Photo by Mike WallaceFirst Performances of MCCPA’s Christmas Carol Sunday –December 2nd at 2:00 p.m., Monday, December 3rd at 7:00 p.m.A community theater entices performers fordifferent reasons. They come, learn, teach others, and often they move on, especially the youngerones when they reach college age. But the circleof love for the theater lives on. Such is true for theMontgomery County Council for the PerformingArts (MCCPA.)DeLainey Brown, a senior at Mt. Ida High, began performing for MCCPA when she was eight. She plans a degree in musical performance; her instrument is the oboe, which she plays in ChristmasCarol, but she has been taking piano and voicelessons from Roxie Collingwood for the past ficeyears, and she loves singing and performing, especially in musicals. Her favorite musicals are Fiddler on the Roofand playing Wendy in Peter Pan. In ChristmasCarol she plays several roles and also is a stagehand –props, prompting, and making sure performers are in place when it is time to be on stage.“MCCPA has broadened my life and helped megrow as a person and be more comfortable withmyself.” She also helped to plan and make setsand has gently guided new participants to improvetheir “on stage performance.”Rita Fechtel and husband moved to Pencil Blufffrom Dallas. Wanting to become involved in thecommunity, she invited a neighbor child to auditions for MCCPA’s It’s a Wonderful Life. Sheended up getting a part as the policeman and today also works with costuming and props in eachproduction. Rita has a unique talent of being ableto portray a man realistically, and this year plays Mr. Fezziwig, who hiredEbenezer in one of his first jobs.Pyper Owen’s first MCCPA play was when she was seven years old - Howthe Grinch Stole Christmas. She has been in most productions since then. She is now a freshman in college, taking online courses, and MCCPA is fortunate to have her services this year. She says the theater is a second home;her friendships have taught her to understand body language, which will helpin her career. “I now know to put on a different persona when I feel uncomfortable.” She portrays the Ghost of the Future. Pyper is also a role model forsome of the first-time actors.Susan Hughes’ brother is involved with the theater in Hot Springs. Hissharing his love of acting and an invitation from MCCPA member EdwennaRowland, her step-daughter, led Susan to the Roosevelt Theater. This is herthird production and she is indeed a “Raucous Guest.” Lynn Thew portraysthe Ghost of Christmas Present. She likes to perform, work behind stage, take photos and help with publicity; reading about auditions for The Soundof Music enticed her to try out the first time.Teddy and Sean Green and their parents, Cilla and Jay, have been withMCCPA since 2012. Cilla is music director and prompter, while Jay hasbeen in charge of lights since 2013. Teddy portrayed the Russian dancerand singer in Fiddler; this year the boys portray Scrooge in his childhoodand young adult years. The whole family sing and play instruments and act.MCCPA is truly a “family affair.”The Christmas Carol is a production for the whole family. RooseveltTheater is located at 338 Whittington St. in Mt. Ida. The three 2:00 perfor- Ghost of Christmas Past, is portrayed by Laura Elder, who hasmances are on December 2nd, 8th, and 9th. Page 2 Glenwood Herald Thursday, November 29, 2018Beyond Crazy in AmericaBy Glenn MolletteThe horrendous shooting of12 innocent people at a country music bar in Twin OaksCalifornia reminds us that noplace in America is safe. If wethought there were some safesacred zones in our countrythen we should ask the peoplein Pittsburgh. In particular, ask the people of the Tree ofLife Synagogue in the community of Squirrel Hill whereeleven people were murderedand six others wounded during a sacred hour of worship.Last week in MartinCounty, Kentucky, a womanshot her sleeping husband inhis bed in the early morninghours. She then called a friendand told her that she was going to end her own life aswell. She told her friend abouttheir life stresses, consistingprimarily of health issues andmedical bills, and that shefelt they could not overcomethem. By the time her friendand others got there she wasdead along with her husband. What makes a Marine Vet-eran decide to exterminatethe lives of innocent peopleout for a night of dancingand fun in California? Whatgets into the mind of a manthat causes him to wreak evilin the midst of a sacred placeof worship? What happensto a woman who becomes sodown that she sees the onlyway out of her misery is murder and suicide? Why did shefeel like she had the right totake her husband's life?In general, Americanshave gone crazy in recentFirst oFF i want to thank everyonefor supporting and voting for me. I could not havegone as far as I did without your help. Since Istarted this race at the first of the year I have gottenacquainted with a lot of people. Looking back overthese past few months I can honestly say I have gainedmore than you would ever know. I have gained someknew friends and gotten reacquainted with some oldfriends. That can not be taken away from me andmy family. We have grown more over the past fewmonths and that we will cherish forever.I just wanted to let everyone know that even thoughI didn’t win the election I ran a hard and honest campaign because in my opinionthe sheriff that you the people