October 2014 EditionBus Driver Day CelebrationsWhat a sweet treat to see and readabout all the honoring thingshappening around the State duringBus Driver Appreciation Day. TheCandyland/Candy Crush was betterthan a sundae with a cherry on top.The presentations by the studentswere taken to “new levels”. If thisday is any indication of theappreciation days to come, we aregoing to “crush” it this year!Below are the summaries by thecoordinators. Pull up to the table,put your napkin in your lap andprepare for your sugar levels tosoar!Anderson County.Anderson County Career &Technical - The A-Team prepareda breakfast for the Bus Drivers. Themenu was omelets made to orderwith toast and bacon, alsocantaloupe and monkey bread. Theyalso made several cards and postersalong with a goody box for each busdriver. They seemed to enjoy thecelebration very much.Click here to view the photos.Anderson County HighSchool - We made treat bags forour bus drivers. We also did thankyou cards. We delivered everythingto the owners of the bus lines andthey placed the gifts on their busbefore their morning run. Click hereto view the photos.Andersonville Elementary The Fourth Graders at AES had agreat time celebrating their busdrivers. Their grade level collectedcandy donations and wrote thankyou notes on candy cut outnotecards. On Wednesday a groupof students came together todecorate their goody bags, put labelson water bottles, and stuff thegoody bags full of their sweettreats. On Thursday each childexpressed their gratitude as theyboarded their buses. The icing onthe cake was when the studentsshared their goody bags. October 2014 EditionShowing Appreciation to Bus DriversClinton High School - For ourBus Driver Appreciation Day, theCHS Dance Team volunteered tomeet the drivers as the rolled in formorning drop off. The kids madesigns, thank you notes, and goodiebags. School-wide, students alsowrote thank you notes for thedrivers. The Dance Team girls got onthe busses to deliver the treats andnotes to the drivers. Click here toview the photos.Lake City Elementary - For BusDriver Appreciation Day, we had abanner and a bus cut-out forstudents to hold up as the busdrivers dropped students off in themorning. Three teachers stood withthem at the front of the building tolead the students in cheering for thebus drivers and saying thank you tothem. We also gave them studentmade pictures at that time. One ofour second grade classes came bythe cafeteria while they were eatingand hugged the bus drivers, saidthank you, and gave them cards theyhad made. Notes that students hadwritten to their bus drivers in theweeks leading up to bus driver daywere posted on the *“Attitude ofGratitude”* bulletin board in thefront of the school. The notes weretaken down and put into their bagsfor appreciation day. One fourthgrade class, led by the music teacher,also performed a program for thebus drivers while they ate.*The “Attitude of Gratitude” board isavailable for students to write thankyou notes to each other, teachers,and principals, and for staff to writenotes to students and each other. Thenotes are left on the board forseveral days so that everyone can seeour great Attitude of Gratitude. Thenthe notes are removed and given tothe students/staff to keep asreminders of how much othersappreciate them. This board is alsoused for our appreciation days eachmonth. Students and staff will writethank you notes for each employeegroup that we spotlight and the noteswill be available for all to see andthen removed on the appreciationday and given to each group. October 2014 EditionSweet Celebration of Bus DriversNorwood Middle School - Thebus drivers for Norwood MiddleSchool were greeted on the 11thwith bagels for breakfast! TheStudent Government Associationmade posters and presented themto the bus drivers before getting onthe bus that afternoon! Click hereto view the photos.Bells City Schools.Our bus drivers are so sweet so wehonored those drivers that makesure we all enjoy services theyprovide throughout the year, likebringing our friends to school safelyeach day and helping make sure weenjoy learning outside the classroomon field trips, too. While somestudents ride the bus to and fromschool each day and others may onlyride it for field trips and to specialevents, all students ride the busfrom time to time. For this reason,all students were aware of thespecial day and were encouraged tothank a bus driver for taking care ofus every day. A large thank youbanner from everyone at BellsElementary was displayed forafternoon bus arrival and all driversreceived a special thank you goodiebag. Click here to viewthe