November 2018NSA/CSS Evaluated Products List forPaper DisintegratorsOVERVIEWDevices included on this list have passed evaluation by meeting requirements set by the NSA/CSS forthe disintegration of paper with notations to those devices also approved to destroy punched (key) tape,and CDs. Meant to serve as guidance, inclusion in this document is not an endorsement by the NSA/CSSor the U.S. Government.QUALIFICATIONS FOR APPROVALThe NSA/CSS established the following performancerequirements against which these disintegrationdevices have been tested: The device must reduce paper and/or punchedtape to an edge size of 3 millimeter by 5millimeter, or less.Testing protocol includes the timed destruction ofmixed storage devices.Devices that meet NSA/CSS sanitizationspecifications for the following storage devicesare identified with the following approval ratings:P PaperK Key (punched) tape (plastic or paper)C CDsEquipment is listed in alphabetical order by vendor.Alternate or previously used retail names appear inparentheses.Models that are no longer manufactured but stillapproved are included.WHAT YOU NEED TO KNOW1. This list serves as guidance for thedestruction of paper storage devices,and identifies devices also approvedfor the destruction of paper/plasticpunched (key) tape and CD opticalstorage device format. For storagedevice specific equipment, refer to theNSA/CSS PM 9-12 Storage DeviceSanitization Manual.2. It is recommended to mix paper withCDs during destruction.3. Devices within this document areNOT authorized for DVD or BDsanitization.4.Each device offers differentconvenience features, footprints,throughput rates and powerrequirements.
