In the heart of the Red River Valley, East Grand Forks produces an abundance of grains, sugarbeets, and potatoes each year.Recreation is available at many state park systems within a one-hour drive. The neighbor across the Red River is Grand Forks, NorthDakota which includes the Grand Forks Air Force Base, Alerus Center, Ralph Engelstad Arena and University of North Dakota.There is a Grand Cities population of 57,000 with a surrounding area population of over 80,000. The Grand Forks International Airportis only five miles away.Downtown East Grand Forks has been completely revitalized through a new urban development program that features the historicWhitey’s, Blue Moose, Cabela’s and other new businesses that serve the community.7

Thief River Falls is alsolocated on the Pine to Prairie Birding Trail, and only 21 miles from the largest wildlife refuge in Minnesota. Whatever your interest- biking, camping, golfing, snowmobiling, skiing, river fishing, tubing, hunting, or just plain relaxing - it can be found in and aroundThief River Falls.Thief River Falls has a small-town atmosphere with safe, friendly neighborhoods, affordable housing, excellent medical care, aswell as a variety of shopping, restaurants, hotels, and employment opportunities for students.Thief River Falls is the regional center for manufacturing, healthcare, retail and is also home of the Ralph Engelstad Arena- ThiefRiver Falls.Until 1904, an Ojibwe village of 40 families was located where the Thief River and Red Lake Rivers meet. This is the current siteof the Thief River Falls campus.8

122290 Northland.qxd8/31/0510:11 AMPage 8Students FirstNorthland Community and Technical College caters to the needs of students.A variety of services are available, and they are all free.9 The Career Placement Offices assist students and graduates with current job listings, trade newsletters, internet job searches,as well as résumé application preparation. The Counseling Departments offer professional counseling to aid with academic, career and personal concerns. The Learning Centers provide an excellent and friendly environment for tutoring and study labs; these are available for allstudents in all subject areas, as well as providing reasonable accommodations for students with documented disabilities. The Learning Resource Centers provide a wide variety of instructional materials, equipment and services tostudents and faculty. The Multicultural Diversity Offices have a strong commitment to serving students of diverse cultures, and offer supportand assistance to our diverse student population. The New Venture Center on the TRF campus and the Equity Coordinator on the EGF campus are resources providing advocacyand support for students in nontraditional career fields, single parents, displaced homemakers, and single pregnant women. The Wellness Center on the TRF campus features free weights, cardiovascular machines and other equipment. Plus, there areopen gym opportunities, tennis courts, baseball and softball fields, basketball courts, intercollegiate athletics, intramural sportsand scenic trails. On the campuses, the gymnasium, student commons and cyber cafes are available most weekends. The NCTC-TRF “Discovery Place On Campus” childcare center is located on campus and provides licensed day care for childrenwho are at least sixteen months old through six years of age.

NorthlandCommunity and Technical College offers a variety of diverse programs that may have you broadcastinglive on the College radio station, racing to the scene of an accident to perform life saving skills, orhelping a child learn to read.In Northland’s renowned allied health programs, students work in hospitals, clinics and nursing facilities around the region toreceive state-of-the-art hands-on training.Northland serves the booming construction industry with programs in architectural technology, carpentry, construction electricity,heating, ventilation and air conditioning, and plumbing technology.Through Northland's Liberal Arts program students have the opportunity to complete their Associates in Arts degree. The program includes the first two years of most bachelor’s degrees and is designed for transfer to a four-year institution.NCTC also boasts partnerships with such distinguished businesses as Northwest Airlines, American Airlines, Arctic Cat, Digi-Key,Altru Health Systems, Forx Builders Association, Polaris Industries, and many more. College is not only classroom time, NCTCincludes on-line, ITV and evening classes, and has satellite sites in Roseau, Moorhead, Brainerd, Virginia, Duluth, Hibbing,Perham, International Falls, Detroit Lakes, Wadena and Bemidji.13

Northland offers intercollegiate sportsfor both men and women, including: men’s golf, football, basketball and baseball, and women’s golf, volleyball, basketball and softball. Athletic facilities are located on the Thief River Falls campus. Both campuseshost a number of intramural sports and activities with something for everyone.15
