As detailed in the Training Calendar , theInstitute offers a broad range of programs in banking, finance and related disciplinessuited to the needs of today’s financial services professional. PROFILEThe Uganda Institute of Banking and Financial Services (UIBFS), formerly The UgandaInstitute of Bankers, is the leading provider of training for Uganda’s financial sector.Starting out in 1967 as a local centre of the then Chartered Institute of Bankers, London(now London Institute of Banking & Finance), the Institute attained autonomy in 1990.The Institute is a Body Corporate registered under the Companies Act (Cap 110) of theLaws of the Republic of Uganda as a Company Limited by guarantee. The objectives ofthe Institute are inter alia; to Promote, Encourage, Protect and Advance Knowledge andEducation in the Principles and Practices of Banking and Financial Services and toPrescribe and Inculcate High Ethical and Professional Standards Among its Members.The Headquarters of the UIBFS are located at Plot 10 Buganda Road, Kampala Uganda.The Institute is a Membership organization comprising of: institutional (or corporate)members, (which include Commercial Banks, Credit Institutions, Micro Deposit TakingInstitutions, and Development Banks operating in Uganda) and Individual Membersranked variously as Fellow, Associate, Ordinary and Student Members, all of whommake annual subscriptions towards the proper running of the Institute. The Governor ofthe Bank of Uganda is the Patron of the Institute.The supreme organ of the Institute is the Annual General Meeting (AGM), whichappoints the Council and the Board of Directors for governance and policy oversight.The Board is currently composed of ten (10) Non-Executive Directors; RepresentingCorporate Members, the Bank of Uganda and the rest of the members of the Institute.The Chief Executive Officer and Executive Director of the Institute are ex-officiomembers of the Board. The Institute also has a Council that performs a largely advisoryand supportive role currently comprising of 11 members.2