vote on should be honest. I Thought the sheriff ofthis county should be trustworthy because if the sheriff isn’t trustworthy how can Iexpect my team to be that way.Since November 6, I have been hearing some rumors that was going around frommany different people that was spread by someone I thought was my friend. WhenI started my campaign I said I would run a honest campaign and I believe that tohave a successful career and be able to do everything that I wanted to do I had tobe honest, have integrity, and Unite all of the police forces (city, state, and county)together, We the police force of PIKE county have to have each others back becausewhen we put these uniforms on we become family. If we can’t count on each otherand go on calls when we are called than how can we say BLUE lives matter.I was raised by a preacher and taught that we are all family according to GOD andthe BIBLE. I was taught to be respectful and to be honest. That is what I tried toput into my campaign. One of my biggest plans was to earn your trust and I guess I failed at that. If I hadearned your trust you the people would have felt you could have called or messaged.I had hoped that if anyone had any questions about what my plans where if I wonthat they would call me or messaged me that’s why I put my phone number on thearticles in the paper and even on face book. It hurts me to know that the people ofPike County didn’t think they could ask me a question, but it hurt even more to thinkthat someone I thought was a friend would go behind my back to spread lies just toget the votes. Whatever happens from here on out just remember its your votes thatputs people in the office.I am asking everyone that knows me and voted for me to please go out one moretime and this time VOTE FOR ROGER “BIMBO.” FLEMENSThank you,James Dwight CogburnPaid political adR VOTEROGER “BIMBO” FLEMENSFOR PIKE COUNTY SHERIFFI’m Roger “Bimbo” Flemens and I would like yourvote for Pike County Sheriff!I understand this will be the last paper we get, so Iwanted to clarify a few things today.Number one, you have all heard that I have no qualifications to manage the sheriff’s office, and that I also haveno law enforcement experience. The fact of the matter is that I was a Justice of thePeace for 4 years in Pike County, and worked closely withJohnny Plyler and Jim O’Neal on the Quorum Court! Ilearned valuable lessons from them both, and withouta doubt, they are both the most knowledgeable men onbudgets and finances that county has ever had . takingnothing away from any other members of course!I have owned a business or businesses in Pike Countysince I was 21 years old, and have had different people inthe county working for me every time.I was also a commissioned deputy in the early 80’suntil Pep Glenn became sheriff, and then was dropped toa reserve deputy.I understand there are no certificates, but a retiredCaptain informed me that he held my file in his handin 2010. I’m not certain exactly my file is there, but thelast three people that I have asked who had access to thecabinet at one time have told me my file was gone, andthey had looked for it, so I am led to believe it was lostsomehow.I want everyone to know that I have no intention offiring every officer or worker there, as had been told. Thatwould be sheer stupidity.I will work closely with the community to keep theminformed to the everyday life in the sheriff’s department, and every citizen has the opportunity to come in andvoice their problems or concerns! My wish is that the department becomes a more moral, and ethical place than now, and blends once more withthe county’s citizens! As for other things, I want to stop as many drugs, promote tourism, return positivity to our young whendealing with law enforcement, set up, or make aware thatveterans are helped when and if they need it, have moresafety programs for the kids on a regular basis, coordinateour ambulance service and police departments, so everyone can work together for the good of the county, andset up programs for the kids so they will know they haveother choices, other than drugs or activities that may ruintheir lives. There will be more patrols on the back roadswhere 90% of the theft and drug transactions take place.I would like for the people to ask questions and talkelections. If you want to alienate your friends on social media, then take a stand on eitherside of the political spectrum.State your opinion about howmuch you love the Democratsor the Republicans and soonyou'll have fewer friends whoprobably weren't your friendsto begin with anyway.Americans have beenmarching for a long time. Dr.Martin Luther King taught ushow to peacefully protest. Hedemonstrated how to marchand stand up for what is right. He had class. He wasn't perfectbut he was a man to whom weneed to look for how to conduct ourselves when it comesto going against injustices. Most Americans just wantthe simple things of life. Wewant to live out our lives inpeace. We would like to workour jobs, raise our families, save a little money and occasionally be able to buy acar and pay for a home. MostAmericans dream of retirement and doing things likegardening, fishing, traveling alittle or just having a life freeof the big hassles, at least forawhile. We would like to beable to go the doctor when weneed to and not feel that wewill have to second mortgageour house to pay the