INMAN, KANSAS 67546May 2020From the AdministratorWe are blessed to say – We are still COVID free at Pleasant View Home!At the time of this writing, individuals throughout our community haveheard that the “stay at home” order will be lifted as of May 4. This willfeel like a positive step forward, in putting some of our COVID-19 fearsbehind us. Some may wonder about how that effects the residents atPVH – the answer is – not much. Due to the high risk of COVID spread infacilities, we will continue to protect families, residents, and staff. Our staff will continue to wear face masks at all times, and our residentswill be asked to cover their nose and mouth when staff are present intheir room. If we should have a positive case our staff will be in full PPE.We will continue to screen and take the temperatures of all staff andhealth care workers at the door. We check our residents for temperatureand symptoms twice a day. Hand hygiene is important for all.www.pleasantviewhome.comWeb Site(620)585-6504FaxPhone(620)585-6411Inman, Kansas 67546Marilyn StufflebeanDirector of NursingPaula MillerDirector of MarketingChief Financial OfficerTod Ritcha108 North WalnutPERMIT NO. 9PAIDP.O. A Prayer Box is available forresidents, staff, and friends to submit Prayer Requests. The box is locatednext to the water fountain, near the south entrance. The Chaplain’s PrayerTeam will check it daily, and pray for these requests.Chaplain’s ArticleLuke 12:15, 22, 23 NIVThen [Jesus] said to them, “Watch out! Be on your guard against all kinds ofgreed; a man’s life does not consist in the abundance of his possessions” .Then Jesus said to His disciples, “Therefore I tell you: Do not worry about yourlife, what you will eat, or about your body, what you will wear. Life is morethan food, and the body more than clothes.”The news concerning the coronavirus is scary. The reality is this: Theworld is experiencing a pandemic; and there is no remedy to the problem yet.The best antidote that we have to this date is cleanliness (wash your handswith soap and water), face masks, and social distancing. We are rightlyconcerned; we see and listen to the news; and it is grim. Thus, we pray thatthis terrible virus won’t “touch” us, nor our loved ones and friends; and we arethankful to the Lord that we are no more affected than we currently are.The effects of this pandemic not only concern our health, but also ourfinancial welfare. The economic prospect for the American public is gloomyindeed. Some believe we have entered into an economic depressioncomparable to that experienced during the Great Depression of the 1930s.Governors have “shut down” non-essential businesses in their respectivestates; there is hardly an area of business today not adversely affected. On a personal level people in retirement (and their children) see thenegative reports of their 401K and IRA assets. The news is depressive! What todo? Listen to the Lord Jesus again: The people He spoke to were poor, livingday-by-day, with no retirement accounts, barely making out a living. Jesus tellsus to trust Him; He will take care of us. He loves us too much not to provide forour needs. Hear His words again: “Consider the ravens. They do not sow orreap yet God feeds them; and how much more valuable you are thanbirds!” (Luke 12:24)In an effort to protect PVH residents and friends, no chapel will be heldin the month of May. We are saddened about this; we miss chapel, just asmuch as many miss the Sunday worship gatherings. To enhance your personalworship experience, I encourage you to listen daily to Christian radioprograms, especially those with good Bible teaching and uplifting spiritualmusic. As you read the Scriptures, ask the Lord to help you keep the“heavenly” perspective. In the past month the following have expired to receive their eternalreward: 1) Roy Nachtigal on March 27; 2) Laurene Reimer on April 1; 3) MaryMeyer on April 14; 4) Esther Nikkel on April 14; and 5) Glenn Carey on April 23.May the comfort of Scriptures encourage the hearts of those left behind.

