Connecting business and communityoutlook newsSeptember/October 2020MONADNOCK REGION RECOVERY CAMPAIGNA Multi-Year Branding & Marketing Campaignto Recover from the COVID Pandemic and Revitalize the Region’s Economyknow the quality of life is extraordinary,yet the region is little-known outside ofthe immediate area.In 2018 a group of local stakeholders,led by the Greater Keene Chamber,began to assemble a plan to promotethe Monadnock Region of NewHampshire.To address a longstanding need foreconomic development in the region,the plan called for a multi-year, multiplatform branding and marketingcampaign to attract visitors, workers,students, retirees and young familiesto this great part of the world – withextraordinary physical, culturaland commercial attributes andopportunities.Recovering from COVID-19The COVID-19 pandemic interruptedthis effort in 2020 before the necessaryfunds could be raised from localsources. To help the region recoverfrom the severe economic crisis weare currently experiencing, the projectis needed now more than ever. Theinitiative’s leadership, chaired byJamie Trowbridge, CEO of YankeePublishing, is a nearly twenty-personWe have significant competition fromother regions in New England and theNortheast, which diminishes the abilityof the Monadnock region to flourisheconomically.The task force believes that a concertedbranding and marketing effort, over time,can bring the Monadnock region into thespotlight it deserves, attracting peoplewho come to work, play, study and thrive.task force representing many of thearea’s largest employers, educational andhealthcare institutions and businessesfrom Peterborough, Keene and manyother communities.The task force has pressed on, by seekingthe funding for the campaign fromgovernment grants and partnershipsmade available for the primary purpose ofpandemic recovery – matched in part bycontributions from regional businesses,organizations, municipalities, andfoundations.A Dynamic but Little-KnownDestinationWe’ve been very pleased with the levelof community and business support forthis pivotal initiative. Chamber NewsLeadership Monadnock:2020 Wrap Up and Looking Ahead to 2021The Chamber’s Leadership Monadnock cohort met on August11th at the Keene State College Camp on Wilson Pond for the firstin-person session since March – outdoors, socially distanced andmasked.Speakers addressed current events in our area and included PhilWyzik of Monadnock Family Services, Mayor George Hansel,President Melinda Treadwell of Keene State College, Rob Malayof SAU29 and Lisa Witte of SAU93.The final regular session of Leadership Monadnock for this yearwill take place at the KSC Camp on September 8th, followed bya meeting in October focused on personal reflections from thisyear’s participants.2021 ProgramThe 2020/2021 Leadership Monadnock Program start date hasbeen postponed to early 2021. We will begin the applicationprocess in early November – after taking a thorough look at theprogram to be sure that we can deliver on our commitment to aICONICCHRISTMAS MARKETScomprehensive and educational experience for participants. OnSaturday, September 19, 2020, MHS will host the Walk for AnimalsReimagined - a virtual version of this important annual event.The Walk for Animals isa crowdfunding event. Inthe weeks leading up to theWalk itself, animal loversin the community askfamily, friends, coworkers,colleagues – everyone theyknow – to sponsor them (allmoney raised goes towards the care of the homeless animals of ourcommunity). On Saturday, September 19, the “day of ” event willinclude a “kick off ” video program at 9:00 am that will include funstories, a “Pancake Art” tutorial, a video montage of happy tails andMHS mission moments, and a few surprises. After that, walkers areencouraged to take their own favorite walk so that they can be safe,socially distant and still support the MHS community.