photos.Camden Elementary - Ourschool held the CandylandAppreciation Day on September 11.This gave our drivers, students, andstaff a bit of happiness on thissolemn Patriot's Day. Driversappreciated the treats and thanks.One driver said, "This really is agreat way to end the day!" Parentsvolunteered sweet baked goods, andone parent went to Pinterest andfound a template of a bus for awrapper! This year, we are gettingour businesses involved. October 2014 EditionHawkins County Honors Bus DriversHawkins County.Carter’s Valley Elementary - Wecelebrated Bus Appreciation a day earlyat CVES. We gave each bus driver aposter, candy crown, and treat bag filledwith a water bottle, chocolate bar, andcandy. Every student at CVES made acard for the bus drivers because theyrode the bus each day, or because theyhave ridden on field trips.We also made "lollipops" for eachdriver that read.WE LOVE OUR BUSDRIVERS!!!! Our Music teacher and3rd and 4th bus riders also sang to ourdrivers. We had posters all around thebuilding to remind students to thanktheir drivers.The lollipop signs were a big hit as acolorful, creative greeting! Ourmarquee says it all - "We love our busdrivers!" Ourstudents decorated plates for lollipopsand placed it in front of the school tolet the drivers know just how muchthey are appreciated. As they got onthe bus, they gave their bus driverscontainers of candy, a bottle of crushdrink, and also thru the month ofSeptember we have been giving thedrivers a bottle of cold water to keepthem cool.We want our drivers to know just howmuch we appreciate them keeping ourstudents safe as they drive them toschool and drive them back home!Click here to view the photos.Church Hill Intermediate - Wecelebrated Bus Driver Appreciation dayin delicious style. Bags of candy werecreated for each bus driver that comesto our school. October 2014 EditionCandy Crowns for Bus DriversChurch Hill Middle - Ourappreciation activities for our busdrivers at Church Hill Middle wentwonderfully yesterday!Our art department made a banner tohang outside the building for the busdrivers to see as they came in. Anotherclassroom made posters and had theirpicture made holding their work infront of our school sign.In the afternoon, the studentspresented their bus drivers with adecorated treat bag filled with goodies.Click here to view the photos.Clinch School - At Clinch wecelebrated the bus appreciation in a"sweet" way. Our middle school andhigh school students made posters andthank you cards for our drivers. Eachdriver was given a bag of goodies and abottle of water. Our drivers are thecandy to our crush! The students alsomade the bus drivers cards and candytreat bags. Click here for the photos.Joseph Rogers Primary - The nightbefore we used multicolored cups towrite, "We heart Bus Drivers" in ourfence that the buses pass by. Along bothsides of our drive, we placed largelollipops and candy canes to create"Candy Lane" as our drivers drove toand from school.We gave each of our bus drivers abreakfast bag with sausage biscuits andcheddar rounds donated by Pals. Wealso created cards for our drivers andhad each student that rides that bussign their name.We gave them "Good & Plenty" candyas a snack for being so "Good" to driveour buses and to tell them that we lovethem "Plenty". October 2014 EditionHawkins Drivers Receive Happy TreatMt. Carmel Elementary - Wecelebrated our sweet bus drivers in aCandy Crush fashion! Each bus driverwas crowned and given chains ofthanks.Our A-Team also wrote letters to thebus drivers with candy as part of themessage. Our school sign recognizedthe day and our fence was decoratedwith giant hard candies telling our busdrivers that we loved them.Click here to view the photos.Pathways Alternative School Here at Pathways we do not have busdrivers but here is a couple of picturesto show we still like to participate in allthe appreciation days.On that day, we ate meat balls,doughnuts, chips and dip, cookies, pizzapockets, popcorn chicken, pretzels andblueberry dip and soft drinks. October 2014 EditionSweet Treat for Bus DriversSurgoinsville Middle School - BusDriver Appreciation Day here atSurgoinsville Middle School was a greatsuccess. Through the efforts of manystudents and teachers, we were able toprovide the bus drivers with handmadeposters which were hung up outside forall to see as they drove by. Their giftconsisted of a bag full of candy, a waterbottle with drink mix attached andhand-written letters from studentsthroughout the school. The gifts werepassed out of the morning to each busdriver so that they knew how muchthose of us here at Surgoinsville MiddleSchool appreciate