Boosting Our Immune System During the COVID-19Crisis and BeyondWe have seen the importance of a healthy immune system throughout theCoronavirus crisis. A central player in the fight against the coronavirus isour immune system. It protects us against the virus. But sometimes it canturn against us. White blood cells, antibodies, and other components, including organs and lymph nodes, make up the body's immune system.Your immune system helps protect your body from foreign or harmfulsubstances. The age-related decline of immune function is generallyassociated with an increase in susceptibility to infections as well as inincidence of autoimmune deficits in older adults. People who have a weakimmune system can take several steps to maximize their chances ofstaying healthy and avoiding infections.Practice good hygiene. It is important to wash hands frequentlyincluding before, during, and after preparing food; after blowing thenose, sneezing, or coughing; after treating a cut or another openskin wound; and after having contact with someone who is unwell.Manage your stress levels. Stress can weaken the immune systemfurther and make a person more susceptible to illness. Practicesthat may reduce and manage stress include yoga; meditation; andspending time pursuing your favorite hobbies.Get enough sleep. Lack of sleep disrupts the normal production ofwhite blood cells, a crucial component of the body's immunesystem. Adults should aim for at least 7-8 hours of sleep per day.Eat a healthful diet. Eating a healthful, balanced diet can improve aperson's overall well-being. For people with a weak immunesystem, a diet that is rich in vegetables and fruit, which will provideplenty of nutrients is recommended.Exercise regularly. In addition to strengthening the body, exercisecauses the body to release endorphins that reduce stress levels. Those with weak immune systems should be careful not to pushthemselves too hard as this can weaken the immune systemfurtherHow can Therapy help? Seeking professional advice to analyze your uniquehealth situation can often result in simple solutions to boost your immunesystem. WALNUT COURTMAY 2020We are trying to adjust to our new “norm” by staying inour rooms or at least 6 feet away from our friends, andBarb is doing great at keeping us active in our rooms. Wehave been trying our hands at painting sun catchers andmobiles, and Fannie Mae has even tried her hand atnumerous jigsaw puzzles. We sure are missing our family and friends visiting us,though. Esther made a surprise video call to hergranddaughter, Michelle. It seemed they both enjoyed thequick chat. Please feel free to call us and we will be glad toassist your loved one with the phone call. We are even setup to FaceTime or Zoom chat with you.COVID-19 may have stopped us from seeing our friendsand family up close and to some even in person, but onething is for certain, COVID-19 has not stopped us fromspending time with our Lord and reading his word. Wesnapped a picture of Carolyn and Barb working on dailychronicles together. We are also continuing our daily Bibletrivia question and earning our activity bucks. We haveadjusted to Barb writing the questions on paper versuscoming to the dinning room to read the board. The Biblequestion at the time of this writing comes from Exodus3:12, Where did Moses see the burning bush?April Blessed us with serval Birthdays. Esther, Ellen, andTennie celebrated their birthday on the 10th. Barbcelebrated her birthday on the 20th, and last but not leastGeri celebrated on the 28th. It’s a good thing we love cake! Our family lost a member, as Esther joined our HeavenlyFather on April 14th. We will miss her and her familydearly.Walnut Court Staffbarb@pleasantviewhome.com

For others it’s a great way to pass anafternoon.I want to let all families know that weappreciate your understanding as wehave had to deal with many changesgoing through this COVID-19 time.Changes keep coming, and we now areall wearing masks at all times. Thesepictures are from earlier in the month.Gretchen and I are playing “Shut the Box”and it’s really fun! It’s good for one to fourplayers, and it makes you rely on your mathskills. It is fun to see all the homemade cardsthat continue to appear at our doorstep!Children and adults have been super creativeand colorful with cards and pictures forrandom acts of kindness to ourresidents. Amalia received a packet of cardsfrom her church friends at Apostolic FaithTabernacle.Ray’s family, Steve & Mary, drove all the way fromWichita to stand outside of his window with signsjust to show their love and support for him! That’sthe kind of families we have here. Anna GraceFlickinger’s family went another route andprovided oodles of finger foods for the definitelyhard-working staff. Those smiles are NOT fakenews, and we appreciated their kind gesture somuch! Ima has been using FaceTime to keep intouch with her family along with other residentsdoing the same thing.
