - Gateway Student Services(Attn: PN Program Coordinator), to be considered for admission: completed PN application, backgroundcheck email from SSC Security office, and TEAS test results. All items must be turned in together prior tothe May 15th deadline for the Fall cohort or November 15th for the Spring cohort. The Admission Committeewill review applications and notify applicants by email if they are accepted or declined for admission.Once accepted, students must attend a mandatory orientation to receive information about CPR,drug screen, health records, uniforms, and ID badges.
