Parents wishing to enroll theirchildren in NVVA must:Complete the online application and provide all required documents. All information on the applicationmust be true and correct. If misrepresentations are made or incorrect information is provided, theapplication will be deemed as not meeting the requirements of the school and may result in therevocation or halting of enrollment.Ensure student is only enrolled in NVVA and not concurrently enrolled in another school, public orprivate (unless prior permission is given for a junior college).Provide a learning coach who is able to read and understand the curriculum and instructional materialsprovided by NVVA and agrees to continuously supervise and engage in the academic support of thestudent during regular school hours.Have a working phone number, email account, and Internet access at all times while enrolled. Ensurethat student is in good standing with previous school district.Understand and agree that students will be enrolled in their age appropriate grade level, unlessprevious school has officially approved a retention or promotion.Understand and agree that the student’s educational program will be at the direction of the assignedNVVA teacher(s), lessons provided by the teacher(s) must be completed in the manner and within thetimeframes assigned.8 P a ge

NEVADA VIRTUAL ACADEMY PARENT/STUDENT HANDBOOK 2021-2022LOTTERY, WAITLIST AND ENROLLMENT CAPS As of July 2020, per Nevada Virtual Academy’s Charter Contract the maximum total enrollment at theCharter School shall not exceed 2,100 students (the “Maximum Enrollment Number”). In addition, theCharter School shall not enroll new students into the 12th grade after the first day of school for eachschool year. The number of students in each grade shall not exceed the 400450400400400275Lottery Policy:The Open Enrollment periods will be decided by Nevada Virtual Academy staff and board to receiveapplications for the following school year. Nevada Virtual Academy will announce and advertise theseopening and closing dates of the open enrollment window to the community in which we plan to operate.The following are key points regarding lottery process, waitlist procedures and enrollment of pupils from ourschool’s enrollment waiting list in accordance with NRS 388A.456:1. All applications are accepted during the Open Enrollment window, which must be at least 45 days;2. If the number of applications received during an enrollment window does not exceed the number ofspaces available, including by grade, all pupils who applied shall be enrolled in our school. (Nolottery is necessary)3. If the number of applications received during the window exceeds the number of spaces available,all enrollment applications received during the window will be subject to the lottery. The lottery willbe conducted immediately after the close of the enrollment window. (Lottery is required)4. Pupils whose applications are not selected by the lottery, if they wish, will be placed on anenrollment waiting list in the order determined by sufficiency date after the lottery selection.If applicable, a randomized lottery will be held after the Open Enrollment period. Families will be notified viaemail or phone of their child’s acceptance into Nevada Virtual Academy. Students and families will be given areasonable amount of time to accept or decline a seat. The Office for Civil Rights (OCR) enforces Federal statutesthat prohibit discrimination in programs and activities that receive Federal financial assistance from theDepartment of Education (ED). NEVADA VIRTUAL ACADEMY PARENT/STUDENT HANDBOOK 2021-2022Waitlist Policy:If Nevada Virtual Academy has reached capacity pursuant to NAC 386.353, it must place pupils who seekenrollment on an enrollment waiting list. Pupils who withdraw from the school after reaching capacity will bereplaced with new pupils from the school's waiting list.Nevada Virtual Academy will enroll students from the waitlist in the order enrollments are approved, up tothe enrollment cap (2,100 as of 2020). Once the enrollment cap has been met, a waitlist is formed and astudent’s order on the waitlist is based on the date and time they obtain sufficiency (completed allenrollment steps).RE-REGISTRATIONRe-registration is required for every enrolled student in order to let the school know if you will be returningfor the next school year.Re-registration process must be completed by the Legal Guardian/Learning Coach. You will receive anotification email once your school is open for Re-registration. The Learning Coach will see the Reregistration link in “My Info” when Re-registration is open for the next school year.Due to NVVA’s enrollment limitations and its Waitlist Policy, if students are withdrawn from NVVA, and areeligible to return, they will be put at the bottom of the Waitlist pending re-instatement.IMMUNIZATION REQUIREMENTSNRS 392.435 states that a child may not be enrolled in a public school within this state without a record ofimmunizations from a physician or health care provider showing that he or she has been immunizedaccording to required schedules. Students not in compliance with immunization requirements will beexcluded from school until the proper immunizations are received.If you do not have copies of your child’s immunization records, or your child needs immunizations in orderto comply with our District requirements, you will be referred to your physician or health care provider. If youdo not have a health care provider, the school’s Compliance Clerk can provide you with a list of communityclinics where you can obtain immunizations for your child.Upon enrollment, all students entering the NVVA must be in compliance with Nevada State Law, NRS392.435, which requires that students be immunized for Diptheria, Pertussis, Tetanus, Polio, Measles,Mumps, Rubella, Hepatitis A, Hepatitis B, Varicella and meningitis. Students who have had chickenpox willbe exempt from the requirement for Varicella immunization with health care provider’s verification that thestudent has had or has laboratory confirmation of the disease.As proof of compliance with the above immunization requirements, the parent, guardian, or student mustpresent to the school, upon enrollment, an immunization record stamped or signed by their physician orhealth care provider. Copies of records are acceptable. New students who are out of compliance with theimmunization law will be excluded from school attendance until the necessary immunizations are received.Based on a decision by the Nevada legislature and on recommendations from the Clark County HealthDistrict, students entering 7th grade will be required to show proof of immunization against tetanus,diphtheria and pertussis (TDAP) and Meningococcal (MCV4) prior to school enrollment.10 P a g e

NEVADA VIRTUAL ACADEMY PARENT/STUDENT HANDBOOK 2021-2022PARENT GUARDIAN RESPONSIBILITIESParent Communication PolicyParent-Teacher communication is a vital cornerstone to maintain the unique partnership between theschool and parents. Teachers are the parents’ first point of contact for academic questions. Respectful,productive communication is expected parent to teacher, and teacher to parent. The teacher is also animportant link of communication from the NVVA administrative office. Parent/Learning Coach phoneconversations with teachers or the office that include profanity and/or uncontrolled anger or shouting willnot be permitted. If parent behavior is disrespectful in this manner, the conversation will revert to writtencommunication only. Parents/Learning Coaches are expected to maintain responsiveness to email,newsletters, and phone communication with the teacher and the school. Professional, courteous two-waycommunication is always encouraged.Computer/Internet Back-up PlanParents must have a technology back-up plan. Computers and internet do crash or become non- functional.In the event this does occur, communication with your child’s teacher becomes critical. Parents should notifyK12 Virtual Schools LLC (Stride K12) customer support at (866) 512-2273 immediately if a school-loanedcomputer is malfunctioning. Please note that any equipment loaned to students is not guaranteed to be freefrom hardware failures. It is the responsibility of the parent to ensure an alternative arrangement forsubmitting and accessing the Online Middle School and High School Courses is made. Parents must have atechnology back-up plan. Students will not be excused from attendance for any technology problems. If astudent is unable to complete work or attend synchronous class sessions for any reason, contact thestudent’s teacher immediately.Computer: Any computer will work. Utilize one in the home, or use a family, neighbor, or friend’scomputer. Seek out the public library or other available agencies.To qualify for a loaner computer Families must fill out current Family Income Form and Nevada Virtual Academy’s (NVVA) request form Family income must qualify for Free or Reduced Lunch (FRL) AND provide proof of incomeNevada Virtual Academy does not provide internet. There are several programs available in ourcommunity to assist residents in bridging the digital divide.i. Low Income Family Internet Access and Computer Program (Connect2Compete program)ii.
