For the completeattendance policy, please go to the “School Board Policies and Procedures” link on theWest Valley School District website, http://www.wvsd208.org. Regular school attendanceis defined as no more than nine (9) absences, excused and/or unexcused, per semester inacademic classes (18 during school year). Parents and students should be aware thatwhen a student misses more than 9 days in a class, excused or not, it is difficult for thestudent to earn a passing score in the class.A student’s presence in the classroom on a regular basis is necessary to ensurethat the student derives maximum benefit from the class, including the opportunityfor interaction with teachers and peers.EXCESSIVE ABSENCES MAY RESULT IN WITHDRAWAL FROM WEST VALLEYSCHOOL DISTRICT.REPORTING ABSENCESParents are responsible for reporting all absences resulting from illness, injury or familyemergencies. When a student is absent from school, a parent is expected to call theschool informing the school about the absence. Calls should be made to the attendancesecretary at 972-5800 after 7:00 a.m. the day of the absence. If a parent cannot call, weask that the parent or guardian send a note with the student on the day of the student’sreturn to school.PRE-ARRANGED ABSENCESWhen a student anticipates leaving town for a number of days, she/he must follow the prearranged absence procedure:1.
