The Noles have been ranked in 127consecutive polls by USA Softball.Florida State was picked to win the ACC in the preseason coaches poll. Florida State received eight of 13first place votes and was selected to win the ACC for the ninth straight season.The Seminoles had two student-athletes named to the preseason All-ACC team. Sydney Sherrill andKathryn Sandercock were selected to the 14 person team. It marks the fourth straight season thatSherrill was selected to the preseason team.FSU returns all but five starters from the 2021 team that was six outs away from winning FSU’s secondfast pitch national championship.Florida State earned five ranked wins at the St. Pete/Clearwater Elite Invitational. FSU went 5-0 on theweekend becoming the third team to go unbeaten at the Invitational, joining UCLA in 2020 and the 2019Florida State team.Florida State earned their first no-hitter of the season on February 20 against No. 24 UCF. It was the 30thno-hitter at Florida State under head coach Lonni Alameda.Florida State started the season on a 19 game winning streak. That winning streak was the fourthlongest in program history and second longest under head coach Lonni Alameda. FSU won 25 games in1992, 22 games in 2019 and 21 games in 1993.Florida State has found some pop in their bats against this season as they have combined for 20 homeruns, six triples and 28 doubles.AGAINST THE OPPONENTS»Florida State is 65-26 all-time against Georgia Tech. Spectators better look out for unidentified flyingobjects.» She was named the ACC’s Player of the week after the St. Pete Clearwater Invitational after shehit three home runs, one each against Texas, UCF and UCLA.» In the Unconquered Invitational Edenfield hit two more, including one that almost reached theparking garage in left field.FLAHERTY FINDING HER SWING» Junior Devyn Flaherty has been getting her swing off this season, hitting a team leading .446. Thiscomes after hitting .281 a season ago and .333 during her freshman campaign. Flaherty also leadsthe team in runs scored (21) and stolen bases (9-for-10).KERR BACK AND HEALTHY» After only playing in four games her freshman season before tearing her ACL, Jahni Kerr is backand stronger than ever. She had two home runs in four games her freshman year.» This season Jahni has two home runs, six doubles, and two triples, while leading the Seminoleswith 19 RBI. She has six multi RBI games, including three against Loyola Chicago (2/12) andOakland (3/2).SANDEROCK LEADS SEMINOLE PITCHING STAFF» Kathryn Sandercock has picked up where she left off a season ago when she was named an NFCASecond Team All-American.» Through the first four weeks of the season Sandercock is 10-0 with a 1.10 ERA. She has allowedjust 10 runs in 57.1 innings of work.» She was named the ACC Pitcher of the week after the second week of the season when she went4-0 with a 0.97 ERA and a save. She earned wins against South Alabama, No. 9 Texas, No. 24 UCFand No. 3 UCLA, while earning her first save of the season vs. No. 16 Michigan. She allowed just tworuns in 15.2 innings.» She was named the ACC’s pitcher of the week for the second straight week after going 3-0 with a0.00 ERA against FAMU, Indiana and Hofstra.» She is holding her opponents to just a .165 batting average and has walked just three batterswhile recording 54 strikeouts.» Last season Sandercock finished with a 27-4 record while recording a 1.25 ERA. In her career sheis 59-5 with a 1.55 ERA. She also has seven saves.WATSON PROVIDING A 1, 2 PUNCH IN THE CIRCLE» Danielle Watson has given the Seminoles a 1, 2 punch this season as she is 8-1 through the firstfour weeks of the season.» She has a 1.10 ERA and 62 strikeouts in 51 innings of work. She is holding her opponents to just a.154 batting average.» Danielle Watson had a career day during FSU’s 3-0 win over Hofstra (Feb. 25). She came away witha career high 11 strikeouts, including six straight outs off of strikeouts. Watson only allowed onehit as she pitched a complete game.» Last Season Watson went 12-2 during her first season with FSU. She finished the season with a2.63 ERA and 98 strikeouts in 93.1 innings of work.AMAYA ROSS A SPARK IN THE LINEUP» Since earning her first career start against Hofstra, Amaya Ross has impacted the Seminolelineup. Maybe one of the fastest players to ever play softball at Florida State, Ross has alsoshowed some power at the plate, recording two home runs to go along with a triple. She iscurrently hitting .357 in 14 at bats and has stolen three bases this season.» Ross comes from an athletic family. Her dad Gerard Ross played football at Florida State and in theNFL for the Seattle Seahawks. Her cousins Keith Ross and Lamar Lewis also played football at FSUwhile her other cousin JC Flowers played baseball for the Seminoles and currently plays for thePittsburgh Pirates.ST. PETE/CLEARWATER ELITE INVITATIONAL DOMINANCE» Florida State became the third team to finish the weekend in Clearwater unbeaten, joining UCLAin 2020 and the Seminoles team from 2019. Florida State outscored their opponents 32-9 comingaway with five ranked wins. The Seminoles earned a combined no-hitter against No. 24 UCFdefeating them 8-0 in five innings.» After the weekend Kathryn Sandercock was named the NFCA and ACC Pitcher of the Week. Shewent 3-0 and had a save as she helped the Noles defeat No. 9 Texas, No. 16 Michigan, No. 24 UCFand No. 3 UCLA. Sandercockhas record 54 strikeouts in 57.1 innings allowing only nine earned runs.» Combined, the FSU pitchers have 144 strikeouts in 136 innings of work while allowing theopponent to hit just .174.TEAM POWER RETURNS» The Noles have hit for power during the first four weeks of the season. They combined for 20 homeruns, 28 doubles and six triples in 20 games. Nine different players have hit home runs, includingfirst career home runs by Kaley Mudge, Michaela Edenfield, Brooke Blankenship and Amaya Ross.Mack Leonard hit her first home run as a Seminole.» Michaela Edenfield is slugging .820 off of seven home runs and two doubles. Ross is slugging .929after hitting two home runs and a triple in just five career starts.TRANSFERS IN THE LINEUP» Mack Leonard started all 21 and Bethaney Keen has played in 12 games, starting in 9 of them atfirst base. Leonard is tied for the team lead with a .446 batting average with three home runs, onetriple, three doubles and 14 RBI with 12 runs scored. She has a slugging percentage of .696 whilegetting on base 55.1 percent of the time. Mack has reach base in each of the first 21 games thisseason.» BK is hitting .235 with one double, six RBI and three runs scored.» Mack earned her first inning in the circle at Florida A&M, recording two strikeouts against theRattlers. She has pitched three innings, recording five strikeouts.SC TOP-10» Kalei Harding showed off her cannon of a right arm against Loyola Chicago to gun our the runnerat third from the right field line. WATCH HEREKALEI HARDING BACK FOR MORE» Kalei Harding returns for her sophomore season after a stellar freshman season in which she wasnamed to the All-ACC Freshman and Third Team.» She started in 58 games while playing in 60 of the Noles 63 games in 2021. She finished theseason with a .278 batting average, 10 doubles, three triples and six home runs. Harding cameto Tallahassee as a catcher but showed her versatility, playing mostly in the outfield while alsoplaying as a corner infielder.» Harding showed off her arm strength during the Women’s College World Series last season ingame one against Oklahoma. WATCH HERE» Harding did it once again against Furman throwing out the runner at third. WATCH HERE» So far in 2022 Harding has 14 RBI and is hitting .296. She came up big in the FSU’s game againstNo. 3 UCLA with a walk-off double in the eighth inning.MUDGE MAKING THE MOST OF STARTING» Kaley Mudge started just eight games before starting the final 14 games for the Seminoles inthe postseason last year.
