Desperate for help, I waspraying about the situationone morning and I beganto repeat what I’d heardsomeone else say one time.I began to cry out over andover, “Oh God, send thepower just now! Oh God,send the power just now!Oh God !”At the time I thoughtit was a perfectly goodprayer. But as soon as Iquieted down a little bit,The LORD interrupted me:Kenneth! He said, Where amI going to get it?“What do You mean,LORD?” I asked.Well, you’ve been cryingto Me all morning aboutsending you power. Wheredo you think I’m going toget it? I’ve already filled youwith My own Spirit. I can’tturn to someone else nowand say, “Kenneth needsmore power.”A fter giv ing me amoment to think aboutthat, He then went on tosay something else thatshook me to my core.He said, Son, I could havefilled you with an angel. Ihave some very sharp, verypowerful angels. I couldhave created some being thatnever existed before to comeand empower you. But Ididn’t trust you to an angel,or any other created being. Idon’t trust you to anyone butMe—and I’m going to tellyou something: I’m all youneed. Now just go do what Itaught you to do.Talk about an awakening!When God said that tome, He changed my wholedirection of thought for therest of my life. He redirectedmy attention so I was nolonger looking for power tocome to me from out yondersomewhere. I was lookingfor power to come from theOne who is in me.That’s what God wantsall of us believers to do!He wants us to becomeincreasingly God-insideminded. He wants us to bethinking all the time, everyday—God is in me, andgreater is He that is in me,than he that is in the world!Why does He want usto think that way? Becausethat’s how Jesus thoughtwhen He was on the earth.He never prayed, “God,send down the power!” whensomething supernat ura lneeded to be done. Hesimply put His faith in thepower of the Father whodwelt within Him. He didwhatever the Father toldHim to do, and the Fatherdid the works (John 14:10).You can see a goodexample of this in Luke 5,where Jesus ministered tothe man who was sick withthe palsy. You’ve probablyread about that incident.The man’s four friendscarried him to one of Jesus’meetings believing he wouldbe healed, and when theycouldn’t get through thecrowd they tore off partof the roof of the houseThe devil will never recover from whathappened to him at the Resurrection.He lost everything that day.B VOV :7
where the meeting was taking place.Then they lowered their palsied friend“down through the tiling with hiscouch into the midst before Jesus”(verse 19).What did Jesus do when He lookedup and saw that man being loweredthrough a hole in the ceiling? He simplylooked at the man (with a big smile onHis face, I’m sure) and said, “Your sinsare forgiven!” Then He turned to thepeople in the crowd who were wonderingwhether He had the authority to dothat and said: “What reason ye in yourhearts? Whether is easier, to say, Thysins be forgiven thee; or to say, Rise upand walk? But that ye may know that theSon of man hath power upon earth toforgive sins, (he said unto the sick of thepalsy,) I say unto thee, Arise, and take upthy couch, and go into thine house. Andimmediately he rose up before them,and took up that whereon he lay, anddeparted to his own house, glorifyingGod” (verses 22-25).Not Just a Bolt Out of HeavenA lot of Christians read about thatmiracle and think it happened becausesome invisible bolt of divine power cameout of heaven that day. They think Godjust picked that man out of the crowdand sovereignly decided to heal him.But according to the Bible, anyone atthe meeting could have been healed thatday. If they’d believed and acted on TheWORD they were hearing, everyonethere could have received just like theman with the palsy did, because Luke5:17 says, “the power of the Lord waspresent to heal them.”Where was that power? It was on theinside of Jesus. It was flowing out fromwithin Him because God was in Him.“Yeah, but Brother Copeland, thatwas Jesus!”I know it. But He said Himselfthat we, as believers, can operate thesame way. He declared to His disciplesbefore He went to the Cross, “He thatbelieveth on me, the works that I doshall he do also; and greater works thanthese shall he do; because I go unto myFather” (John 14:12).That’s how the apostles in the earlyChurch were able to do so manyamazing things! It is why, as Acts 5 says:“By the hands of the apostles were manysigns and wonders wrought among thepeople. Insomuch that they broughtforth the sick into the streets, and laidthem on beds and couches, that at theleast the shadow of Peter passing bymight overshadow some of them. Therecame also a multitude out of the citiesround about unto Jerusalem, bringingsick folks, and them which were vexedwith unclean spirits: and they werehealed every one” (verses 12, 15-16).“Yeah, but Brother Copeland, onceagain you have to remember those werethe apostles. They were special!”Certainly they were, but that’s notwhy the miracles happened. Theyhappened through faith in the Nameof Jesus (Acts 3:16). DID YOUKNOW?because the apostles were doing whatJesus had taught them to do and—just asin Jesus’ earthly ministry—the power ofthe Father was doing the works.Where did the power of the Fatherthat produced those works come from?It came from inside the apostles.