bill.Overall, today's Americans don't feel that anythingis simple anymore. Too muchon television is no longer entertaining but is filled with intensity; murder stories that aresadly true, gruesome violenceand more bad news. Cablenews and other networks havea "side" they have taken and allof their reporting is constantlypushing their side. Pushingtheir side unfortunately meansbashing every element of theother side with anything that isdirty, negative or just an outright lie. Thus, most Americans are sick of elections andelection commercials. We aresick of robo calls and emailboxes stuffed with financialsolicitations to support candidates. Who wants to see anational news reporter wrestling a young intern for a microphone in the press room ofthe White House and totallydisrespecting the President ofthe United States? We know the next twoyears will be nothing nowbut campaigning for the nextPresidential election togetherwith all the rancor, hostility, violence, uncivil marches andcrude rhetoric that will accompany the upcoming election. Are we beyond crazy inAmerica? Look to a supposedly safe dancing countrymusic bar in Twin Oaks California. Look to a quaint neighborhood and a respectablesynagogue in Pittsburgh, or aremote trailer in Martin County, Kentucky and we have toacknowledge that there is serious mental illness across ourcountry. Look at how peopleconduct themselves today onsocial media. It's like there areno restraints on language ordemeanor barriers toward others. The highways are filledwith people who are ready torun you off the road or at leastshow you their middle finger.Sadly, all you have to doto experience America's craziness is to go to a publicschool, house of worship, amusic joint or sleep in yourown bed. Most often youdon't have to do anything atall because evil and mentalillness can show up right inyour face. What can we do? Live cautiously. Know where the exitdoors are everywhere you go.We must utilize security fromchurches to bars to schoolsand our homes. Every American should be required to passa screening test at the localhealth department before being issued a permit to own afirearm. People with PTSDproblems and other peoplewho have already been verified as having mental issuesdon't need to be walking thestreets with guns. Most Americans just wanta safe, sane and peacefullife. However, overall we'rebeyond crazy in this countryand sadly we are way beyondtrying to really do somethingto resolve and protect ourpeople. The parents of Chance Crews and Sydney McCarverwould like to write all friends and family to join us onthis special day. Chance and Sydney will be joined inmatrimony on December 1st at 4:00 p.m. at Amity Second Baptist Church. All are welcome to come and enjoythis blessed day with us.GlenwoodHealth and Rehabto people in the Glenwood area about the people runningin this race and just realize that each of us has their supporters and they all have different opinions. It would begood if people look at what I have as a positive outlook forour county and not the negative things a lot have read onthe wonderful world of Facebook! My intent is strictly thethings stated, with no equivocation or reservations, whatsoever. I also would like to have a reserve deputy forcewith the ability to help out or backup our regular officersas needed. I am running as a Republican, because I do notagree with the Democrat way of gun control, abortion, open borders, and I personally think that when I standbefore God, that if I have ever compromised any of these,I will be judged harshly. I have never condoned abortion, nor paid for anyone to have one, nor have I ever been anadvocate for any type of gun control, and definitely do notagree with an open door policy when our veterans needhelp every day, and the money and programs are used tohelp illegals! This county needs to get back to people helping basics and stop being an all for me place and makethis a better place to live! With that being said, I leave youall with the chance to get out in the community and askquestions of the people who will be affected by this vote. Also Delight will not be left out of this!I also will never condone an officer who refuses toback up his partners for any reason. My policy will bequite different that it is now. Talking out of the sheriff‘soffice about people or sensitive matters will no be tolerated and will be dealt with quickly. I have endorsementsof former Sheriff Benny Simmons of Sevier County, andSheriff Danny Martin of Nevada County. With all this I ask you to look beyond the mud anddig deep into the people slinging and find out what theyhave to gain, and then make your decision. I will makeyou the best sheriff that I possibly can and give you thebest protection and service that is in my power so to do!I can only say if you want this county to change, I will dothat for you -- legally, honestly, and professionally! If not, then you have the choice to keep what you have. I now askyou all to consider this before you vote.Thank you and may God bless you one and all, andPike County, no matter who wins this.Roger “Bimbo” Flemens***EARLY VOTING THROUGH DECEMBER 3***RUNOFF ELECTION DAY DECEMBER 4POLITICAL ADVERTISEMENT PAID FOR BY PIKE COUNTY REPUBLICAN PARTYcordially invites youto join us tocelebratethe addition of ournew observation unitonDecember 2nd, 2018from 1:00 p.m.until 3:00 p.m615 Mountain View Rd.Glenwood, AR
