Top Notch 2PronunciatorThe purpose of the Pronunciator is to remove doubts about the pronunciation of anyproper nouns that appear in the Summit Student’s Books but that are not heard onthe Class Audio Program; for example, names of people or places that appear ingrammar exercises or illustrative material. For each word, the Pronunciatorprovides both the audio of the pronunciation and the phonetic transcription.There are two ways to find a word in the Pronunciator:1. Select a level and type the word in the Search window. The word willappear in the Results window. Click on the word to hear the wordpronounced.2. Browse through the Pronunciator itself. Click on a word to hear that wordpronounced. The word also has the phonetic transcription next to it.The transcription, in the International Phonetic Alphabet [IPA], shows the commonpronunciation of the name in American English. When there is more than onepossible pronunciation of a name, only one is given as it will be commonlyrecognized and understood.
