It will also serve as a valuable education tool forthose entering the field of pediatric emergency medicine, pediatriccritical care, and disaster response medicine.Target AudienceThis program is directed toward physicians, hospitalists, advancednurses, transport teams, physician assistants, nurses and otherhealthcare professionals involved in pediatric critical care andemergency medicine.Purpose To prepare physicians, physician-assistants, nurse practitioners,and nurses for the first 24 hours of pediatric critical care untiltransferred or appropriate critical care consultation is obtained. To prepare non-intensivists to manage the acute deterioration ofcritically ill pediatric patients. To prepare pediatric, emergency medicine, and surgical housestaff for pediatric critical care medicine.ObjectivesUpon completion of this course, the participant should be able to: prioritize assessment needs for the critically ill or injured infantor child. select appropriate diagnostic tests. respond to significant changes in the unstable pediatric patient. recognize and initiate management of acute, life-threateningconditions. determine the need for expert consultation and/or patienttransfer and the optimal methodology accomplishing patienttransfer.
