2. If JSCC Admissions and Record Services have already posted your general education coursework using an “ELEC”course prefix, you may request a course review by submitting a complete Request for Transfer Course Review Form.Obtain instructions along with the form from the Nursing Division Office.Policies Related to Program Admission and EnrollmentAccreditation and professional certification standards, limited clinical and classroom space, faculty availability, and aconcern for appropriate student progress influence the selective admissions process to all Tennessee Board of Regentsnursing programs. Students must meet the admission criteria, be reviewed and accepted for admission, and makesatisfactory progress in order to continue their enrollment in the nursing program. Enrollment in the program is limited.Applicants with a grade of D, F, or W in another collegiate-level nursing program may be eligible for admission if thegrade(s) was earned in only one term and the applicant’s eligibility to re-enroll in the nursing program in which thesegrades were earned can be verified. If an applicant has earned grades of D, F, or W during more than one term, they areineligible for admission unless: 1) Academic Fresh Start status has been granted prior to the application deadline, and 2)verification that all previously earned nursing course grades of D, F, or W were unrelated to student clinical performanceor academic misconduct is obtained from the dean/director of the program in which they were enrolled. Academic FreshStart status does not negate a record of nursing program dismissal due to clinical performance or academic misconduct. In the employment of admission criteria in the review of applicants, Jackson State is cognizant of the institutional goal ofmaintaining appropriate student diversity in its acceptance pool. Because Jackson State is a state-supported institution,in-state residents are given preference in the admission process.Enrollment and Retention CriteriaStudents admitted to the program must comply with specific requirements to enroll and progress in the program. Criminalbackground checks and drug/alcohol screens may be a requirement at some affiliated clinical sites for training. Based onthe result of these checks, an affiliated clinical site may determine not to allow your presence at their facility. This couldresult in your inability to successfully complete the requirements of this program. Additionally, a criminal background maypreclude licensure or employment. Enrollment and retention criteria are published in the Nursing Student Handbook, which is on reserve in the college library, and is provided to each admitted student. Enrollment and retention criteriainclude, but are not limited to: completion of requirements for clinical placement with affiliate clinical partners, specifically a minimum age of 18,satisfactory drug screen and criminal background check, documentation of health, TB screening, and completion ofMMR, Varicella, TDAP, Hepatitis B and COVID-19 immunization series; additional immunizations and/or healthscreenings may be required for placement in a clinical agency; full disclosure of college enrollment at other institutions and submission of official transcripts; achievement of a minimum grade of C in all required coursework and completion of all nursing courses within 150%of the prescribed program length; certification in Healthcare Provider, Basic Life Support from the American Heart Association; verification of good standing and eligibility to return to and enroll in any prior nursing programs from the dean/directorof the program in which they were enrolled; achievement of core performance standards, course and program student learning outcomes; and daily access to a computer equipped with functional webcam & microphone and reliable personal internet service(not public access). Laptop loans are available from the College.Professional Licensure DisclosureJackson State Community College is accredited by the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools Commission onColleges (SACSCOC). As a member institution of the Tennessee Board of Regents, the college is regulated by theTennessee Higher Education Commission. Students who complete the program of study requirements will meetcurricular requirements to apply for nurse licensure in Tennessee. Requirements for other states may vary. If you currentlylive in a state other than Tennessee or you intend to use the education completed at Jackson State Community College toseek professional licensure in another state, be aware there may be additional requirements for obtaining licensure.Contact the Board of Nursing in the state where you intend to seek licensure regarding requirements in that state.Transfer ApplicantsStudents seeking approval of transfer of credit from another nursing program must:5

Effective July 1, 2011, unless exempted bylaw, any student enrolled in a higher education institution who is a health science student expected to have patient contactshall present proof of protection against hepatitis B before patient contact begins. Students admitted in the JSCC nursingprogram begin clinical rotations providing direct patient care contact as early as the first week of nursing courses;therefore this requirement must be completed by deadlines listed to enroll in the program. The vaccine requires a seriesof doses.Post-vaccination testing is not mandatory but is the only means to verify immunity. According to the Center for DiseaseControl (CDC) post-vaccination testing for immunity is necessary for persons who received vaccine in the buttock, persons 50 years old, HIV positive persons, and persons on dialysis.Applicants for the summer 2022 class must provide documentation which verifying the final dose of the vaccination seriesby May 1, 2022 to enroll in nursing classes for summer 2022. It is recommended that within 1-2 months after the finaldose of the vaccination that each student submit for serologic testing (titer) to evaluate immunity. Although this is not arequirement (unless you meet one of the conditions listed by the CDC (see above), it is the only way to document ifimmunity has been acquired or if additional vaccines are advisable.Varicella (Chicken Pox) Immunization RequirementEffective July 1, 2011 all higher education institutions will also require proof of immunization against Varicella (chicken pox)of all students born after 01/01/1980. All nursing students, regardless of age, must provide documentation of immunizationto varicella prior to program enrollment. For purposes of this paragraph adequate immunization is defined as:a) A complete varicella vaccine series (2 injections) with the first dose no earlier than 4 days before the 1 st birthdayand the second dose at least 28 days laterb) Laboratory evidence of immunity or infection (serology of titer positive)COVID-19 Immunization RequirementAcademic requirements of the program include achievement of performance competencies in real-world clinical settingssuch as hospitals. Program clinical affiliate partners have established several requirements before permitting students, faculty and other personnel to participate in clinical experiences at their site. One of those requirements is to providedocumentation of vaccination/immunization against certain infectious disease. The clinical affiliate partner requires theCOVID-19 vaccination for all students, faculty and other personnel participating in clinicals at their facilities. As a result, students must document completion of the COVID-19 vaccination process, including any waiting period following the lastrequired dose by May 2, 2022 to be eligible for NUR 130 clinical placement. The clinical partner may permit exemptions forappropriate medical conditions and sincerely held religious beliefs. Instruction regarding the process for requesting anexemption from the clinical partner will be made available to students admitted to the program. Individuals should knowthat COVID-19 vaccination requirements, as well as whether to admit an individual to a facility, are those of clinical partnersand not the College or program.6
