THE ALDOUS STORYThe Aldous order capture application (ALDOUS OES) maximizes the Telecommunications ServiceProvider’s (Telco’s) ability to sell their whole range of products in the consumer, enterprise andgovernment marketplace. ALDOUS allows a provisionable order (a “Clean Ticket”) to be captured often in a single customer interaction.ALDOUS OES covers all channels, including the direct channel which allows high value customers toplace orders through a self-service web interface without any involvement from the technical salesforce. “Cross Channel Complete” allows an order to start via one channel and be completed viaanother.Needs analysis ensures that customers are presented with the best products and configuration tomatch their needs. Product configuration capability guarantees that for both simple and complexproducts a “clean ticket” is submitted to order management. The “clean ticket” enables rework to bereduced to less than 5%. As many Telcos have more than 50% rework, this represents a massive costsaving. Service delivery time is also drastically reduced leading to a lower cost of sale, an increase inrevenue velocity and higher customer satisfaction.ALDOUS OES natively presents users with up-sell and cross sell recommendations as well as bundledetection or near-bundle detection to maximize product and services exposure. This drives increasedARPU and customer retention. All order types are supported with pre-built templates available for many products, including (but notlimited to) Mobile Solutions, MPLS based IP-VPN, IP TV, PSTN and Broadband.ALDOUS OES enables use of the “as-sold” representation of a customer’s installed base inconjunction with contractual data and “as-built” information (if available) from the network inventorysystems to produce valid MACD orders.ALDOUS OES is a data driven, J2EE application using eTOM and SID processes and models.Application maintenance is performed directly by the business, enabling Telcos to significantlyincrease speed to market for new product introductions.Multi-channel capability, customer self service, clean tickets, MACD, pending orders and its constraintsbased rules platform, combined with a business process engine, make ALDOUS a highly valuable andunique proposition.Call CentreRetailSales ForceCustomers -wwwDirect web access to OESPortal access to OESALDOUS PLMALDOUS OESProduct Lifecycle ManagerOrder Entry SystemALDOUS OFMSOrder Fulfillment Management SystemBillingProvisioningWorkforceALDOUS ConfidentialIVRB2B PartnersWeb Services OES accessCRM/CISOther SystemsInstalled Base& InventoryOther SystemsPage 2 of 10

ALDOUS MODULESALDOUS ORDER ENTRY SYSTEM (ALDOUS OES)ALDOUS’ OES module allows a Telco to provide comprehensive quotation and order creationcapabilities to internal staff, partners and customers. ALDOUS OES functionality supports bothsimple and complex products. ALDOUS OES provides the means to select and configure productsthat have been made available in catalogues generated and maintained in ALDOUS PLM. Theconfiguration process is driven by a combination of a constraint based rules engine and businessprocess engine which enforce all the logic and workflow associated with configuring and pricingproducts and services. The result is that even the most novice of users can create orders without therisk of making mistakes that may lead to incorrect or unprovisionable orders. To cater for the requirements of different channels, ALDOUS OES can be implemented in a Portal,Direct or Web Services (“headless”) model. The Direct implementation is primarily used by internal users or resellers involved in thepreparation and handling of quotations for multiple customers. The Portlet based implementation is ideal for providing external customers with the capability topurchase and maintain products themselves. The Web Services implementation provides a facility to drive product selection and configurationthrough IVR or similar systems without rich user interfaces.ALDOUS PRODUCT LIFECYCLE MANAGER - PLMALDOUS’ PLM module is an easy to use web-based data maintenance application used for creatingand maintaining product definitions (both technical and commercial) as well as associated pricing andproduct catalogues. ALDOUS OES is updated by changing data in ALDOUS PLM as opposed tomaking programming changes.ALDOUS PLM also maintains non-product data used throughout Aldous and incorporates a serverapplication which manages the process of publishing data from the product developmentenvironment through to the production ALDOUS OES.ALDOUS ORDER FULFILLMENT MANAGEMENT SYSTEM (OFMS)ALDOUS’ OFMS module provides the capability to transform product-orders output fromALDOUS OES into the service order(s) required to activate the provisioning process for the productson the order. This includes translation of products into one or more customer and network facingservices along with the workflow required for orchestration of service orders. ALDOUS OFMS tracksthe status of orders.ALDOUS CISFor Telcos that do not have an existing CRM system. ALDOUS includes a lightweight (but extensible)Customer Information System (CIS) that models customer, contact, account and site information.ALDOUS PRODUCT INVENTORY MANAGER – PIMFor Telcos that do not have an existing installed product inventory system(s) ALDOUS includes aProduct Inventory data store used to store SID based details of products purchased by customers.ALDOUS ConfidentialPage 3 of 10

