FULL-TIME ministriesACTIVE DUTY AIR FORCEChaplains in the Active Duty Air Force serve full-timeand provide pastoral care to meet the spiritual needsof Airmen and their family members.COMMITMENTActive Duty chaplains incur an initial servicecommitment of three years. They are assigned allaround the world, from large statewide bases tosmall remote locations.PART-TIME ministriesAIR RESERVE AND AIR NATIONAL GUARDEnhance your full-time civilian ministry while servingthe spiritual needs of Airmen as a part-time chaplain.COMMITMENTTraditional Reserve chaplains serve one weekenda month (24 days per year) plus a two-week periodof annual training (14 days per year).Individual Mobilization Augmentees serve 12consecutive days of annual training along with 12individually scheduled weekdays scatteredthroughout the year.Air National Guard chaplains typically serve oneweekend a month (24 days per year) plus a twoweek period of annual training (14 days per year).There is a growing number of full-time Air NationalGuard opportunities.You have a religious calling.The Chaplain Corps has the answer.

GRADUATE LEVEL STUDENTS opportunitiesCHAPLAIN CANDIDATE PROGRAMExplore the Air Force Chaplaincy in an internshipstyle setting while you earn your Master of Divinityor equivalent graduate-level religious studiesdegree. Chaplain candidates are commissionedas second lieutenants in the Air Force Reserve.COMMITMENTAll chaplain candidate commitments take placeduring the summer and are designed to notinterfere with the school year. Candidates arecommissioned as second lieutenants in the AirForce Reserve. They can transfer to a TraditionalReserve, Individual Mobilization Augmentee, or AirNational Guard chaplain position upon successfulcompletion of the program.VOLUNTEER opportunitiesCIVIL AIR PATROL (CAP)Chaplains provide emergency services support,character education and ministry in CAP’s missions.COMMITMENTThe CAP Chaplain Corps is highly flexible — asmuch or little time as the Chaplain can give.There are no age restrictions and no medicalexam is required. CAP chaplains are unpaid andnot deployable.

AIR FORCE CHAPLAIN QUALIFICATIONS Be a U.S. citizen; dual citizenship is notauthorized. Possess a bachelor’s degree and a qualifyingpostgraduate degree in theology or relatedreligious studies from an accredited institutionwith at least two years of religious ministryleadership experience. Receive an ecclesiastical endorsement from aDoD-recognized faith group or denomination. Be less than 40 years old. Meet Air Force physical fitness standards. Pass a security background check and qualifyfor a security clearance. Complete the eight-and-a-half-week OfficerTraining School and four-week BasicChaplain Course.
