University of North Carolina at GreensboroRobin E. Remsburg, RN, FAAN, FGSA, FNGNA, PH.D.Dean and Professor, School of NursingDr. Robin E. Remsburg has been Dean and Professor ofthe School of Nursing at the University of North Carolinaat Greensboro since 2013. During her tenure, she has ledan ambitious strategic plan that has guided the Schoolof Nursing into a new era. Among the key componentshave been innovation and growth; technology and onlinelearning; groundbreaking research; and global citizenship.Several new programs have been established at UNCGreensboro under her leadership. Among them are theDNP program, an Adult-Gerontological Nurse Practitioner primary care program,and concentrations in MSN-to-DNP Executive Leadership and in Nurse Anesthesia.Previously, she served as Director of the School of Nursing and Associate Dean forthe College of Health and Human Services at George Mason University.Dr. Remsburg is a graduate of the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. Sheearned a master’s degree in nursing education at the University of North CarolinaGreensboro and a Ph.D. in nursing research at the University of Maryland.Students can earn the MSN degreewith a concentration in NursingAdministration or Nursing Education.Both concentrations are offered onlyin online format and are designed forworking registered nurses.The third option is an MSN/MBA degreein Health Management, which is jointlyoffered with the UNCG Bryan School ofBusiness and Economics and is offeredalso online.Having accepted its inaugural class in2005, UNCG’s Ph.D. nursing program isdesigned for students to practice as nursescientists who will advance the disciplineand nursing profession through scholarlyinquiry. The Ph.D. program currently has atotal of 44 students.Ensuring students and faculty areequipped with leading-edge learningand teaching tools, the University brokeground on a state-of-the-art facilityfor nursing instruction earlier thisyear. The School of Nursing, currentlylocated in four buildings, will occupyapproximately 50 percent of the new 105 million Nursing and InstructionalBuilding. Scheduled for completion in2020, the building will house 39 labs,14 classrooms, nine research suites, anda community engagement center. Italso will have physiology/wet labs andinterdisciplinary linkages on campus andexternally.In support of nurse researchers, theSchool of Nursing has a significantresearch infrastructure. Resourcesinclude a School of Nursing AssociateDean for Research, a Research Officethat provides both pre-award andpost-award grants assistance andmanagement, a statistician, anddesignated research workspace.Nursing students have access to morethan 500 healthcare sites where theynot only can gain high-quality practiceexperiences, but also can providehealthcare to groups who wouldotherwise have no healthcare. Notableamong these sites are a new immigrantclinic and five health centers located insenior housing developments.The School’s DNP degree programprepares graduates to analyze systemsof care and provide transformationalleadership that will improve patientsafety, quality of care, and implementevidence-based and culturally competentcare practices.
