PATH TO SUCCESSThe Air Force Reserve Officer Training Corps ismuch more than a program. It’s a challenge and ajourney that will lead you on a path to success inthe U.S. Air Force and your lifetime endeavors. AirForce ROTC prepares you to become an officer,leader and a mentor to others while earning acollege degree.SCHOLARSHIPSWe offer scholarships that pay most tuition, booksand lab costs at more than 1,100 colleges anduniversities, including some of the most prestigiousinstitutions in the country.If you’re still in high school you can apply for thefour-year scholarship. If you’re already in college,you can join Air Force ROTC and compete fora scholarship that will help you complete yourbachelor’s degree.You can join Air Force ROTC even if you are not onscholarship. As a cadet, you will receive a tax-freemonthly stipend during your junior and senior years.The money is used to help offset living expenses.You are not required to sign a commitment of serviceobligation for active duty until your junior year,unless you are on scholarship. This allows you totry out Air Force ROTC during your freshman andsophomore years to see if it is right for you.

JOBS IN DEMANDAlmost every career that exists in the civilian worldis also found in the Air Force. Students earningtechnical and science degrees fill our greatestneeds and therefore, are among the most soughtafter. The length of your initial service commitmentdepends on your career.Most cadets make a four-year, active-duty servicecommitment. Pilots make a 10-year, active-dutyservice commitment and both Combat SystemOfficers and Air Battle Managers make a six-yearservice commitment.

While others may struggle in the job market aftergraduation, you will have a career waiting for youin professions like these:ENGINEERINGUse your creative and innovative thinking todevelop and use technology for Air Force projects.Specialties include aeronautical, astronautical,civil, developmental, electrical, mechanical andsoftware engineering.NURSEAs a nurse, you are an equal and vital memberof the Air Force healthcare team. From theemergency room to the operating room you doeverything from delivering babies to helpingdiscover breakthrough medical treatments.PILOTFlying the most advanced aircraft in the world isone of the many responsibilities of an Air Forcepilot. Your leadership skills are used to train andcommand crews to accomplish flying missions.SPACE AND MISSILE OPERATIONSYou operate and manage space and missileoperations systems including surveillance,intercontinental ballistic missile launch, spacelifts, ballistic space warning and satellitecommand and control.WEATHERThe Air Force depends on accurate weatherforecasting to chart safe flight paths. You integrateatmospheric and space weather conditions intooperation planning. You also conduct importantmeteorological weather studies and research.

COLLEGE LIFEAs an Air Force ROTC cadet, your collegeexperience is similar to other students with thesame classes and activities you would find on anycampus. The difference is in the elective coursesyou take. At some schools, your Air Force ROTCcourses may even translate into a minor inaerospace studies.Freshmen and sophomore cadets attend AirForce ROTC classes three hours each week,while juniors and seniors attend five hours.Everyone attends weekly leadership labsand physical training sessions, the only timesuniforms are worn.In between your studies and Air Force ROTCactivities, you can hang out with your friends,join a sorority or fraternity, play intramuralsports or participate in a number of collegesponsored events.During summer breaks, you can learn a foreignlanguage, learn to fly a glider, go parachuting,tour an Air Force base or attend a space missionorientation. These are just a few of the many AirForce ROTC opportunities that will help enhanceyour college experience and journey to a career asan officer.
