BUSINESS SERVICESWiggin’s Trading Post is training a MeatCutter through the OJT program providedby Sierra County Business and CareerNetwork office in Loyalton. Theemployee/trainee is, Brittiany Fezler. Thespecialty meat cutter at Wiggin’s, DonnaMatlock, is training Brittiany, who startedin January. Donna is very pleased withthe progress being made by Brittainy.Seems this meat cutting runs in the familyas Brittiany’s mother worked with Donnaat Wiggin’s in the past as a meat cutter!Congratulations Brittiany and Wiggin’s fora 2nd generation meat cutter.CLIENT SUCCESSHeidi Tipton came in to the Sierra Office looking for full time employment. She had abackground with strong customer service and computer skills but was struggling to findfull time employment in this tough economy. Heidi worked with Business and CareerNetwork staff to make some adjustments to her resume and make it stand out. Heidiwas also advised on current interview trends. She diligently utilized the computer lab toapply for jobs online and applied for just about every job we referred her to. She washoping to find a job in the Truckee area and was successful. Heidi was recently hired atPlumas Bank in Truckee as a full time benefitted Bank Teller. She is very happy anddoing well in her new position.

AFWD All Staff TrainingSubmitted by: Jenna Lauppe & Amee AlbrechtThe Alliance for Workforce Development, Inc. All Staff training was held at the beautiful GaiaHotel in Anderson, CA. On February 12th 2013 all staff members from Butte, Lassen, Modoc,Plumas, & Sierra counties came together to discuss updated companywide changes. Thisinformational event began with a humorous icebreaker Bingo game and employee introductions;it was nice to see all of the faces behind AFWD, Inc. Suzan Leonhardt presented changes to theupdated employee handbook, company vehicle policies, and discussed in depth ourcompanywide policies. Great information was provided and many questions answered. Next, tomix it up a bit, we took part in a quiz based on little known facts about the 5 AFWD counties.During the afternoon session of the meeting AFWD’s Executive Director Traci Holt gave apresentation on pivotal company information. Traci discussed in depth the Training Directive,WIA funding and allocations, as well as the Workforce Investment Board. Following Traci’spresentation Patrick Bradley gave an informative presentation on our new SharePoint systemand AFWD’s blog and demonstrated how to add events and sync SharePoint calendars intoOutlook. The All Staff Meeting concludedwith an Award Appreciation ceremony byAlisa Marble and Amee Albrecht who gavea big thank you to individual staff memberswho have made great contributions to theAFWD team.

17th Annual Plumas &Sierra Job FairsQuincy and GraeagleThe Business and Career Network hosted two jobfairs during the last week of March with one inQuincy and the other in Graeagle.Quincy Job Fair at Feather River CollegeEach job fair ran from 2:00pm to4:00pm with employers settingup in advance. Even before thedoors opened there were jobseekers, with resumes in hand,ready to meet the employers,view the Business and CareerNetwork display of job flyersandcompletestandardapplications on site for theemployers. Several jobseekerswere dressed in interview attire andparticipated in informal interviews duringboth afternoons. A number of youth alsoattended, giving them the opportunity tosee how a job fair is conducted andallowing them the chance to view theprofessional world. They were also able tolearn about the employment optionsavailable within their community.Most employers were actively hiring forcurrent positions with others collectingapplications for their applicant pool. SierraPacific Industries met with many prospectiveemployees and the United States ForestService brought a team of staff members who

talked with interested candidates, providing information about thehiring process including specific requirements for various positions within the service.In Graeagle many of the localbusinesses involved in the tourismindustry were hiring, along with thePlumas County Sheriff’s Office andSierra County Human ServicesDepartment. At both venues thebusiness and entity representativeswere delighted with the chance tomeet with several prospectiveemployees all under one roof and for the opportunity to participate in local, wellorganized job fairs.The Business and Career Network display of employmentopportunities in Plumas and Sierra counties.
