WelcomeFrom the Head of CollegeAt Mueller College, we see students differently. We strongly believethat deep down, every student wants to belong and every studentwants to learn.Based on this foundational understanding, Mueller is a school where we havebeen intentional about creating spaces where students feel part of a smallergroup of like-minded students.Mueller College is a Christian school. This doesn’t mean that we are perfect,in fact quite the opposite. It informs the brokenness around us and sees thatrestoration comes through an understanding of the Good News of Jesus Christ.I would like to welcome you to the Mueller Community and trust that during yourtime with us you will be challenged to grow spiritually, academically, socially, emotionally and physically.Paul ValeseHead of CollegeLet’s get started!3

Mueller is more than a school, it is a Christian Community. Across its rangeof work, Mueller Community Church cares for hundreds of individuals andfamilies every day.Where does the name‘Mueller’ come from?Mueller College is named after George Mueller.Born in 1805, George Mueller lived a complete life of faithand service. His most significant service was in the areaof education and the care of children. Throughout his92 years, he built five large orphanages and cared for morethan 10,000 orphans. His amazing faith was shown in thefact that he never asked anyone directly for money, insteadtrusted in God to put in people’s heart a desire to send himwhat the children needed. Not one of the 10,000 orphansever went hungry!Mueller College has also been a work of faith and service. We continue to rely on God for every blessing and lookforward to many more years of caring for and educating thenext generation.5

Teaching and LearningKnowledge has a beginning but no endIt is the conviction of Mueller College teachers that every student is capableof learning. And should do so wholeheartedly. While what learning looks like will bedifferent for individuals, it can and shouldstill be in the same forward direction for all.Indeed, it is the most basic obligation ofcontemporary schooling.Students at Mueller College will have theopportunity to learn the core Literacy,Numeracy and ICT skills and the contentmandated by the Australian Curriculum. They will also be able to access andacquire knowledge, capabilities andthinking skills relevant to a host of specialtyareas. We have a commitment to providinga breadth of learning to students acrossTechnology, The Arts, Health and PhysicalEducation, Science, Mathematics and6The Humanities disciplines. A specificfocus of Mueller College is that studentswill formulate an accurate understandingof God and His Gospel.Furthermore, Mueller College acknowledgesthat the future of work in Australia willrequire a public that is critical, innovativeand creative in its thinking. While thereis real benefit to developing deep andspecific content knowledge, the moderneconomy demands adaptive workerswho can shift and bend to meet theneeds of a changing world. These crosscurricula skills therefore, as well assubject specific material, are consideredwhen reflecting on student learning.

Academic AssistanceThe first place to receive any academic assistance is through the class teacher.Feel free to contact the teacher to discussyour child’s academic progress. The bestform of contact is via email. The besttime to meet with your child’s teacher(s)is at the Parent-Teacher Evening. This isimmediately after the Term 1 and 2 reportcard distribution.Primary schoolIt is difficult for teachers to meet at lengthwithout any notice. If you would like to havean extended discussion about your child’sprogress, it is best you pre arrange a timeand your child’s teacher is more than happyto meet with you.Secondary schoolAt the beginning of each semester, you willreceive an assessment schedule which willgive your assessment outline as well as yourteacher’s contact details. In the secondaryschool, there are also tutoring sessionsavailable during lunch and after school.Students can read about these on the dailynotices and are open to all students.TASS student portal also has links toimportant documents which will help youcomplete your assessment.Pastoral Care and CommunityMueller College wants to help students grow into healthy and functionalindividuals with a sense of positive self-worth.At school this means intentionally buildinga sense of community amongst the studentbody and valuing students for who they are. This approach flows from Mueller College’sBiblical foundation – namely that we believeeach child is an individual made in theimage of God with different God-given giftsand abilities that are worth celebrating andnurturing inherently.Furthermore, Mueller College hopes thatbuilding into students an appreciation fortheir innate value as human beings will spurthem towards Christian maturity. This entailsencouraging students to take for themselvesthe command to love one another graciouslyand generously, and make life choices thatreflect their fundamental worth and, as such, are in accordance with biblical teaching .Mueller College considers this to be a vitalcomponent of student well-being – studentsthemselves acting with respect, kindness andcompassion, all of which go into creating asuccessful and responsible citizen.7
