Dear Supplier,Congratulations on taking the first step in learning more about the Nadcapprogram! This brochure will provide you with a general understanding of theNadcap process as well as provide you with a list of contacts to get in touch withshould you have any further questions. As the Supplier Support Committee (SSC) Chairperson, I would like to take thisopportunity to introduce myself to you. President of F.M. Callahan and Son, Inc.,I have been actively involved in the Nadcap program since 2006 and I have heldthe position of SSC Chairperson since 2010. During this time, my involvementwith the Nadcap program has provided me the valuable opportunity to networkand build relationships with existing and potential Customers, as well as PRI Staffand other Suppliers. I have also seen the real influence that Suppliers have in theNadcap system - for example, I am a voting member of the Nadcap ManagementCouncil along with several other Suppliers and Primes.Suppliers are the key to the success of the aerospace industry and the Nadcapprogram. You play an important part in this process. We look forward to welcoming you and helping you to participate in the variousgroups – Task Groups, Nadcap Management Council and Supplier SupportCommittee.Thank you for your support.Sincerely,Eric JacklinP.S. Nadcap OverviewPrior to 1990, the major aerospace companies were auditing their own Suppliers for technical proficiencyin areas such as non-destructive testing, welding, and heat treating. This meant a significant workload forthe Primes, duplicate audits for the Suppliers, and auditors were often forced to become generalists toaccommodate the workload. In 1990, the National Aerospace and Defense Contractors Accreditation Program (NADCAP) wasestablished by key aerospace industry and US government representatives, administered by the not-forprofit Performance Review Institute (PRI). As Nadcap grew internationally, it changed from an acronym(NADCAP) to a brand name (Nadcap ).Today, Nadcap represents an unprecedented, cooperative industry effort to improve quality whilereducing costs throughout the aerospace and defense industries. It is an approach to conformityassessment that brings together technical experts from all over the world to establish requirements foraccreditation, approving Suppliers, and defining operational program requirements.Unlike traditional third-party assessment programs, Nadcap is an industry-managed program. Itpromotes a standardized approach to quality assurance and a reduction in redundant auditingthroughout the aerospace industry. Through Nadcap, industry has joined forces to develop a programthat: Establishes stringent industry-consensusstandards that satisfy the requirements ofall participantsReplaces routine Supplier auditing withone program that is approved through aconsensus decision-making process bymembers from the user communityConducts more in-depth, technicallysuperior, special-process auditsImproves Supplier quality throughout theindustry through stringent requirementsReduces costs through improvedstandardizationUses technically expert auditors to ensureprocess familiarityProvides more frequent audits for Primesand fewer audits for SuppliersPage 4Is it a quality systems audit?A Nadcap audit differs significantly from anaudit for general quality or for compliance toan ISO standard. With those types of audits, the following generic quality question maybe used regardless of the nature of the workbeing audited:Does the Supplier define the processesemployed for calibrating, inspection, measuring, and testing? To highlight the depth of a Nadcap audit, the following question would be used fornon-destructive testing only - each specialprocess would have its own specific question:Are the fluorescent penetrant inspection (FPI)dryer ovens calibrated every three months atmultiple points across the usable range?

Nadcap OverviewIn July 2010, Nadcap celebrated its 20thanniversary. A PRI web poll the previous monthshowed that 69% of respondents feel that Nadcapcontributes to the overall aerospace industrysafety. At the same time, a Nadcap accreditedSupplier survey reported that:83% of Suppliers report a qualityimprovement in the areas for whichthey are Nadcap accredited.Source: Supplier Survey 2009 60% of Suppliers feel that Nadcap accreditation has improved their standardization 41% of Suppliers link reduced rework rates to their Nadcap accreditation, while 44% haveexperienced reduced escape rates Over one-third (35%) feel that participating in the Nadcap program has helped to decrease their scrapratesMore than half of the respondents (54%) feel that Nadcap has assisted them to increase sales or gainnew businessNadcap Organization StructurePolicyPRI Board of DirectorsTacticalNadcap ManagementCouncilAdministrative StaffTask GroupsSupplier SupportCommitteeTechnicalPage 5

Nadcap Supplier Support Committee (SSC)The SSC exists to represent and be the voice of the Supplier community. The SSC Mission is “torepresent the Supplier community and work with the Nadcap Management Council (NMC) to enhancethe effectiveness and economical value of the Nadcap system for the mutual benefit of Suppliers andSubscribers”. The SSC works with the NMC on issues directly related to Suppliers. The Committee is made up of active Nadcap accredited Suppliers who are willing to help new Suppliersthrough the process, as well as assisting experienced Suppliers to establish, maintain and improve theiraccredited processes. The SSC is comprised of a Supplier Support Committee Leadership Team (SSC LT) which reviews andaddresses non-technical concerns raised by Suppliers. The SSC LT members include:Lloyd BarkerAlcoaStephane ChaumeilGalionEric JacklinF. M. The SupplierOrientation & Tutorial provides an overview ofthe Nadcap program, presented by a Supplier;the SSC meeting is a forum for discussion andreport-out on important issues for Suppliers;and there is also an informal Question &Answer session where you can meet PRI Staff.Check the meeting agenda for details. The SSC offers a Supplier Mentoring program, dedicated to assisting those Suppliers whoare new to the process and/or those needingassistance navigating the Nadcap system byproviding names and contact information ofexperienced Nadcap Suppliers. If you wouldlike to work with a Mentor, please send anemail to NadcapSSC@sae.org.If you would like to receive additional information regarding the SSC, please send an email toNadcapSSC@sae.org.Page 6
