A couple of fine Charolais steers from Michael Vooght of Hennock ran to a decent 1733(730kg x 238ppk) and 1656 (728kg x 228ppk) with further well covered Charolais bullocks to 1646 (696kg x237ppk) for Nick and Margaret Lugger of Modbury. A solid looking Simmental steer from David Slade ofChagford reached 1677 (744kg x 226ppk) with best British Blue steers making 1567 (724kg x 217ppk) forKeith and Hilary Harvey followed by a lighter Blue from Joe Stoneman and Family of Sampford Courtenay at 1344 (566kg x 238ppk). Aberdeen Angus steers drew 1560 (698kg x 224ppk) for David Slade and Friesianbred types returned 1511 (718kg x 211ppk) for DJ & SJ Mills of Lapford. Heavy heifers totalled to 1484 (612kgx 243ppk) for Adrian and Bradley Bowden of Drewsteignton with a Limousin whilst a Blonde female off the samefarm rose to 1394 (580kg x 241ppk) and a British Blue sold to 1442 (634kg x 228ppk) for Nick and MargaretLugger. 1134 CULL EWES, 41 CULL RAMS/WETHERS & 2 GOATSA similarly large number of cull ewes, rams and goats were another strong trade with some pens again lookingas dear as we’ve ever seen them, but a large proportion of medium weight lean and plain ewes forward maybea pound or two less. Top money to 259 for a pair of Texel ewes from Jack Winzer of Loddiswell, more Texel’sat 232 and 198 for Jacob Chugg-White of Offwell and 197 for both Rich Berry of Kenn and Adrian & JulieBowden of Drewsteignton. Charollais ewes to 212 for a pair from Ken & Joyce Pleace of Cullompton andCharollais crosses looking very well sold at 194 for Willie Hill of Stockleigh Pomeroy. Lots of ewes from 170to 190 with Mules dearer this week, touching the 150 barrier on a few occasions and the bulk of the fleshedPrime Lambs to 86 & 180ppkCull Ewes to 90 & Rams to 99Mules trading 130 to 142 whilst a high number of working lean Mules were 95 to 120. A large proportionof hill ewes today, all of which were in their working clothes but the bulk look well sold from 75 to 95.
