The top returning hitter in the lineup is Logan Lacey, who hit .295 with 10 home runs and 39 RBI’s last season.- The pitching staff is anchored by Preseason All-Americans Parker Messick and Bryce Hubbart, with Messick the reigning ACCPitcher and Freshman of the Year. Messick went 8-2 with a 3.10 ERA and led the team in innings pitched (90.0) and strikeouts(126).SCOUTING THE DUKES- JMU comes into the season-opening series after finishing 11-17 a season ago. This will be the first ranked team the squad has takenon since the opening weekend of the 2020 season, and the highest ranked team since the 2019 season.- The Dukes return four of their top five hitters from last season, led by Chase DeLauter. DeLauter carries a 16-game hit streak and a24-game reached base streak into the opening game. Carson Bell, Kyle Novak, and Travis Reifsnider join DeLauter as the only .300hitters returning.- The pitching staff returns all but two who tossed an inning last season. Donovan Burke returns after leading the team in strikeouts(38) and wins (four). McNeese OutstandingPro Prospect Award and was later named the winner of the D1BaseballSummer Breakout Prosepct Award.- After winning a summer championship in the Valley Baseball Leaguewith the Strasburg Express, Donovan Burke went up to the Cape andplayed as part of the Brewster Whitecaps. He picked up his secondchampionship of the summer after helping Brewster win the Cape title.- Joining Burke as a late call up to the Cape was Nick Stewart, who hashad previous experience in the Cape.
