Pastor’s Column August 7, 2022Dear Parish Family of St. Mary Magdalen,I thank all of those who assisted with the preparations for thefuneral visitation, Mass of Christian Burial and luncheon for BishopMorgan A. Casey. (On the right he is pictured at a parish celebrationhere on the occasion of his 50th anniversary to the priesthood in 2012.)Following his ordination to the priesthood in 1962, then newly ordainedFather Casey served three years as an assistant pastor at St. MaryMagdalen before accepting an assignment to serve the people of Bolivia, our Archdiocesan mission. There he joyfully and generously ministeredto the people as a priest, and then auxiliary bishop in the Archdiocese ofLa Paz, and then in 1988 Bishop of the Vicariate of Pando until hisretirement in 2013. May the Lord give this faithful servant eternalbeatitude in the Kingdom of Heaven! The Archdiocese continues to seek feedback from parishioners in the areas of socialoutreach and evangelization. At the end of the month, every pastor has been asked to submitthe responses of his parishioners to the following two open-ended questions:1. What do you think are the top priorities for evangelization in your parish that shouldbe invested in moving forward? (for example, adult faith formation, youth ministry, marriage and family life, young adult ministry )2. What do you think are the top priorities/opportunities for your parish to provide outreach in your community? (for example, food pantry, service projects, St. Vincent de PaulSociety )You are invited to answer these questions and to return your responses via email(amy.graham@stmmchurch.com) or drop your responses by the rectory office by Friday, Aug. 26. Next Sunday, August 14, we will have a Blessing of Students and Teachers at the 9:30 a.m.Mass. All students (pre-school through college) are invited to join us and receive the Lord’sblessing prior to the beginning of the new academic year. St. Mary Magdalen School will also hostan Open House that morning from 10:30 a.m. until 12:00 noon.Enjoy your final days of summer!God bless you,Please share your feedback on evangelization and social outreach for our parish. Drop in the collection basket or return to the rectory office.Attach additional pages if necessary.

Based on the results of the DiscipleshipMaker Index (DMI) that was offered inthe spring of this year, seeing an increasein young adult involvement is the toppriority of the archdiocese. In response, the All Things New Team, the Office ofYoung Adult Ministry and the YoungAdult Ministry Subcommittee havecreated a survey to gather feedback fromyoung adults. All young adults whethersingle, discerning, married, priest orreligious, with or without children, ages18-39 are encouraged to fill out thesurvey. Here they may anonymouslyshare their beliefs and interests, theirneeds, their experience in parishes, andtheir hopes for the future of the churchin St. Louis. Responses are due bySeptember 12th with a report beingpublished in October. To learn more visit the All Things Newwebsite : allthingsnew.archstl.org.

The Archdiocese's Safe Environment Program (SEP) requires all adult employees and volunteers who work with or nearminors and/or vulnerable adults to comply with the following policy requirements:1. Attend a Protecting God's Children live workshop and complete online updates every three years(there are in-person and online zoom options for this requirement)2. Understand and sign the Archdiocese's Code of Ethical Conduct for Clergy, Employees, andVolunteers Working in Ministry3. View two online training modules regarding abuse reporting and relevant topics from the Code ofEthical of Conduct;4. Complete a national criminal record check and agree to regular updates. If you are an adult in our parish and/or school who plans to volunteer or work with or near minors and/or vulnerableadults, you must complete the SEP and be approved by the Archdiocese OCYP before you can work with minors and/or vulnerable adults. High school age must sign a Youth Code of Conduct. Becoming approved is very easy to do andonly requires a small amount of your time, and most if not all of the requirements can be completed online. With school starting soon, this would be a great time foranyone who plans to be involvedin sports (as a coach, referee, scorekeeper, concession standworker, etc.) or at the dayschool or Family Faith program(room parent, class parties, fieldtrips, school events, recess orlunch duty, etc.) to completethese requirementsand beapproved to work with minors. Ifyou are part of one of our adultministries, and you have contactwith minors and/or vulnerableadults, you also must becompliant with the SEP. Ourschool and parish undergoes ayearlyauditwiththeArchdiocese to ensure that weare in compliance. If you have any questions aboutwhether you need to be incompliance with SEP or if youneed any help with registeringor have any other questions, please contact Amy am@stmmchurch.com
