The students have been preparing byparticipating in home groups over a number of weeks. I wouldlike to acknowledge the volunteers who facilitated the groups –Thank you. Confirmation is a true sacrament instituted by Christand is different from baptism. It is administered by laying-on of hands and anointing withchrism accompanied by prayer. The chrism is blessed by the bishop and the bishopadministers the sacrament. All baptised persons can and should be confirmed. The effect ofthe Sacrament of Confirmation is to give strength in faith and for the confession of faithand to impress an indelible character. (Catholic.org)Bishop Michael will be visiting St John’s this Friday to meet with our Year 6 students.Athletics Carnival: Let us hope that Thursday brings sunshineas we enjoy the amazing facilities of DCL Park at our annualABORIGINAL EDUCATIONWORKER:Kristie DaleyAthletes carnival. Gospel and Reflection:Luke 9:11-17 - Jesus made the crowds welcome and talked to them about the kingdom ofGod; and he cured those who were in need of healing. It was late afternoon when the Twelve came to him and said, ‘Send the people away, andthey can go to the villages and farms round here to find lodgings and food; for we are in alonely place here.’ He replied, ‘Give them something to eat yourselves.’ But they said, ‘We have no more than fiveloaves and two fish, unless we are to go ourselves and buy food for all these people.’ For there were about fivethousand people. But he said to his disciples, ‘Get them to sit down in parties of about fifty.’ They did so andmade them all sit down. Then he took the five loaves and the two fish, raised his eyes to heaven, and said theblessing over them; then he broke them and handed them to his disciples to distribute among the crowd. They allate as much as they wanted, and when the scraps remaining were collected they filled twelve baskets.Reflection: Jesus made the crowds welcome and the Twelve wanted to send them away. It was not that theTwelve wanted rid of them; rather, their desire to send the crowds away was an expression of concern for thewellbeing of the people, who had been without food for hours. When we receive Jesus in the Eucharist we are in his presence as surely as the people he fed with loaves andfishes were. The distribution of bread and wine comes near the end of the Mass. There is a short time of silence, perhaps a hymn, a blessing, and then the people are sent away to be Jesus in the world. In the short time between communion and the ending of the Mass, have we had time to experience the presence of Jesus deeplyenough to satisfy our spiritual hunger, our desire for an intimate knowledge of him, our need to simply be withhim? The people stayed and they were fed by Jesus. If they had left as the Twelve proposed, they may not have foundsufficient food in the surrounding area and might have remained hungry. To stay in the presence of Jesus, intimes of prayer or after Mass or in those moments when he is suddenly present to us, is the greatest privilege. Itis essential to stay in the moment and not be tempted to rush off to all the other things in our lives; there is nonowhere else where we can receive such food for our souls.Have a wonderful week and God blessAnthony O'LearyImportant Dates to Remember May 31ICAS Science Exam June 1Reflection Evening for Confirmation 6pm (St Brigid’s Church) PLEASE NOTE: INCORRECTDATE IN LAST WEEK’S NEWSLETTER June 2Athletics Carnival (Years 3-6) June 3Infants Sports Day (Kinder—Year 2) June 9Clothing Pool 8:30—9am June 18Trivia Night—Castlereagh Hotel June 23School Photo Day June 30Year 2 Snuggle Pot n Cuddle Pie DRTCC Performance July 1Term 2 Concludes July 18Term 3 Commences
