Gamma Alpha BulletinMinutes May 20th, 2015Held at Rocky’s of Northville, the meeting,planned by our outstanding Birthday DinnerCommittee, was called to order at 5:45 by LynneElsesser.Lynne introduced two special guests,Kristen Beyer and Michelle White who are therecipients of this year’s Grant-in-Aid.Lynne acknowledged and thanked many memberswho attended and helped at the Kids for AfghanKids event, the Seedlings Bowl-a-thon and thosewho worked at and attended the recent StateConvention. Judi Fisher was the Convention Registrar, Carol Anderson was in charge of the Registration Desk where several members of GA helped,Nancy Geiger was a popular presenter, others werescribes, ticket sellers, worked with the auction,donated to the Green Basket put together by Amy,helped Jackie with her President’s Banquet duties,and participated in the Founders’ Day Presentation“horse race” that was planned, written and orchestrated by Jackie and Esther.The chapter also received several StateAwards: President’s, Attendance, The Rose, Outstanding Newsletter, and Exemplary Yearbook.Elizabeth Bunner was honored for Longevity andJudy Morante for Chapter Woman of Distinction.The Friend of Education Award was relayed to IanSmart by Jackie.Chapter members who are State Officers orCommittee Chairs at the State level include: Recording Secretary, Lynne Elsesser; Professional Affairs Committee, Jackie Smart; Scholarship/GrantsChair, Judi Fisher; Funding Our Purposes CoChairs, Fran Saenz and Carol Anderson. SeveralGamma Alpha members have volunteered to serveon numerous State Committees.Lynne reminded members that the ExecutiveBoard and Yearly Planning Meeting will be held ather house on June 17. All are asked to bring,email, text or phone in suggestions for programsfor the coming year and to mention what they planto bring.Donna Colaianne presented the Grant-inAid winners with their awards. Each spoke brieflyabout their plans for the award and Jackie presented them with DKG totes and chapter “goodies”.Judy Morante was recognized as the chapter Woman of Distinction. Judy updated us on activities with the Beverly House and thanked SarahDabiero and her husband for supplying us withbeach bags filled with shirts, flip-flops, and beachtowels for each girl. The chapter agreed to add 20for gift cards, sun screen and other summer goodies to each bag.Lisa Austin was recognized as the chapter’s newest retiree.Grace Morgan presented her plan to helpthe Beverly House girls make fleece quilts againthis summer. She will get specific details (re: dateand place) so members can come to assist her.Grace also asked about working on crochetednecklaces as a chapter so that they can be sold atupcoming State conventions and conferences.Cindy Dietz presented pins to those in attendance who were honored for 35 years’ membership in DKG. (Barbara Broadley, Grace Morganand Fran Saenz) (absent: Sandy Becher, DebbieErvin and Esther Loskowske who will receive theirpins at a later date)Pam Husson won the 50/50 raffle worth 40. All present including our guests received aspecial Birthday Present from Lynne.Part of the Birthday Committee, JackieSmart and Helen Mate, led us in a Re-Dedicationceremony honoring Gamma Alpha’s 36th birthdayfollowed by dessert crafted by Helen.The meeting adjourned at 7:00.Respectfully Submitted: Carol A.