ALDOUS FEATURESMulti-ChannelALDOUS OES can be accessed by all channels including self-service, retail, call centreand direct sales.ALDOUS OES provides the flexibility required to support order entry across all saleschannels. This is achieved by supporting web services, JSR-168 portlets and traditionalstandalone web application interfaces.Cross ChannelCompleteAlthough the interface may vary between channels, ALDOUS OES supports the startingof an order in one channel (eg self-service), continuing it in a retail store (dealer) andthen finally completing the order via the call centre (CSR).AdaptabilityALDOUS has been designed to be adaptable. Additional business rules can be addedeasily or existing rules easily changed ensuring the system remains flexible to the Telco’schanging requirements.Guided SellingALDOUS enables marketing staff to create “Solution Finders” which assist users inselecting a product that meets their needs.Solution Finders utilize ranking and filtering algorithms as well as scripted and intelligentforms to guide users to the appropriate product recommendation.Solution Finders can be embedded in the product configuration process.BundlesALDOUS helps prevent customer churn by making it easy to define and sell productbundles.ALDOUS supports simple product offering bundles where the bundle is a predefined setof product offerings as well as configurable bundles.Configurable bundles differ from simple bundles in that the component productofferings may be selected by the user at order-time. The rules governing mandatoryand optional components configurable within the bundle are defined in data.Bundle &Bundle-BreakDetectionALDOUS OES automatically recognises and alerts the user when the product offeringbeing configured, combined with existing installed products, matches a bundled productoffering. During a Move/Add/Change transaction, ALDOUS OES can recognise where achange will result in the breaking of an existing bundle and highlights this to the user.Up-Sell to abundleALDOUS OES helps improve the average revenue per customer (ARPU) by recognizingpartial bundles and promoting the additional products that may provide the customerwith the benefits of a bundled product offering. The partial bundles may be acombination of the customer’s current installed products and the product beingconfigured in the current transaction.Cross-sellALDOUS OES provides context-sensitive product cross-sell suggestions based on thecontents of the shopping cart and existing installed product details. Cross-sellcombinations are defined in the ALDOUS PLM moduleMACD SupportMove/Add Change/Delete (MACD) transactions for both existing installed productsand in-flight orders can be managed within ALDOUS OES.MACD RulesALDOUS OES supports transaction specific product configuration. ie the rules relevantto the instance of the installed product are taken into account when creating the MACDorder.ALDOUS ConfidentialPage 4 of 10

MACD FeesALDOUS OES determines any relevant fees based on the transaction type and changesbeing made to the current product.MACDOrder OutputALDOUS provides flexibility in terms of how the resulting changes are represented interms of order output for integration with downstream systems.NetworkDiagrammerNetwork diagrams incorporating site, CPE and network infrastructure productcomponents are able to be automatically generated. These provide users with an easyto understand visual representation of their network product configuration.DocumentGenerationDocument generation capability is in the form of read-only PDF, XML and Excel files.Business ProcessManagementALDOUS incorporates a business process management (BPM) engine which drives theworkflow and notifications associated with the quote/order approval processes.ALDOUS ensures that documents contain content based on defined business rules. Forexample: terms and conditions specific to selected products are included.Enforcement of pricing adjustment rules and financial approval processes ensuresconsistency and accuracy of pricing.Enforcement of technical approval rules ensure that any technical sign-offs on ordersare undertaken as required in the order process. This ensures that products requiringskilled technical review don’t get submitted for provisioning without the requiredapprovals.AdaptiveMandatoryFieldsIt is not uncommon for orders in a Telco to be unprovisionable due to insufficientinformation being provided with the order. Aldous OES eliminates this problem with itsrules-driven, dynamic forms capability. Users are only presented with fields relevant tothe current state. Mandatory fields vary according to business rules andproduct/process access is restricted based on factors such as user, channel and role.UIPersonalizationALDOUS OES supports “skins” allowing a different look and feel to be defined fordifferent channels, customer types or even individual customers.Dynamic MenusMenus adapt dynamically based on context, user role and process state.PortletsJSR-168 compliant portlets are provided for integrating Order Entry capability into aPortal.Product toServiceTranslationProduct orders output from ALDOUS OES are transformed into service order(s)containing customer and network facing services suitable for downstream provisioningsystems. This includes service orders required for network activation and billinginitiation. The rules-engine capability in ALDOUS helps minimise any issues preventingprovisioning by ensuring that the correct service orders are created up front.Service OrderOrchestrationComplex products may result in multiple service orders being generated with varyingorchestration processes needed to ensure the correct sequence is followed in order toaccurately provision the customer’s services. Orchestration processes are driven byALDOUS OFMS’ workflow and business-rules engines ensuring consistency andaccuracy.ResourceSchedulingALDOUS OFMS provides the capability for integration to resource-reservation andresource-scheduling systems ensuring that capacity to deliver the required service isavailable.ALDOUS ConfidentialPage 5 of 10

