I am excited to begin my fourth year at this greatschool. Prior to coming to Lean, I was the principal atCromie Elementary School for three years. I spent myfirst 10 years as the principal at Harwood Elementary School. I am excited to be a part of thePearl Lean learning community. I am looking forward to working with the students, families andstaff as we continue to make Lean a great place to learn. The Lean Staff and I are extremelyexcited to get this new school year started.I am extremely proud to lead Pearl Lean Elementary School. We have a tremendous staff thatcare deeply about the well-being of all of our students. STUDENTS ARRIVING EARLYPlease make sure not to drop-off your child before 8:30 A.M.,because of the security system the front door WILL NOT open till 8:30A.M.STUDENTS ARRIVING LATEIf your student arrives after the tardy bell (8:52 A.M.) YOU need tosign them in at the office.STUDENTS LEAVING EARLYParents who call and ask that their child be ready in the officefor pick up: STUDENTS WILL REMAIN in class until you physicallyshow up in the office and sign them out, then we will call theclassroom. NO EXCEPTIONS.The office WILL NOT call the classroom after 3:30 PM forany dismissal: If you need to pick up your child early, PLEASE DOSO BY 3:30 PM, since it’s hard to get hold of either the students or theteachers after 3:30 PM.ALL after school plans should be made at home before yourchild leaves for school. STUDENTABSENCE/CANCELLATION OF BUSSTOPIf your child is the onlystudent assigned to a stopand he/she is absent, pleasecall the Transportation Office at 825-2960 andlet them know so that they can tell the drivernot to make the stop. If there is no one at thestop for three (3) consecutive days andTransportation does not receive a call to cancel,the stop will be put on “Will Call” and the bus willno longer stop there. You will have to call theTransportation Office to resume pick-up.Also, please call 825-2960 if you need toreach the dispatcher regarding your bus runninglate. The dispatch phone is answered dailystarting at 6:00 a.m. until 5:00 p.m.ARTICLES LEFT ON THE BUS:If your child leaves an item on the schoolbus, have them check with their driver the nextschool day. Most items will be kept on the busfor several days so that students may claimthem. Items such as purses, musical instrumentsand expensive articles will be removed from thebus and held in the Transportation Office ortaken to the school office by the bus driver.Please have students at their designated busstop ten minutes before their scheduled time.LATCHKEY INFORMATIONThere are several changes to the Latchkeyprogram this year. Latchkeyregistration must be processed beforestudents can begin.MEDICATION POLICYWe must follow the WarrenConsolidatedSchoolDistrict'spolicy of administering medication.MedicationCANNOTbeadministered to students withoutthe proper form (Request for Administration ofPrescribed or over the counter Medication toStudent), filled out and signed by the child'sdoctor. This form is available in the schooloffice.WE MUST HAVE A NEW FORMFILLED OUT EVERY YEAR EVEN IF YOURCHILD RECEIVED MEDICATION LAST YEAR.The office CANNOT give out aspirin, coughmedicine, antibiotics, or any other medication. Ifyour child must be on any of these during schoolhours, you must make arrangements to have anadult come and administer it to your child.Students CANNOT carry or administer theirown medication.WARM WEATHER DRESS CODEClothing that is consideredappropriate for the beach, picnics,etc. is not considered appropriate dressconducive to learning. Children cannot wear:Halter tops, short shorts, spandex (bike)shorts/shirts, tank tops, cut-off jeans, shirtswith beer logos or suggestive messages.If the temperature is expected to be above75 , shorts may be worn if the length extends tothe child’s fingertips!

CAFETERIA NEWSSee the monthly calendar oflunch selections which are senthome with the newsletter at thebeginning of each month. It is alsolocated on the district website,www.lunchapp.comThe cafeteria does not allow students toborrow lunch money. Parents may pre-pay by theweek, month, etc. by paying for meals with cashor pay online at www.sendmoneytoschool.com.This service is free to all parents. We will NOlonger accept personal checks.Free & Reduced LunchApplicationsApplications for free / reduced lunches areenclosed in your packet. They are also availableonline at www.lunchapps.com. The response timeis 1-2 days for an online application and severalweeks for a paper application. Applications needto be completed each year for each family.BACKGROUND CHECKAUTHORIZATION FORMIt is the policy of WCS to secure criminalconviction history information as mandated byMichigan state law for public school employeesand volunteers. If you plan to volunteer for anyevent (i.e., field trips, PTO events, classroomhelper, library assistance, etc.) Be prepared andmake sure your Background check form has beenturned in.
