General ApplicationsApple o-rings are available in a choice of six basic materials, each in a range of optional durometer (Shore A)hardnesses. Other materials available upon request.Buna-N/Nitrile: Buna N/Nitrilerubber is a copolymer ofbutadiene and acrylonitrile. You will find compounds thatare ideally suited for oil andfuel-resistant applications ofall types.Ethylene-Propylene: In theEthylene-Propylene family, youwill find compounds that areused extensively for outdoor,weather-resistant uses andwater applications. The firstchoice for low torque drivebelts.Silicone: In the Silicone family, you will find compounds thatare excellent as static sealsin extreme temperatureconditions.Neoprene : In the Neoprenefamily, you will find compoundswhich are the superior sealingmaterials for the refrigerationindustry featuring resistance toammonia and Freon .Fluorocarbon: In theFluorocarbon family, you willfind compounds that make upthe preferred seals for aircraftengines, automotive fuelhandling systems and hardvacuum service.Fluorosilicone: In theFluorosilicone family, you willfind compounds that makeup seals that are unparalleledfor aerospace fuel systemsand auto fuel emission controlsystems. All materials are compoundedunder stringent quality controlfor uniformity of physicalproperty, and to meetor exceed government, military, space program, automotive, F.D.A., industrialand commercial specifications. To Determine Material:1. Determine end use: static(stationary) or dynamic(moving).2. List the substance thatthe seal will be exposed toand check o-ring materialresistances in ChemicalCompatibility Table(s) listedin the Apple Seal DesignGuide.3. List ALL factors of sealapplication and checkmaterial performance.A. Pressure: determinesmaterial hardness andselection.B. Heat/Cold: check materialtemperature range(s).C. Friction: determinesmaterial hardness andselection.D. Permeability: importantfor pneumatic andvacuum applications.4. Medical applications: makesure an Apple representativeis aware if medical gradematerials are required. The most commonly used durometer is 70. Although other durometers are offered, availability may be limited due to processing or shrinkage s(Shore A)TemperatureRange**(Dry Heat Only)Description-40 to 257 F-40 to 125 CPresently the seal industry’s most widely used elastometer. Nitrilecombines excellent resistance to petroleum-based oils and fuels, silicone greases, hydraulic fluids, water and alcohols. It has a goodbalance of such desirable working properties as low compressionset, high tensile strength and high abrasion resistance.Ethylene-Propylene (EPM/EPDM)EP40 thru 90-40 to 275 F-40 to 135 CFeatures good resistance to such polar solvents as ketones (MEKand Acetone). EPM/EPDM is also highly recommended foreffective resistance to steam (to 400 F), hot water, silicone oilsand greases, dilute acids and alkalies, alcohols and automotivebrake fluids. Properly compounded, Ethylene Propylene canprovide extended temperature range of -76 F to 350 F.Silicone (Mq; Pmq; Vmq; Pvmq)SL25 thru 80-85 to 400 F-65 to 230 CEspecially resistant to high, dry heat in primarily staticapplications. Silicones are fungus resistant, odorless, tasteless,non-toxic elastomers and possess high-resistance to the agingeffects of both sunlight and ozone attack.Neoprene (Chloroprene) (CR)CR40 thru 90-40 to 250 F-40 to 121 CAn early developed, oil-resistant substitute for natural rubber,Neoprene features moderate resistance to petroleum oils, good resistance to ozone, sunlight and oxygen aging, relativelylow compression set, good resilience, reasonable cost and highresistance to attack by Freon and Ammonia.Fluorocarbon (Viton ) (Fluorel ) (FKM)VT55 thru 95-13 to 446 F-25 to 230 C una-N/Nitrile (NBR)BBN40 thru 90Fluorosilicone (Fvmq)FS40 thru 80-75 to 400 F-60 to 200 CCombines high-temperature toughness with wide chemicalagent compatibility, Fluorocarbon compounds feature excellentresistance to petroleum products and solvents and goodhigh-temperature compression set characteristics.Combines the good high and low temperature stability ofSilicones with the fuel, oil and solvent resistance of fluorocarbons.FS compounds feature good compression set and resilienceproperties. FS compounds are suitable for exposure to air, sunlight, ozone, chlorinated and aromatic hydrocarbons.*Please check the latest standard for current version. **The temperatures listed are general operating range.800.828.7745 (U.S. and Canada only) 716.684.6560 or visit applerubber.com

How to Determine O-Ring Size*Standard O-RingsEvery Metric ISO 3601 Size in Stock:Listed in millimeters. Includes allstandard Inside Diameters from0.74mm to 658.88mm, OuterDiameters from 2.78mm to672.86mm and cross sections (widths)from 1.02 to 6.99mm. Constantlyrestocked to assure immediatedelivery of any size in small and largequantities. For Sequence in Ordering:Fastest Delivery on O-Rings:Most likely the size and compoundyou require is in our stock of over300,000,000 o-rings. Immediateshipments with no intermediatedelays. (Remember – with Appleyou can buy direct.)1 Size (catalog number)2 Durometer and material3 QuantityExample:110 – 70SLR – 10,000(size – durometer, material and color – quantity)How to Order: The temperatureslisted are general operating ranges forthe entire family of each compound.Simplified Reference Easy to Order:All the information you need at aglance. All sizes listed by ascendinginside diameter (I.D.) in decimalsizes. Standard ISO 3601 UniformNumbering System (order bya single number). These will vary with specificcompounds and/or length ofexposure to temperature extremes. For example, silicone may still beserviceable with limited exposureto 300 C.We highly recommend that in allcases, samples of a specific size andcompound should be tested in theapplication before use in production.Choice of Six Materials as Standard:Rubber compounds and optionsof Durometer hardness to satisfypractically any service condition.Check with our sales staff for othermaterial needs.Outside diameter(O.D.) is forreference only.O-Rings arespecified by I.D.and cross section.Inside DiamterWidth (Cross Section)Apple Catalog Numbers are identicalto the ISO 3601 Numbering System, indicating precise I.D. and Widthdimensions of o-rings in oneordering number.* Shrinkage Size Adjustment: Various o-ringcompounds exhibit different shrinkage ratesduring molding. The normal o-ring sizes hereinshown are based upon a 70 Durometer Nitrilestandard.