INTEGRATIONALDOUS OES relies on external data sources, including service qualification, productinventory, and credit check, to retrieve real-time information to support the salesprocess. ALDOUS provides support for making external requests to OSS and othersystems in the BSS domain. This information is used during product configurationsessions and to drive workflow.Examples of these integration points include:Integration PointDescriptionCRMRetrieving of customer information including Customer,Account, Contact and Site informationInstalled ProductRetrieving the customer’s installed product information(SID:Product). Physically this may be stored in the samesystem as customer data, however Aldous separatesthese concepts allowing each to vary independently.Service QualificationTo determine the technologies available at specificlocations (Sites)Workforce ManagementTo help customers/users identify resources todeliver/install equipment and book resourcesCredit CheckDetermines the customer’s creditworthiness with regardto their ability to pay for the item and any ongoingservicesIdentity ManagementStandard authentication and authorisation capabilityResource ManagementAn interface for reserving/booking a physical resource(for example a phone number, IP Address, Username)Order ManagementOnce a clean ticket is established and the customer hasaccepted the quote then the product order can be sentto the downstream order management system forfulfilment.Where possible these integration points adhere (conform) to industry standardspecifications such as the TMForum’s OSS/J and SID initiatives and align with eTOMprocess models.ALDOUS can be integrated with leading CRM, ERP, OSS, BSS and BPE packages as wellas other specialized applications such as credit checking, workflow systems andmessaging applications.ALDOUS provides multiple flexible interfaces to support integration includingfunctionality to provide transformation of ALDOUS data to external formats. The mostcommon approach to integrating with existing systems is via an Enterprise ApplicationIntegration (EAI) or Business Integration (BI) layer using applications such as IBM’sWebSphere BI or BEA’s WebLogic Platform.ALDOUS ConfidentialPage 9 of 10

THE ALDOUS VALUE PROPOSITIONCOST REDUCTIONBy exposing the business rules up front at the user interface level, ALDOUS dynamically removesinvalid options from the choices available to end users ensuring that only provisionable orders aregenerated and activated. Order accuracy with ALDOUS tends towards 100% and removes the needfor manual verification by service delivery teams, eliminates order rework, shortens the sales processand can dramatically accelerate service activation.ALDOUS’ user interface is intuitive and in conjunction with the business rules reduces the technicalknowledge required by the end user (sales person or end customer on a self-service portal). Thisallows the ratio of Technical Sales Engineers per Sales Person to be drastically reduced and providessignificant reductions in the total “cost of sale” for the Telco.ALDOUS’ self-service portal technology is also accessible to high value customers as their ownbranded management access into their own product catalogue with their own price books andnegotiated SLAs. This enables a Telco to have a permanent sales presence within their corporate andgovernment customers. In such situations an order can be placed and activated without a singleintervention from sales personnel, giving end customers a real sense of “zero touch provisioning”.REVENUE MAXIMISATIONBy significantly reducing the sales process and service activation time, ALDOUS enables a Telco tocapture usage based revenues earlier. More accurate and responsive order capture, includingleveraging knowledge of the customer’s existing products, coupled with the ability to easily cross selland up sell, increases revenue as well as minimizing churn. In addition revenue typically lost throughunbundling can be more easily recaptured providing revenue assurance.ALDOUS facilitates increased speed to market with new products and services and associated bundles.SPEED TO MARKETALDOUS is built from the ground up for Telcos using industry standards definitions, processes andmodels. ALDOUS is an accelerator for Telcos offering 70 to 75% out-of-the-box functionality for ordercapture and allows for rapid iterative and modular implementations.ALDOUS is built on open technologies and fits all architectures and transformation stages deliveringROI even as the Telco’s long transformation program is running. ALDOUS provides functionality toperform MACDs around “as-sold” inventory vs “as-built” inventory and hence does not have to beconnected to network inventory systems to deliver complete functionality.Utilizing the concepts of the TeleManagement Forum SID model and the power of a constraint engine,ALDOUS is a data driven application which allows the business to create, maintain and manageproduct data and rules using the web based, user friendly ALDOUS PLM Product LifecycleManagement module.www.aldous.comALDOUS ConfidentialPage 10 of 10
