leadershipKRISTIN MCMILLANPRESIDENT & CEOast month, Las Vegas Metro Chamberleaders traveled to Washington, D.C. on theannual trip to Capitol Hill to work on issuesimportant to Nevada. We met with Nevada’sCongressional delegation, key members ofCongress outside of Nevada, policy groups and individualswho are shaping major public policy issues. It was theChamber’s largest and most diverse delegation to date,with three very full days of meaningful discussions onmajor policy and economic issues that impact our region,business community and future.LThe Chamber's priorities were well defined and providedthe basis for robust and dynamic dialogue with some ofthe nation’s most influential members of Congress andtheir staffs, and public policy organizations. Key prioritiesincluded funding for Interstate 11, continued opposition tothe transportation and storage of nuclear waste at YuccaMountain, revising the Homeland Security Formula,increasing Nevada’s share of federal grants, advocatingfor the passage of the JOLT Act to bolster internationaltourism, and improving workforce development.While in Washington, the Las Vegas Metro Chamberalso hosted the inaugural Las Vegas Night Receptionon Capitol Hill. More than 500 attendees, includingCongressional leaders Nancy Pelosi and Steny Hoyer,various members of Congress, Congressional staffersand trade associations, spent the evening celebrating thespirit of Las Vegas in our nation’s capital. It was a proudmoment for our participating Chamber members, as wellas the representatives of local and state government whoaccompanied us on the trip, not to mention our electedfederal leaders from Nevada.
