The program is open to generic (basic)and RN students. The generic BSN program includes atrack for foreign-educated physicians who have previousknowledge and skills in the health care field. Upongraduation, generic students are eligible to write theNCLEX examination to become registered nurses.The Nicole Wertheim College of Nursing and HealthSciences also offers a Master of Science degree inNursing, a Ph.D. in Nursing, and Doctor of NursingPractice degree as well as selected continuing educationcourses.Program ObjectivesUpon completion of the BSN, graduates will be able to:

See a nursing advisor (305) 3487703 in the Office of Student Services for admissioninformation.Nursing majors are responsible for transportationexpenses related to clinical experiences. They arerequired to carry health and accident insurance. Tosafeguard the health of clients, nursing students arerequired to submit proof of health examination andimmunizations upon entry into the nursing program.Students must submit proof of basic cardiopulmonaryresuscitation (CPR) certification (American HeartAssociation) prior to entering clinical courses in thenursing major. This CPR certification must cover theperiod of enrollment in the major.The Florida Board of Nursing and clinical agenciesrequire the disclosure of arrest and conviction records formisdemeanors and/or felonies; therefore, this informationwill be required at the time of application. Applicants arerequired to submit to criminal background checks and drugtesting. Expenses associated with background checks anddrug testing (including repeat testing) are the responsibilityof the student. Findings may affect a student’s ability toparticipate in clinical experiences and complete theprogram, and/or obtain registered nurse licensure.In addition to undergraduate tuition and fees, nursingstudents may be charged a fee for courses with an “L”suffix for laboratory supplies.Students who request a transfer from another nursingprogram must provide a letter of good standing from thenursing program in which they were enrolled.The College reserves the right to terminate a studentfrom the nursing program for reasons related to theinability to safely carry out professional responsibilities.Note: The programs, policies, requirements, andregulations listed in this catalog are continually subject toUndergraduate Catalog 2018-2019review in order to serve the needs of the University’s andCollege’s various publics and to respond to the mandatesof the Florida Department of Education, Board ofGovernors, the Legislature, and other regulatory andaccrediting agencies. Please refer to the College's website forupdated information in nursing.Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN)Generic TrackDegree Program Hours: 124Admission RequirementsApplicants to the nursing major must submit an applicationfor admission to the University and must follow the regularUniversity procedures. Applicants must also complete anursing major application. Applicants must be admitted tothe University before admission to the nursing major.All admission documents must be submitted andcourses must be completed by March 15 preceding theFall admission. Students interested in the nursing majorshould contact the College to make an appointment withthe Office of Student Services as early as possible. TheCollege is located on the Modesto A. Maidique Campus,(305) 348-7703, or call the Biscayne Bay Campus for theForeign-Educated Physician to BSN track, (305) 9194421.The generic BSN track is a limited enrollment programand admission is competitive based on previous academicperformance. To be admitted to the program, applicantsmust:1. Have an overall GPA of 3.25 or higher, with norepeats in science courses due to failure;2. Have completed science courses within the past 10years;3. Have met all the lower division requirements includinga grade of “C” for all nursing pre-requisite courses;4. Completed 60 semester hours;5. Have met entry requirements for computation andreading skills; and6. BerecommendedforadmissionbytheUndergraduate Admissions Committee.A criterion-based point system is used for admissionevaluation of applicants to the generic BSN program.Contact an advisor for information on the point system.Applicants must apply by the published deadline to beconsidered for admission. Once a class fills, there are nodeferred admissions. Previous applicants who wish to beconsidered for admission in the next application cyclemust submit a new application, along with any supportingdocumentation.
