Primary condensate drainconnection on sleeves withsecondary overflow to buildingexterior All sleeves are shipped with aweather guard Flush type exterior architecturallouversFeatures/BenefitsCarrier’s 52V verticalpackaged unit offers designflexibility, quality, reliabilty, and multi-function controlsSolid-state circuit boarda52-1337Copyright 2009 Carrier CorporationThe circuit board incorporates the following control features:Evaporator coil low temperatureprotection protects the unit. Duringthe cooling mode, should the evaporator coil experience either a low temperature condition that could result inice build-up on the coil or a reducedairflow situation, a temperature sensorattached to the coil will deenergize theunit. The sensor will reenergize theunit when the coil warms up.Form 52V-2PD

Features/Benefits (cont)Low ambient lockout locks out compressor at ambient temperatures below40 F to extend compressor life.Random restart is used when poweris turned on after a power outage. Abuilt-in random restart (3 to 4 minutes)prevents all the compressors from restarting simultaneously.Compressor restart delay of 3 minutes ensures that system pressures areallowed to equalize before a compressor restart, which extends compressorlife.Front desk control allows the user,when the unit is wired to a front deskconsole, to enable or disable each unitfrom the front desk, thus saving the energy used to condition unoccupiedrooms.Fan delay allows the evaporator blower to continue running for up to45 seconds after the thermostat is satisfied. This feature maximizes coolingperformance.Ease of serviceA service pullout is factory installed forservice convenience and maintenance.Filter brackets and throwaway filterare shipped with each unit and are fieldinstalled over the unit’s evaporatorcoil. Filter size is 18 x 24 x 1-inch.Adjustable operationAn adjustable fresh air (manual) damper can be used to meet code requirements for fresh air introduction. Whenopened, the fresh air vent allows up to50 cfm of outside air to be introducedinto the equipment closet. The air thenmixes with return air entering the closet through the return-air grille. See Application Data section for moreinformation.Thermostat controlThe 52V unit is easily controlled by astandard low voltage wall-mountedthermostat instead of complicated unitmounted controls. Low voltage wiresare routed out the left side of thecabinet.Easy installationRear or side installation wall sleevesare provided for pre-installation. Whenready, the 52V unit is simply slid intothe sleeve and the ductwork and electrical are connected.The sleeve is weight-bearing and supports the entire weight of the 52V unit.2The sleeve provides a weather tightseal against wind and water infiltration.A 3/4-in. male NPT fitting is providedin the bottom of the sleeve for fieldconnection to a condensate riser.Four wall sleeve depths are availableto accommodate wall thickness from 5to 20 inches. Each sleeve includes afactory-installed weather guard tocover the sleeve opening duringconstruction.Unique sleeve drain condensate systemA factory-installed drain line connectsthe evaporator drain pan to a verticalpipe connection in the 52V basepan.Evaporator condensate is deliveredfrom the unit to a catch tray in the wallsleeve and exits the sleeve through the3/ -in. male NPT fitting.4This design allows the plumber tocompletely pipe the drain to a condensate riser during the pre-installationstage, thus decreasing the likelihood ofcondensate connection problems usually encountered when trying to connect the HVAC (heating, ventilation,and air conditioning) condensate drainto the riser after the HVAC unit is installed in the closet.This feature also allows the 52V unitto be removed for service without disconnecting the condensate piping.This configuration does not require anyadditional closet space to make thedrain connection, as do some competitive products.Redundant systemsIf for any reason the primary condensate riser becomes clogged, water willfill the catch tray and then be divertedthrough the sleeve to the exterior ofthe building, in a secondary system,rather than be allowed to overflow intothe closet or living area. Rain water entering the sleeve is automatically diverted to the building exterior as well.Return air optionsDuctable return air tabs are providedon the inlet of the evaporator coil topermit the connection of return airductwork if required by local codes.Please note that most installationswould not normally require ducted return air.Attractive appearanceThe new flush-style architectural louveris an attractive extruded aluminum architectural louver that attaches to theoutside face of the wall sleeve. Theblades of the grille recess into the wallsleeve for a neat, flush appearance.Louvers install from the inside of thewall sleeve. The 52V unit should notbe installed into the sleeve before installing the louver.Table of contentsPageFeatures/Benefits. . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . .1-3Model Number Nomenclature . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . 3Capacity Ratings . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . 4,5Physical Data . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . 5Field-Installed Accessories . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . 6Base Unit Dimensions . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . 7,8Accessory Dimensions . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . 9Performance Data . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . 10Electrical Data . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . .11-13Typical Wiring Schematic . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . 14Controls . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . .15,16Typical Installation . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . 17Application Data . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . 18Guide Specifications . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . .19,20

Field-installed accessoriesWall sleeves — Wall sleeves are available as a rear or sideinstallation. The wall sleeve can be installed during construction and the unit installed at a later time. The sleevecan bear the entire weight of the 52V unit and provides awatertight seal against wind and weather. The condensatedrain is built directly into the wall sleeve for pre-installationahead of the unit. Four wall sleeve depths are available toaccomodate wall thicknesses of 5 to 20 inches. A hurricane sleeve is available with a thicker, more durable construction for areas that may experience intense weatherconditions. Each sleeve includes a factory-installed guard tocover the sleeve opening during construction.Exterior grilles (architectural louvers) — The exteriorgrilles attach to the outside face of the wall sleeve and provide protection for the unit.6Interior panel — The interior panel is used for access tothe unit installed in the closet. The panel is available as alouvered panel or a solid panel. The solid panel will resultin lower sound levels. An external air grille and unit mountfilter are required. The louvered panel allows air return intothe closet to the unit and includes an 18 x 24 x 1-in. filter.Panels are shipped 10 per carton.Thermostats — A complete line of thermostats is available to meet any control requirements. Thermostats areavailable in both horizontal or vertical layout types. Bothcooling and electric/hot water heat thermostats (5 wire)and heat pump thermostats (6 wire) are available.
