Broadcom acquired CA Technologies inNovember 2018, coming close on the back of CA’sacquisition of Automic in 2017. Automic Automationremains the strategic WLA product for Broadcom.While all CA and Automic products continue tobe supported, Automic Automation v12.3 is theonly Broadcom WLA product reviewed in thisreport. Automic Automation provides automationfor complex workloads across platforms, ERPsystems, and business apps from mainframe tomicroservices and serverless in both cloud andon-premises. Automic Automation provides selfservice automation with service catalog integrations(e.g., ServiceNow) and automation-as-codefacilities for automation and orchestration. Theproduct also simplifies automation for big data andoffers self-services for data scientists to scale withstrong governance on data flows. The Automationteam has remained focused in the wake of severalacquisitions. They have modernized the UI ofseveral existing CA products and integrated themsuccessfully into the Automic platform to leveragebroader IT systems integrations and enable use ofother automation modules, including continuousdelivery and AIOps.

Its latestacquisition was Automic, with prior acquisitions including AutoSysWorkload Automation, ESP dSeries Workload Automation fordistributed platforms, CA Workload Automation CA 7 Edition, andCA Workload Automation ESP Edition for mainframe environments.CA Workload Automation iDash provides predictive analytics,forecasting, and reporting. Following the acquisition of Automic,CA established an Automation line of business. Going forward, thechoice of workload automation technology will be determined on aclient-by-client basis—with Automic Automation as the automationproduct for new customers. The other WLA products will continue tobe developed in line with customer-committed roadmaps.ARCHITECTURECA Technologies’ integrated automation platform spans physical,virtual, and cloud computing in supporting end-to-end business andIT workflows that cross applications. By managing and abstractingthe complex interdependencies that increasingly exist in moderndata centers, Automic Automation consolidates and simplifies ITadministration. Automic Automation automates IT processes thattraditionally require multiple areas or disciplines of automation.
