Student Commencement SpeakerMalia ArponStudent of DistinctionMalia Arpon is a Fullerton local and returning student. As a CommunicationsStudies major, her passion for all forms of communication have been thedriving force in pursuing leadership positions on campus. Arpon has devotedher time at Fullerton College to the Speech and Debate team, The Hornet,Associated Students, Phi Theta Kappa, Alpha Gamma Sigma, the HornetLeadership Program, the Women’s Soccer Team, and the Honors Program. However, Arpon holds her involvement with the Office of CampusCommunications as a Student Ambassador and with the North Orange CountyCommunity College District (NOCCCD) Equal Employment OpportunityAdvisory Committee as the Appointed Student Representative dear to her heart. Beyond FullertonCollege, she plans to take her experiences to San Diego State University in the fall. Her goal is topursue a Bachelor in Health Communications alongside the pre-veterinary route for graduate school.qStudent Commencement SpeakerWythenia CruzStudent of DistinctionWythenia Cruz is a first-generation reentry student, who started college afterraising her family. She went back to school to become part of the solutionrather than part of the problem.A Sociology major, she enjoys applying the lessons learned over the years, both in school and out of it. She approached every class as an opportunityto gain new information, grow in knowledge, and meet new and interestingpeople. During her time at Fullerton College, she was active in AssociatedStudents, serving as a Senator, Vice President of Senate, and Vice Presidentof Public Relations. She was awarded Student of Distinction for PersonalAchievement, Honors certification, and is a member of the Sociology Club, as well as the honorssocieties Phi Theta Kappa and Alpha Gamma Sigma.Having special-needs kids has taught her empathy. She believes that we all struggle, some just do itmore openly than others. Kindness does not take more energy than harshness, and it makes a hugedifference for so many. The pandemic has made empathy a precious commodity, and she encouragespeople to treat others with compassion.6Student Commencement Speakers