their hard work.Click here to view the photos.Volunteer High School - Wecelebrated Bus Driver Appreciation Daybright and early. Wehave 3 drivers for our school, and wehonored them with lunch from Zaxby'sand cookies. We had two sweet youngladies serenade our drivers. Ms. Lora,Ms. Lori, and Mr.Eddie said they enjoyedtheir day so much. It was nice sittingand talking with them about some oftheir adventures of driving our"goobers" around. October 2014 EditionSumner Drivers are LifesaversSumner County.HB Williams - Bus DriverAppreciation week at HB Williams wasspectacular! Our Kindergarten classeswere in charge of pampering thedrivers. The enitre school wore yellowto show their support! At the end ofthe day before dismissal, all 7 classesgathered in our meeting area for aspecial performance of ‘The Wheels onthe Bus’. Then each class presented all15 bus drivers and assistants with ‘Kingand Queen Candy Crowns’.Students brought up large cards madeby each class and a very specialhandmade baggie with water bottles anda candy bar. Our secretary and officestaff helped make baked goodies andone of the churches in the communitymany candy bags for every driver. TheA-Team and G-Force members, alongwith their classmates, decorated signsthat were hung throughout the school.Each bus driver was also presented withstudent illustrated envelopes that heldhandwritten notes of thanks from all ofthe bus riders. Click here to view thephotos.Howard Elementary - Wecelebrated our Bus Drivers andCrossing Guard by greeting each driverand presenting him or her with a handdecorated goody bag, a personalizedchain necklace, and a hearty thank you!Other students held a large banner andwaved to the drivers as they passed. Thestudents met the crossing guard in theoffice and appreciated her in the sameway. Prior to the day's activities, A-Teammembers met to create a bulletinboard, cut chain-necklace strips for eachclass to decorate, and create and fillgoody bags. Students madeannouncements on Tuesday, Wednesday,and Thursday in order to involve thewhole school in the effort. October 2014 EditionSweet Celebrations in SumnerLakeside Park Elementary Lakeside Park had a great Bus DriverDay. We made candy necklaces andbracelets from the whole school.We made candy signs and gave thedrivers chocolate bars and water.The A-Team worked very hard. Our new 2014-2015 A-Teamstudents met after school andcreated large Lollipops to say, "Welove our Bus Drivers!" Anothergroup of A-Team students createdand decorated a banner continuingthe theme of Candy Crush. Thebanner also said "We love our BusDrivers!" Our third grouping of ATeam members, helped by puttingtogether goodie bags filled withcandy. On Bus Driver AppreciationDay, our A-Team members metbefore school to celebrate ourfantastic drivers that help them getto and from school safely each day!Students created chants and cheersfor each bus as them pulled up todrop off students for school. BusDrivers opened their doors to hearand see the love and appreciationour students feel for them.G-Force members got each classexcited about Bus Driver Day byhaving them give their drivers lettersas their tokens of appreciation. Thecandy and goodie bags were donatedby parents and teachers at ourschool. Several bus drivers got offtheir buses to receive their goodiebags and take pictures with thestudents. Our Director ofTransportation for Sumner Countyhappened to be filling in on a busthat morning. She got to stop by andsee what great appreciation thestudents at SCE have for their busdrivers and their hard work! It was atruly wonderful day expressingappreciation for others! October 2014 EditionConfections of Affections for DriversBeech Elementary- The ATeam started the year celebratingthe bus drivers with a candy crushtheme. They wrote thank youletters, put together goody bagsand made signs to honor the busdrivers who get them to schooland home each day safely. LongHollow Baptist Church also joinedwith the A-Team to honor thesespecial people by providing a greatbreakfast from Chick Fil ANorth Sumner Elementary The fourth grade teachershonored the bus drivers for themonth of September. We used thetheme of "Candy Crush" to make abulletin board display for thewhole school to see. We also hadall the grade levels make the busdrivers cards to show ourappreciation. Once all the cardshad been made we divided up our4th grade students and had thempersonally deliver the cards andtreat bags to the drivers whenthey arrived at the school atdismissal time. Wepresented them with a bag ofassorted candy. We also held upthe signs we made telling the busdrivers how much we appreciatethem.
